Guy and girl working inside here are good people doing their best. Premises are good But. WARNING!!!!: the owner is horrible. She has really bad business manners, generally puts her clients in very bad monetary situations sometimes (check here and TripAdvisor for these reviews and you won't choose to book here I'm sure, I wish I had done that) Om my arrival day I was locked out at 2.30 am because the hotel didn't send the entry code to me and THERE WAS NO EMERGENCY NUMBER TO CALL. If says on the website after 21.00 you check in with a code. But no code in my email. I had to pay over 200€ total extra to go to another room, by taxi. Since I had an E-sim I could Google for a taxi and call via Skype luckily because the streets were empty and no public wifis. Standing in arctic winds alone in Iceland! All the hotel's fault. She tries to tell me I should have emailed them about a late arrival which there was NO INFO about in the confirmation and generally just blames me for the whole situation when clearly its the fault of the hostel. Horrible owner. She could have given me a refund for the first night as I politely asked but she refuses and simply blames me and *******. Horrible manners not caring about anything except some 50€ for 1 night Please use your money better and book B47 bus hostel instead-much better people working there, perfect for all excursions and transfers etc. Maria in B14 does not take care of the guests if something happens so better to go to a different place to avoid being treated horribly losing your money. So go to B47 instead.

Overall the hotel location and food is fine. Service is not very friendly though…. Coffee corner ran out of water, coffee and hot water. The front desk lady was quite helpful when I have enquiries.

If possible avoid the rooms at the front as the buses come and go all night so was regularly woken. Bed was clean and comfortable, everywhere except the twin rooms appeared to be bunks. There are far too many rooms and people for the size of the kitchen, which by the way was pretty revolting and very hot. No room in the fridge to store stuff, bring your own knives, forks, spoons, glasses and mugs. However there were plenty of saucepans and frying pans, plates and bowls (people were reduced to drinking tea from the cereal bowls) Reported this to reception but no one appeared to care and nothing improved during our stay accept for a bottle of washing up liquid appearing. Number of bathrooms was just about adequate, they were cleaned but depending on the users did get pretty disgusting at times. Locks on them were hit or miss. Bar area was nice enough, but not cosy or welcoming, no food available just crisps and vending machine. Walk to town was about 20 minutes and seemed safe. I have nothing in the area to compare this to as didn't stay anywhere else, but wouldn't really recommend.

The guesthouse itself was nice enough. Note that if you stay in one of the economy rooms, you will only have access to one bathroom per 5 rooms (unless you are willing to walk back to the main house and use one of the bathrooms there). This was not an issue during my stay, but I woke up super early to avoid it becoming an issue. The real issue for me was the lack of communication. I ended up needing to spend an extra 50 dollars on long distance calls because this business failed to check their email or Facebook messages. On top of that, I had to call twice because I was given incorrect information the first time. Note that booking this property is a risk if you book through a third party (Expedia etc) because you may not receive the email with instructions on how to check in (this is why I had to call repeatedly after they failed to answer my emails).

The hostel was clean and warm, the rooms were well laid out, with a safe for each person. It's such an odd looking building, but that's definitely part of the charm! The large kitchen/common area looks cool both from within and from the street looking up at it: the huge windows, and the warm coloured, up-lit walls make it so cosy! The hostel is spitting distance from Hallgrimskirkja, you can see it from the common room windows. This means you're in the heart of the city - great if you have no transport! It does mean you're in the heart of the tourist traps too... so any shop nearby (with the exception of Kronan stores) will be more expensive than those further afield. The staff leave you to do your own thing, the cleaners are all super friendly, the showers are always hot, and in decent condition. It really exceeded my expectations. I might have wished for an onsite bar or cafe for socializing, but everything is so expensive in Iceland that I was glad of the lack of temptation! And if you do need that sort of diversion, the B47 Hostel, which occupies the lower floors of the same building, has something like that. I'm sure it would have been okay to use it.

This one is somewhat tough to review. Service was 1-star. We received no instructions to enter and had to spend a fair amount of time on the phone (at costly international rates) to receive instructions. The instructions we received were not detailed enough. They did not mention entering through the restaurant to get to the first-floor rooms. Rooms on the second floor do not have to do this. The room itself was okay to decent. The kitchenette was nice, but the dishes were in the dishwasher when we arrived. The room lacked commonplace security features like an interior deadbolt, security chain, or a peephole. Combined with the strange way to enter the ”hotel” this made us feel uneasy. The fact that this hotel is not staffed and entry is through code would have been fine if detailed instructions were provided. Plenty of AirBnBs do this well. For the price, this would be much better value if they had better customer service and detailed instructions along with some additional security features. As it is I wouldn't recommend.

We had an enjoyable stay at Alda hotel. The location is perfect, all the shops and restaurants are nearby. The reception staff are friendly. Jorge was amazing and was extremely helpful with helping us book our transport to the airport. Will definitely stay again in the future. Highly recommend!

Room was very good with an excellent bed seating area and bathroom facilities excellent. Right next door to Reykjavik Domestic Airport but no noise. Interesting watching small jets arrive and depart. Blackout curtains dudnt let light in. Only twobNegative things about my stay - no instructions on how-to use coffee machine and when checking out asked for luggage to be brought down only to be told that would be an extra charge! Once I pointed out I was disabled - luggage quickly appeared. For the price I paid it had all the mod cons I would expect.

The staff, accommodations, and location at the Reykjavik Residence Hotel were exceptional! We traveled with 3 families from the USA to Iceland with our elderly parents as part of our dad's 80th birthday bucket list. We corresponded with the hotel staff via email before our trip and they were very prompt and helpful in answering questions. You never know when you're emailing a hotel operation if you'll even get a reply. Imagine our delight when they replied quickly and were extremely helpful, even with offering restaurant suggestions or to call taxis for us. We organized the airport pickup car service which made our arrival very easy. With 6 people and lots of luggage, the car size was adequate and driver very professional. The driver took us to the hotel reception desk. We'd taken a red-eye flight and the hotel staff greeted us with a very warm welcome. They offered us coffee, a place to sit, and use of bathrooms. The reception area was comfortable and the bathroom even had a full-size luxurious tiled shower if needed (definitely not a truck stop shower here!). Our rooms weren't ready so they stored our luggage at no charge and were very accommodating when we needed to retrieve items. Upon check-in, they called a taxi to transport us and our luggage and to the building. It was only a few minutes walk, but this was very thoughtful considering it was a cold and windy winter day. Our building was newly renovated and was very clean and fresh. We had rooms on the basement level, the main level, and the top floor. Each room was spacious, had a large kitchen, and clean and comfortable bathrooms. The basement room had a full-size sliding door that walked outside. The top room had a mini balcony that overlooked the harbor. We'd read some reviews about a sulphur smell in the bathrooms or the water supply. We didn't experience this at all. In fact, we routinely filled our water bottles with the tap water in the rooms and it was perfect to drink. They performed daily housekeeping service automatically and we left laundry one day which was returned within 24 hours with no problems. Definitely take the breakfast option. The bread is baked fresh, filled with air pockets and crusty outside. Hard boiled eggs, fresh fruit, yogurt (skyr), meats, and cheese. This was a great way to start the day. Coffee was included in the room and the kitchens also had mini-fridges which included a supply of milk and apple juice. The beds were very comfortable and rooms were well-heated. Wi-fi was fast and included. We spent one week at the hotel and highly recommend staying here. It was the size and layout of an apartment, with the amenities and service of a 5-star hotel. Things to watch out for: If you're traveling with others, try to arrange to be in the same building. The buildings are definitely spread out and are a far distance from the reception area. This is a good option if you don’t want to stay in Reykjavík centre and just a few minutes drive out, but in a very secluded location through an upmarket residential area and down on a little peninsula on its own. It is so quiet. There are cosy basic rooms or superior rooms. I’d booked a standard triple room and when we arrived we found it was under the rooftop hot tub and sauna and feared noise so we called the number given for assistance and requested a room change. We had to upgrade however are so glad we did as the superior room had a sea view and was so much bigger. It was organised within minutes and extra bedding bought over for the sofa bed and we paid the additional cost over the phone. Great service thank you. I would definitely recommend the superior room, however we didn’t hear any noise fr the hot tub at all so I think people are very respectful. It’s a really quirky quiet place without any service such as reception bar breakfast etc but would happily stay again. Got a great sunset view and I imagine if Aurora played ball it would be stunning here. There is no check in, rooms are left unlocked so it’s very easy.
