Grecotel Plaza Beach House

Unbelievably friendly service in a great location. Rooms were clean and functional, restaurant was great. If I was being picky the pool was very cold but it was such a nice ambience poolside plus the beach is literally on the doorstop. Could not fault any of the staff. We felt like special VIP guests!

My child and I were accommodated in a room with noisy road view, which tourist buses and cars travel day and night. At night the room is noisy and also hot since the room always faces the sunny side. The cleaning and service in the room is poor, they forgot to take out the trash a couple of times (see photo). Towels and bed linen are also changed extremely rarely(if you need, you should go and ask to change permanently). To our regret, we lived here for 14 days! Even though we had 2 birthdays, the hotel administration put us in such a terrible room - it’s a big shame. The food at the hotel is monotonous, for example, breakfast every day consists of eggs, sausages, pancakes and bakery (you can’t count on variety here, even though it costs 50 euros per person). I do not recommend overpaying for food as there are excellent restaurants at nearby where serve a variety of food and very tasty coffee (for example, the Yalla restaurant). To assess the condition of the hotel, just look at the photo of the toilet (even the rims are cracked). I asked the administration to change the room, but they offered us a room with a lower level class and quality (in the basement in front of the main steps of the hotel). This is a shame - I recommend looking at the newer hotels in the area(which exists just checl a google map and reviews). And the cherry of the top: hotel suggested for us early dinner before departure, table was ready 10 minutes before bus departure, but they even didn't think that we need at least a water, or tea(or coffee). They don't care about people who are going to depart from hotel(at sthe same time we had a welcome drinks when we arrived 1st day). Have you tried to had a dinner without tea a water? :) Very low service...it is shame NOTE: Maybe few years ago this hotel was really good, but in 2024 it became obsolete, with low service and old rooms.

This is a lovely hotel, conveniently situated for access to Rethymno Old Town (40 minutes' walk, if you're that way inclined) or about 5 minutes and 7 Euros in a taxi. We arrived well after midnight due to a delayed flight from Stansted but were met by very cheerful and welcoming staff, who completed the check-in quickly and efficiently. Throughout our stay in the hotel, everyone we came into contact with was unfailingly, cheerful, helpful and friendly, particularly the two young lads patrolling the sunbeds on the beach. The room itself was OK (we were in room 128). I believe all of the rooms in the hotel are apartments and the one we had consisted of two rooms. One containing a large double be and the other bunk beds and a kitchenette. The bed was very comfortable and the aircon more than adequate - we only ever had the unit in the second room on despite being in the middle of a heatwave. The only criticisms I would have of the room are that, as the main bedroom is quite small, the door had to be closed to access the far side of the bed. Also, because the entrance door has a closer fitted, the wardrobe door immediately behind it could not be fully opened, meaning that the drawers in that space couldn't be accessed. This wasn't really a problem as there were only two of us. This is a problem which could easily be solved by modifying the wardrobe door to allow it to open fully. Both rooms have a small balcony and the one from the second bedroom/kitchen area was furnished with two chairs and a small table. The room overooks the courtyard but as we only used it for sleeping, that wasn't an issue. We were not disturbed by an kind of noise at any point in our stay. The hotel has a small pool at the front, which we didn't use as we preferred to be on the beach. I believe there are also a couple of small pools to the rear of the hotel but I didn't go to look at them. We were booked on a B&B basis as we like to have the freedom to try local tavernas, so really only used the hotel restaurant for breakfast. We didn't use the bar facilities as we used the service provided on the beach during the day, and then went elsewhere for dinner. Breakfast is pretty good, having a selection of hot options, although the sausages and bacon are not quite what we are used to in the UK - not bad, just not to our taste. However, the made-to-order omelettes were really good. As you would expect, there was a plentifuly supply of cold options, including cold meat, cheese, yogurt, fruit, nuts, bread and pastries. The only downside - and this is a personal thing - was the music, but seating furthest from the speakers (ie, not close to the road) rendered it quiet enough to be bearable! The hotel had a first floor terrace overlooking the beach but, for some reason which wasn't explained to us, it was closed, so I've no idea what's up there. Very nice hotel that resembles the courtyard of a small Greek village with rooms and apartments and balconies in many colors. Good breakfast and very friendly employees. We had a family room with a private pool. The hotel also has 2 swimming pools and a number of smaller ones for children. Room(s) also have a kitchenette with refrigerator and oven. Both rooms of our family apartment had well-functioning air conditioners, which are necessary given the temperatures there.

The location is good and near to center. Easy to get the bus to visit the town. The beach in front of the hotel is very nice. I am really disappointed as a Spa lover though. The Spa is in the basement, steep metal stairs, not the safest when you are all oiled up from a massage, small rooms for therapies and toilets need refreshing. I stayed at Grecotel White Palace before with the most beautiful spa and was shocked at the difference. It does not do the therapists justice at all and if I were them I would be always trying to work at the other one. Maria is so lovely though that you have to just put up with the surroundings, she performed a gel manicure perfectly. The highlight though was the 2 treatments I received from Manos (he was not working everyday at the spa). They performed 10 star treatments in 4 stars accommodation and that's why I scored a 5 star review. 5stars

Manos was my masseuse. He was very experienced and was able to crack my whole body with something called thrust technique. (I think the correct term is “make adjustments”). I run pubs and it comes with back ache due to all the barrels etc. Anyway, I couldn't find the spa the first 2 days so I was going to just forget it, but then I heard a couple talking about a great massage and they told me the spa was down some stairs at the back of the hotel. I'm so glad they did because Manos fixed me. The hotel is missing a trick if they aren't promoting this, I just don't understand it. Thank you Manos! I hope other people try harder than me to find you.
