We have been coming to Italy for nearly 30 years and stayed in many different hotels and villas and this place is our new favourite. The staff are wonderfully friendly and helpful. The grounds are beautifully maintained and rooms are lovely. The building is several hundred years old so some aspects of the decor would be described as “rustic” and if you want polished marble and gold taps then go somewhere else but you will be missing a real treat. We stayed in the suite “il Balcone” which faces east so you get morning sun and avoid the heat of the afternoon. This is the only room in the main building with a balcony. There is very effective air conditioning in the bedroom and lounge. The room has minibar, kettle, iron and hairdryer. The restaurant has indoor and outdoor tables. Service was great. Shout out to Roberto. The menu is a bit limited and as we stayed 8 nights we would have appreciated more variety but everywhere we have stayed always has a limited menu. The pool area is lovely being in an olive grove so there is plenty of natural shade as well as open space immediately around the pool. Montepulciano is about 3 miles up the hill. One could walk it but if you do, be aware that from the gate to the town it’s another mile to the top of the town. For us, Cicolina offers the right balance between “rustic” and “posh” in the sense that the building and gardens are traditional while the service is what you might expect from high end city establishment - but with a genuine smile. As you’d expect, Cicolina is not cheap but it’s definitely value for money and we thoroughly recommend. We will be returning.
