Hotel berhampiran Tunstall Square Shopping Centre, Melbourne

My wife and I operate a small coach tour company, and have done so for the last 28 years. We offer residents of Sydney, the Central Coast, the Southern Highlands, Canberra and Queanbeyan, the opportunity to travel on a variety of tours, ranging from four days to ten days in length, to different areas in Eastern Australia. Last week, a group of our passengers from these areas travelled on a seven-day tour to Victoria. During the tour, our passengers stayed for four nights at the Novotel Melbourne Preston. We certainly have no complaints or regrets about using this Hotel for our group’s stay! When I first contacted the Hotel in September 2023, about the possibility of using it for my tour group’s accommodation for this tour, my enquiry was treated with genuine enthusiasm. I was put through to the Sales Manager, Ms Michele Kerrigan. Michele was amazing to deal with. After a steady stream of telephone conversations and emails during the next few days, the accommodation was booked, and the menus for all the dinners during this stay were locked in. At some hotels we’ve used over the years, this process can take weeks, and it can be quite a frustrating experience. At this Hotel, it was the exact opposite. So, a huge ‘thank you’ to Michele, for making this all so easy for us as tour organisers! After all the arrangements we finalised, and the booking was locked in, Michele passed on our booking to the Sales Coordinator, Annalise Dimase. Once again, Annalise was an absolute delight to work with! Between the finalisation of the booking, and the date of the group’s arrival, we spoke many, many times on the phone, and exchanged many, many emails. In all my dealings with Annalise, she was professional, personable, helpful, patient, and attentive. On a few occasions, when Annalise was unavailable, I was transferred to Nada, another member of the Sales Team. Again, Nada was wonderful to work with. When our tour group arrived at the hotel, Michele, Nada, and Annalise were all there to greet the passengers. They were very impressed by the warm and friendly welcome offered to them by this team! Once inside the Hotel, this level of service was experienced in all sections. The reception staff, the housekeeping staff, the restaurant staff, the chef and kitchen staff were all friendly, welcoming, obliging, and helpful. We would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel to any tour groups requiring accommodation in Melbourne. Judging by our experience, it would be difficult to surpass the level of attentiveness and friendliness offered by the management team and staff, the quality of service, the degree of comfort, and the attention to detail our group received during their stay. Very elegant and comfortable suite, with many elements of home in a great location with access to the trains and tram. The suite was quiet and secure despite being in the middle of the city. The bed was comfortable, mattress and pillows supportive and comfortable. Towel service was provided on the weekend. W/D was efficient and handy to have en suite. Having a table for four with silverware and dishes was a bonus for takeaway meals. The location was also great for dining out and bringing in.

As a former hotel worker and frequent traveler I was very impressed with The StandardX Hotel and Staff. Friendly, approachable staff who were always smiling and helpful. Certainly has a much more youthful vibe compared to your normal Hilton, Hyatt etc. I was apparently upgraded to Room 501 for a three night stay. A hand written note with some delicious pastries on arrival in room. The rooms are nicely styled, a bit different and a little tight. A room to sleep in, certainly not one to spend the day working from as there is no couch, or table to work from. The bed was amazingly comfortable. I'd go so far as to say the most comfy hotel bed i've slept in. If you like fresh air, you could also open the window for some brisk Melb air. Very clean and quiet rooms. The glass walled (frosted) bathroom might concern some, although I had no issue as it was just me. The rooftop terrace is fantastic although there is no bar or cafe, you'll need to bring your food, drink or laptop up here to work with an amazing view. Hotel is located close to trams and the nightlife of Fitzroy around the corner. Unfortunately I did not try the restaurant so can't comment on the food there but the menu looked delicious. Looking forward to returning.

Asrama anak perempuan saya betul-betul bertentangan Walaupun ia adalah kawasan yang tidak bebas, anda boleh menaiki trem percuma hanya 400 meter dari perpustakaan Ia sangat mudah untuk menaiki trem atau berjalan ke mana-mana setiap hari. Saya menginap selama tiga malam dan menukar kepada dua jenis bilik. Bilik ini mempunyai dapur dan ruang tamu, sangat dekat dengan Pasar Wei Ma! Kelemahannya ialah tong sampah dan tuala mandi tidak ditukar sejak beberapa hari ini, tetapi kami tidak peduli, kami hanya boleh mengeringkan tuala mandi di balkoni .

The staff were not following COVID protocols. None wore masks. Day manager actually spoke to us with mask on chin and AROUND the safety barrier. One pen used for everything by everyone. Night manager & staff as well as other guests were all maskless. We were not asked to show proof of our vaccination status. Inspired ZERO confidence that they were actually sanitising anything. My partner also felt unsafe as there were a lot of people loitering around the building. The room was clean and tidy. Located excellently for the event we were attending. Hot water worked, loved the choice of flooring. That was all. The room offered only one single bar of soap. No shower gel, shampoo or any extra toiletries as is expected from even the most basic accomodation you can stay in anywhere else. I have stayed in youth hostels in the outback and even they offered more than a tiny bar of soap. There was no indications of any extra services offered or being available. There were no extra pillows or blankets available in the room. One very flat pillow per person and a thin doona only. The pillows were so low that I could not sleep on it and when I asked for another pillow from the night manager I was met with rudeness. He finally gave me an old, dirty pillow with no pillow case (see photos). When I asked for a pillow case he acted like I was being ridiculous. We slept badly as the bed was very hard. Actually went home and slept as we were so tired from the uncomfortable bed. Upon checkout we got stuck in the lift as the door to the G floor would not open. We finally called for help using the phone but even though the front desk manager answered and said he would be with us immediately he was not. We finally left by going back to our floor and using the fire escape to exit via the basement parking. He then told us he couldn’t hear what we were saying on the phone so basically ignored us, and then gave some rubbish excuse about the one elevator being an old one that was not for guests. Basically if we had not exited the way we did we would have been stuck in the elevator for hours being ignored. There was no signage indicating anywhere that one of the two lifts was not for guests, and if the lift was not for guests you would think it would be clearly marked so.

Perfect location and nice staff. But that’s all. The room was completely different from the photos. There’s nothing like curtains to block the water from shower and the water just splashing around the toilet and the whole floor. If we knew this, we wouldn’t have booked this hotel. Location is perfect so I would recommend this hotel to people who don’t really care about shower.. Other rooms could be different and better than our room…

Very convenient, close to Victoria Market. Walkable to South cross station. Many shops nearby, 7/11 just down the street. There’s a Sarawak and Indonesia restaurant nearby within walking distance. Room was neat, but without any much necessities like toothbrush comb etc. Friendly staffs.. quiet place.

Maybe it was once nice but it has got so many issues with it and I highly recommend you look elsewhere. We stayed in a two bedroom one bathroom apartment and it was honestly the worst hotel we have ever stayed at. We were assigned room 2201W. Here are the issues we encountered during our four night stay. 1. Power outage on our last day with no back up generator for the entire building (both east and west). It’s 31 degrees outside so opening the doors is also not a smart option. Started at 9am and is already over 4 hours. As I have breastmilk in the fridge for my 3 month old, this is my worst nightmare. 2. Safe battery is low. Why hasn’t anyone changed it??? 3. Bathroom shower head plate is broken so water sprays at you un-uniformly and overall unpleasant. 4. Water drips out of the shower but the fall doesn’t go to the drain so the floor remains flooded. 5. Due to point number 4, the bottom of the bathroom door has expanded and the door does NOT close. It is so jammed that it feels like you’d break the handle trying to jam the latch in and back out. 6. Stupid placement of the microwave. You can’t open the microwave door more than 45 degrees. How on earth do you put a dinner plate in there??? 7. Missing cups/ mugs and glasses. 3 mugs, two short glasses, two tall glasses and odd numbered cutlery. Just fix it, for crying out loud! The top rack of the dishwasher was also broken making it difficult to pull in and out the middle rack. 8. Upon check in, we didn’t have any cleaning supplies such as dishwashing tablets, hand washing liquid for dishes or laundry powder. 9. Rooms are so tiny. Don’t expect to be able to open your medium sized luggages inside your room. We kept our two in the so called living space instead. 10. Generally upkeep is not there. Walls have visible stains and grime from previous guests. The whole place just overall felt really really filthy. 11. Not family friendly either. There is a flight of stairs at the entry and no ramp. There is a wheelchair elevator to the side which takes way too long to operate with a crying baby. If you’re on your own, be prepared to lift you pram up or hope a Good Samaritan can help you because the hotel staff won’t. Clearly there are issues within management and housekeeping. I sense laziness and lack of hospitality understanding is to blame. STAY ELSEWHERE!!!

The place was comfortable but it does not clean the whole apartment during our stay.. you have to remind them if we can. Our sink was full of dirty cups and has to do ourselves when we return late. Apart from that, we have a pleasant stay..the staffs are very helpful.

Location is good if you need to go to the Convention centre since it’s only about a 6 or 7 minute flat surface walk. The young woman from Michigan at concierge was SUPER helpful and friendly. And the check in staff were kind, knowledgeable and friendly. Room was a good size, king bed was comfortable, lots of pillows and a down duvet made the bed nice to get into. The window views weren’t anything special as we saw some buildings and a freeway. Housekeeping did a great job with taking garbage away, replacing towels and always made sure we had water, cream and coffee/espresso. Room came with toothbrushes, mouthwash, qtips, shower gel, bar soap, shampoo and conditioner. There was a hairdryer, fridge and a shower with a rain type shower head. Front desk has adapters available if you didn’t bring one. Over all it was a good stay Not a lot of stores (grocery or convenience) in the area but it was super easy to get an Uber.
