I booked into the Marriott for 3 days over New Year's Eve. Based on the hotel star rating and the price that I had to pay for that period of time, I was expecting a certain level of service standards. Unfortunately, what I found was that the housekeeping of the hotel seemed to be dysfunctional during that period. I requested at the front desk on New Year's Day at 1pm to have my room made up as we slept in late for the day since we were out late the night before. The front desk confirmed that they would get it sorted. However, when I got back in the evening, no housekeeping was done for my room. Additionally, the general cleanliness level of my hotel level was lacking on the day. At the general lift area, I saw some Cheerios cereal spilled by kids the night before. It was still there on New Year's day evening and not cleaned up. As for the dining options, the hotel mandated a $30 fee that we could convert into food spend. We decided to spend it on the Level 8 Broadway Lounge. We found the food quality inconsistent. On the first day, I ordered a decaf coffee. It was good and the quality was great. On a different day, the decaf coffee was watered down and really bad. I must however commend them for their good handling of the re-entry of guests back into the hotel after midnight. The queue moved fast and they provided water at the entrance to all returning hotel guests. Overall, I would not be booking the Marriott Marquis in New York ever again because of this experience. It was a real let down as the Marriott hotels that I had been to in other parts of the world had much higher standards.

The first thing I will mention is that the hotel is 5 star and is expectedly, very expensive, being in the heart of Times Square. I took this into account when writing my review. If I am paying that much, my expectations would be higher than normal. I stayed for 12 nights over the Christmas and NY period so I obtained a very comprehensive view of the hotel and everything about it. Overall it was a very comfortable stay and the staff were always there to attend to any requests and issues. The moment I got out of my transfer car, there was a lovely young gentleman waiting to get all my bags and transport me upstairs to the reception. The check-in was reasonably flawless but there was a bit of confusion around the payment because of resort fees the hotel charges daily. I prepaid my booking and there was confusion over whether it included or excluded the resort fee. The reception area is immaculately presented and the bar and restaurant are both located here. I intended to use the gym during my stay, but didn't have time to even take a peek. Nor did I visit the bar or restaurant. There's way too many options outside to do that. The very polite and courteous young gentleman then took me up to my room. He showed me everything and away he went. I got a bit of a room upgrade which I highly appreciated and had a beautiful view of Times Square. I was on the 2nd highest floor, floor 39. The room is not big. It was adequate for one person but nothing more. I don't think I would be able to stay here if I was with another person. It would be too uncomfortable and I had to find space for my 2 suitcases and carry-on. The bathroom is open plan, with a door for the shower and toilet. A big problem I had in my room was that if it was windy you will hear a loud whistle coming through the bottom of the front door. It really annoyed me. I had to take the cover off the bed and make a snake shape to block the gap underneath the door to stop the noise. Even a bath towel didn't work. They need to fix this. The hotel is very new and the rooms are very beautifully equipped, presented and maintained. I was pleased to see that most of the things I requested before I arrived (some extra bath mats, bath towels, hand towels, face towels, mini fridge, bathroom scale) were mostly there upon arrival. I quantified the number of towels I needed as I was not getting any housekeeping during my 12 night stay but I did not get the quantity requested. I expected a bit more attention to detail for a 5 star hotel. Before I arrived I was asked if I was celebrating a special occasion and Guest Services pushed up my expectations as I was celebrating a special occassion and they said something nice, I assume maybe a cake or some alcohol would be waiting for me in the room. When I arrived there was nothing. And there was never going to be anything throughout my stay. I didn't mind and only remembered towards the end of the stay. The location of this hotel is the main reason to stay here. The hotel is close to transit, shopping, restaurants, The Port Authority Bus Terminal and Bryant Park. My room had 2 double beds. The bed was very comfortable. One of the elevators was out of service during my 3-day stay. I had noticed this same issue with one of the elevators not working on previous stays so this seems to be an ongoing issue. Since the hotel has 33 floors and many many rooms this presents a problem for guests. The wait in the lobby is very long for an elevator and when trying to return to the lobby from one's room the wait is also very long due to only 2 elevators being in service. The elevators are VERY SMALL which further exacerbates this problem. The room definitely needs to be renovated and is showing its age. There were cracks in the ceiling, the metal pull/handle on the heavy sliding wood door to the bathroom was loose and coming off, the water did not drain properly in the bathroom sink and the tub/shower combination. The TV did not work. George, the engineer, quickly fixed the sink/tub drain issue and replaced the sink stopper which also was not working. He let me know that if there was anything else needed, to let him know as this is what he was there for. He overheard my call to the Front Desk letting them know the remote did not turn on the TV and offered to help. He found out the TV was unplugged and upon plugging the TV back in , the remote now worked. The tub/shower combination only has a glass partition covering half of the opening so when taking a shower, water easily sprays out onto the floor creating a wet mess. Very poor design for closing off a shower area that consistently gets lots of water directed out of the tub/shower area! Miguel, at the Front Desk, was professional and friendly and my main point of contact. Why are the above maintenance and repair items not checked periodically to make sure that a guest upon checking into a room will not have to spend unnecessary time out of their vacation handling these basic items during their stay? This was an inconvenience to me and took valuable time out of my short 3-day stay. Very disappointed with my stay at this Marriot. As a Marriott Bonvoy member I expected much more and a better overall experience!

I can’t rate this hotel higher. The views were breathtaking. The location is very simple! Making transit/travel a breeze! We checked in early, the wonderful woman at the front desk gave our son a little gift bag and we headed up to our room! Super easy check in. We loved every second of our stay here and we can’t wait to go back!!!

Excellent location quite near to Time Square. The room was not big but spacious enough to put a small luggage and still be able to walk around. The bed is large and very comfortable, had the best sleep during this sleep which helped me recover from the jet. Two negatives: 1. The sink drain is not installed properly, which doesn’t allow the water to drain away fast enough causing buildup. Quite disgusting when you are shaving, washing etc. when the dirty water doesn’t go down fast enough. 2. This one is not necessarily something Holiday Inn can control, but there is consistently some homeless ppl, ppl that look like they are on drugs outside the hotel. Also the sidewalk isn’t particularly clean. Now I wasn’t particularly bothered by #2, but could totally see ppl coming to NYC for the first time being turned off, or feel unsafe and choose not to stay here. Something for the hotel to think about.

Great location and modern but the wait on the elevators is to much and the only reason I booked this hotel because it has a pool that I couldn't use because they where having private event . Then I asked one of the staff working if the pool was going to be open the next day and he could only say I don't know the least he could do is go to the computer and check no he told me I got to go next day and check for myself.Secon nigth at the hotel I go to the rooftop restaurant bar waited 20 min to get acknowledged by someone put my food order waited 40 min for it never arrived when I go to the bar to ask for it all they told me was that the chef colsed the kitchen early.Front desk manager resolve the pool situation the food situation was never resolved.

Located right next to major subway lines, i.e. Times Square stations, PABT. The breakfast is good with many selections but can get crowed if you come late. Staff are very friendly. Room size is better than average for NY standard. Will definitely come back.
