Kyoto Crystal Hotel Ⅲ

Three of my kids (all adults) and I stayed at Kyoto Crystal Hotel III for four nights in early April 2023. Kyoto Crystal Hotel III’s location is very good. It is a short and pleasant walk to Kyoto Station, which is the heart of transportation in Kyoto, whether you are taking the bus or train. On the way to and from Kyoto Station, you will pass Lawson’s Convenience Store, where you can buy your supplies such as water and toiletries (and even ice cream to much on!). And right beside Lawson, before reaching Kyoto Station, is Kyoto Avanti Mall, with many excellent eating places. Since there were four of us, we stayed in two rooms (two people per room). Each hotel room is on the small side, as expected with most Japanese hotels, with two beds per hotel room. The surprising thing is that only one pillow per bed was provided, so we had to make do. I did appreciate that my request -- that our two hotel rooms be beside each other -- was granted, since we were given hotel rooms right beside each other on the same floor. The bathroom of each hotel room is likewise small, but well-laid out so everything fits. The hotel room and bathroom are well-maintained and clean. The front desk staff are all very cordial and always eager to help, especially with directions.
Travelodge Kyoto Shijo Kawaramachi

Location was alright - less than 5 minutes walk to the nearest metro station, and about 15min walk from Kyoto Station. Service was excellent - we were caught in the rain, staff provided us with towels, and umbrellas when we were about to go out. Amenities are also provided at the lobby, appreciate this aspect of sustainability. Rooms were also cleaned everyday. Price was great, definitely value for money. Would visit again when in Kyoto!

A quiet spot in Kyoto within walking distance from the train station, shops and restaurants, this ryokan is a gem. The rooms are beautifully and simply decorated and include a coffee and tea maker. Breakfast was included in my rate and I had the vegetarian option but a standard western or Japanese breakfast is also available. The beds are low to the floor, extremely comfortable with great quality linens. The bathroom was clean and bright with a separate toilet. There is a deep, cypress soaking tub and a shower in another separate space. My room was in the north building and faced the street but had opaque screens to let in light while maintaining privacy. I will go back to Takasegawa Bettei!
Suiran, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Kyoto

My wife’s birthday trip at the Suiran was a dream come true. With successive Covid cancellations, it took us four years of planning, but it was worth the wait. With their traditional Japanese structures and landscaping, the Suiran was our oasis of calm during Kyoto’s busiest season (cherry blossoms). We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and the best breakfasts of our lives in their dining room, and blissful riverside happy hours in their cafe. Our comfortable room had all the amenities, and a soothing minimalist aesthetic. The Suiran staff is spectacular: thoughtful, gracious, attentive. Through our years of planning and days of enjoyment, we were guided by Suiran’s chief concierge, Hiromi Maruyama. Her kindness, patience, and expertise added greatly to the success of our time in Kyoto. Her suggestions and insights, and good spirits were a beacon shining our way. We are indebted to her for her efforts on our behalf.
