Really loved staying here. Room was very comfortable, cleanand spacious. We had a ground floor unit with a peak of the sea. It was very central to shops and restaurants and the waterfront and amazingly quiet. No oven but the cooking facilities were great. The staff could not have been more helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

We had four bookings on the Friday evening, we arrived at 1:15pm, one rooms wasn’t clean which was okay as Check-In was 2pm. When I arrived back to the hotel a little after 3pm with my keys to the room, I went up and the room had not been cleaned. I went down to reception they did apologise and gave me another room key. A few staff members had called in sick, which is understandable at the post-Covid times. When we got to the the room it was run down and didn’t look like the photos at all. On our check out morning, the adjacent room, had obviously checked out early with housekeeping being in the room around 8am, making all sorts of noise and speaking really loudly, too bad if you wanted a sleep in. Our other friends had some issues too. They also had a weird cemetery photograph on the wall which seemed out of place. I was really hoping this would be a new place to stay as we are frequently in Townsville, next time let’s hope Rydges isn’t fully booked so we can stay there again.

Well located hotel on the beachfront though a bit of a walk to the city centre (The Strand has lots of places to eat so this is not a major issue). The pool was large enough and clean. The whole place would benefit greatly from a refresh - paint, furniture, settings etc. in my opinion this could give it a 4 star rating but due to this I only rate this with 3 stars. Staff were efficient if not exactly friendly. Beds pretty soft (which kills my back).

Pros are many Great value for the money , very welcome bar and restaurant good location ,great shower pressure helpful and polite staff Cons Could be so much better with some simple smartening up and dash of paint Maybe re carpeting too Be advised also if using the shower steam extraction only to use between 9and 5 as will wake up the whole street

I loved this place despite some downsides. It’s in the best area of the island, at walking distance from a stunning beach (Horseshoe bay). I booked it because I’m a digital nomad and Selinas are normally great because they offer a coworking space. The only issue is that I work European hours and I often finish at 9:00pm (as most of digital nomads I guess) but the kitchen closes at 09:00 and all the restaurants in the island close at 09:00pm too. The result is that during the week you cannot eat 😅 that’s not optimal. On top of that Wi-Fi stopped working for one whole evening and the following morning and I was stressing out because I had to send some urgent emails that could not be sent. For the record - there is not even phone signal so you cannot use data as a backup, you really need to rely on the Wi-Fi. Another flaw is that it’s too far away from everything, the only supermarket is 1hr walk (the bus runs only a few times a day) and they don’t even offer a scooter hire service (I had to get the bus and go to the other l’art of the island - it would be great if they organised something for guests). Nevertheless if you’re staying for the weekend it’s totally worth it. The staff is really nice, the restaurant offers good food and the place is just like paradise, it’s in the middle of the koala park. You are immersed by nature and it’s stunning. The dorms have very comfy beds and some have their own bathroom which is great. I am writing what to improve just because this place could be even better and has some room for improvement. But I highly recommend anyone to go (and I am already doing so)

Without being critical, we have to say that it was the wrong choice for our holiday purpose. The hotel is located within the central business area. The location is more suitable for business type travelers, away from more tourist area such as Strand which is closer to the beach. As such the area does not have much of a choice relating to eating, drinking and entertainment. The hotel is located in a four story building. Only floor level 1 and 2 are allocated to the hotel. Majority of the hotels rooms are exposed to either Sturt Street or the Stanley Street. The windows did not appear to be double glazed as some traffic noise was heard in the room. As the traffic level is very low during the night, this noise level was not a major issue. We were first allocated room 205, which had issues with the curtain rail runners. As such the curtains did not close properly. The road side lighting pole was just next to the room and the light itself was next to the room. Together with these issues night time sleep was adversely affected. At our request we were moved to another room 203. This room was much better. Some traffic noise was heard particularly when the vehicles make high acceleration after being stopped at the traffic lights (being at the junction) At level one of the hotel, there is a little common area with a large size refrigerator, microwave, cloth washing machine and a cloth dryer. The cloth washing powder, crockery & cutlery, tea, coffee were also available at this common area. The reception staff and cleaning staff were very friendly and helpful right through our stay.

We spent two nights at the Palmer Collective as we drove to Townsville for the Cowboys v West Tigers game. The room was excellent and had everything required for a comfortable stay. The shower was great and air con worked as it should. The Palmer also has a laundry with washing and drying facilities, both machines take $1 and $2 coins. There are heaps of things to do in the South Townsville area with bars and restaurants and a short walk has you in the CBD. There is limited parking on site for such a large motel, however there is parking across the road. We would fully recommend this motel.

Rooms are dark dated and extremely run down Paint work looks dreadful peel off furniture ie dressing table Chairs in rooms are dirty with black over used areas The room was cleaned but the furnishings Lee the feel of cleanliness down Reception friendly Beds were comfortable As a family we were lucky it was just a one night stop over room’s depressing feel to rooms ..we didn’t pay much therefore get what we paid for I suppose Wouldn’t recommend needs a re-vamp

Because of our flight’s late arrival, we chose this hotel for its 24-hour reception and good location on the Palmer St restaurant *****, a short walk from the town centre. Staff were welcoming, friendly and helpful. Underground parking is free but not secured. The buffet breakfast was delicious. Our room was spacious, with efficient air con, comfortable beds, two good chairs, hospitality tray and frig, no minibar and no ice cube tray. The two bottles of water delivered each day were very welcome. The bathroom, with walk-in shower, worked well but was a tad shabby. The bedroom lighting was excessively 1980s dim. We needed a torch to see the aircon control panel. We would return and recommend, but bring a torch.

We completed a 2 night stay 8th-10th February 2023 and it was the absolute worst! We were moved 4x on the same floor within 2hrs or less of checking in. The attitude from the receptionist was unacceptable. Strongly believe after so many moves, an upgrade offer would have been nice. However, the receptionist made us feel as if we were an inconvenience even though it was the hotel’s fault for having faulty air-conditioning. None of the four rooms were getting cold. We were then offered 2 pedestal fans as if we were staying in a back packers accommodation. The receptionist who “helped” us was very rude. We had organised a late check out for 12pm. On the day of checking out, house keeping and the same receptionist with the attitude, kept coming to disturb us in the room alerting us that it was past check out. This kept happening right until 11:40am. Wifi does not work so my husband had to hot spot from his phone to the tv to access Netflix and Fox channels. Only good thing was room service. Our balcony was inaccessible due to rubble and water constantly coming from the construction work on the higher floors. Did notice a chuck of concrete from the balcony edge missing which did not look safe at all. Overall experience has definitely left a bad impression. Upon check out, manager email was requested and formal complaint is being sent. Do appreciate their small token of an apology by discounting room service bill by 20% for the such rudeness and incompetence of housekeeping and that particular receptionist. Customer service is an absolute must for us and this hotel failed miserably. Definitely take your money elsewhere.
