It is not the easiest task to choose a hotel on the other side of the world from your cozy surroundings back home. Of course you check Tripadvisor and a few other sites before finally making your decision. But still, you never know. If you by chance are going to La Paz in Bolivia, trust me on this: Stay at Hotel Sagarnaga. You will not be disappointed. Good prices, really nice staff, clean comfortable rooms and perfectly situated in the city. Most staff speak really good English and they understand service. Breakfast is simple but good enough for you to make it until lunch. Also, should you have any desires to climb a mountain, ride a bike, go on a bustour to Lake Titicaca etc you have several agencies of which Jiwaki would be one I would recommend just 10-50 meters from the hotel. And yes, La Paz is situated at 3700 masl and you might, no, you should be very careful upon arrival and give it at least 48 hrs of rest before you attempt any kind of activity. Hence Hotel Sagarnaga: Within 60 seconds distance you have ATM´s, Money exchange, Good restaurants, small stores to buy your water to have in the hotel room while you rest and try to get oxygen into your lungs. We had the pleasure of spending three nights at hotel Qantu in La Paz. Hotel staff was nice and we could arrange with them on email to secure pickup from the airport. Arriving at the hotel in the middle of the night we were greeted by a very professional and nice staff member. Room was fairly good size and clean. indeed the whole hotel felt clean and as something the staff cared about. Breakfast was ok and here again friendly staff made good omelets for us suggested by themselves. However the really big difference was Lili in the reception. She was very very helpful and helped organising our whole journey on from La Paz. Even booked busses, sightseeing, taxis and all we needed. No doubt about my next stay in La Paz also will be at Qantu.

I stayed as part of a group tour. The location seems to be near some of the tourist attractions- souvenir shops, witches market, etc. However, you may get stuck in a room like mine with no windows. There actually is one window in my bathroom which opens to a stairwell. Earlier in the day I couldn’t tell if someone was taking a shower nearby or if it was raining. I have a king size bed. There is a radiator in the room- no wall thermostat. None of the English channels on the TV work. There is one elevator in the hotel. The towels smell like chemicals. The WiFi works well in the room. There is tea available in the front lobby. There are decent reading lights in the room. There is a secure safe in the room. Front desk staff speak English. There are shelves to store clothes but no place to hang anything. Conditioner and lotion are not provided. The hair dryer is underpowered for any type of styling. You can definitely hear the traffic noise and people talking in the lobby from my room. I would not stay here again.

Hôtel bien situado pero muy malo . Hay escaleras para ir de la calle a la recepción y luego más escaleras para bajar a los ascensores. Muy engorroso para una persona con maletas pesadas o para minusválidos. Decoración pasada de moda y vieja . Este hotel necesita una remodelación total . Personal amable , hacen lo que pueden , pero en general el hotel es una gran decepción.

On the first night I was in a 4 bed dorm and I was woken up at 4 am by the receptionist and a security guard. They got me out of bed and made me show my room key and guest card, as apparently in their system the room should be empty. Well, I was in the right room and I was taken out of bed without any need, apparently the receptionist registered me on room 307 and gave me the keys of 407. It was very unpleasant and I had a terrible sleep after that. I wonder why they couldn't wait until later to settle the matter. So I went to the reception to negotiate some kind of compensation for the unpleasant situation they had put me through, I suggested a complimentary breakfast (it costs about U$4.50). But they basically replied that they didn't care about the situation and that I could complain wherever I wanted. Selina is not a cheap hostel, so you're expected to at least be treated well, which was not the case. Before this happened, I would easily give it five stars, as it is comfortable, safe, clean. But the way they treated me wasn't fair, they treated me like I was doing something wrong, when in fact it was their mistake. Second night the private room smelled cigarette, I also let reception know but nothing was made. There were some dishes from a previous guest at the door and they stayed there until my check out. Both nights were very noisy. During check out I had to request the refund of the 35bs key deposit they charged me when checking in, but they said it wasn't registered on the system (again another ”system” mistake), so I had to insist I paid, very uncomfortable situation once more. It seems Selina La Paz needs to improve its management. The whole situation will definitely make me think twice about staying at another Selina.

This is an excellent hotel, just outside the main centre of La Paz. The rooms are of an excellent quality, with a good sized main room and bathroom. The hotel accommodated my early arrival into La Paz and allowed me to check into my room at 8am for a reasonable price. The breakfast were varied in content but always of a very good standard, with a spectacular view of La Paz from the main restaurant on the 8th floor. The laundry service the hotel offers was also useful after 2 weeks of travelling! The only thing that would have been useful is tea/coffee facilities and maybe a fridge in the room, but such services are provided by main reception. I would definitely stay at this hotel again the next time I am in La Paz.

Hotel Presidente, at Potosi 920, La Paz, BO; is very centrally located. It is walking distance to Witches market, and major squares like Plaza Mayor and Plaza Murrillo; and the Art Museum. The tariff was very affordable, and on par with mid-range hotels in major cities in other parts of the world. We arrived early morning in la Paz, the hotel front desk checked us in; and also allowed us to have the buffet breakfast. The breakfast was decent; we are used to much more elaborate fare in Singapore/Bangkok and other cities in Asia. The hotel bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was modern and the hot water was instantly available; unlike other hotel reviews I read online. The view from the room is more beautiful at night as it shows the lit up hills. The front desk staff and the people at the door were very helpful with arranging taxis for us.

Rooftop Bolivia is a great place to start exploring the city, nice people at the desk and the building is quite impressive from the inside, charming furniture with a touch of modern elements...totally recommendable. They offer a good breakfast and several dishes for lunch and dinner. Come here and find out😉
