The service is so good. They left one employee check in at midnight. They also provide a complimentary bottle water when you ask for it.

The good: The location can't be beat. Less than 1/4 mile walk to the Colma Bart station. I booked a room with one queen bed. It was a small room, but just right for one person. All sheets, towels, blankets seemed new and were perfectly clean. I inspected the bed, and the mattress and box spring were perfectly clean. The TV was a new flat panel TV, and had a good selection of channels.. Free parking right in front of the room. Wifi was good (35mb down, 15mb up). Bathroom was perfectly clean and stocked with plenty of standard soap, shampoo, and body lotion. A new coffee maker, microwave and mini fridge were also in the room. Very quiet and peaceful at night. Owners were friendly. What could be improved: The carpets - they are in dire need of replacement. They were dirty and ripped. It wasn't a big deal for me as I usually bring flip flops or slippers with me. Also, the furniture was pretty grubby, The table surfaces were clean, but the rest of the furniture had stuck on dust. Also, they use a plug in oil diffuser as an air freshener which is overwhelming for such a small room. I unplugged it as soon as I got there and opened the windows and door. After being there for 3 nights, the room was still clean smelling - the air fresheners weren't needed. They are probably causing the stuck on dust on the furnishings due to the oil residue.

I want to share my recent experience at this hotel, which I regretfully cannot recommend. The hotel has an attractive location but is marred by a lack of basic amenities and poor customer service. During our six-night stay, we discovered on the second morning that there was no hot water. We informed the receptionist, Andy, but were met with a dismissive and rude attitude. We were informed that there would be no hot water for the rest of the day, and this lack of basic amenities was for a total of three days of the six days of our stay. Please note that according to California Civil Code §1940.2, it is the responsibility of the hotel to provide and maintain hot and cold running water for guests. To make matters worse, when we requested to check out early due to this issue, we were offered no refunds as our stay was prepaid on expedia. Expedia told us that the property was to decide while the property said it was expedia.. As I am a hotelier myself, I know it is the hotel’s call in the end. We were offered a shower facility in a separate building which was very inconvenient as we had to walk out of our building and take elevators to get there.. This was not a suitable alternative to the basic amenity that we had paid for. To add insult to injury, at time of check out, Andy offered us only $80 as a refund on a reservation worth over $1500, what a humiliating act, we could not believe it! Better not to offer anything, because really it is a shame to offer this to people.. We were one of the many customers to complain, and we saw that the receptionists had no sympathy towards anyone.. Yes, all businesses are there to make money, but not like this. What they did is close to stealing from someone! I cannot recommend this hotel to other travelers, and I will continue to write on other platforms to warn people..

Lovely quaint hotel that feels like it has some history. The renovations are modern with a comfy bed, pristine sheets and plush towels. The upgrade did a good job of keeping to original aesthetics and respecting the classic building. The location is a minute walk to Union Square and next to other bigger chain hotels. The staff were all very friendly especially the check-in with Vivian! Her friendly welcome and 5 star customer service after a long flight in was greatly appreciated! Comes with coffee and pastries in the morning in the lobby area before you start your day exploring the city. Will stay here again upon my return to SF.

We stayed in the Barnes for four nights in June 2023. Firstly, the hotel is really well located, right by Union Square with all its transport links and 20-30 minute walk away from the Embarcadero and Oracle Stadium. The room was clean and cleaned daily, staff were all very friendly, and it has a great gym (we stayed at the Galleria Park during our last stay in SF which was more expensive and the gym wasn’t fantastic). The bathroom was a little on the small side but the room was a decent size with a comfortable (but slightly on the softer side) bed, fridge, huge TV, coffee making facilities and a table with two bar stools. The hotel is good for the price you pay. We didn’t spend huge amounts of time in the room as we were busy sightseeing and it was perfect for what we needed. As other reviewers have pointed out, some parts of it are being renovated but we were not impacted by any noise so we had no complaints on that side. I note one other review mentioned noise from the road, we did experience that but it didn’t bother us.

Overall a good stay, really near to the airport. There's even a free transit shuttle which is great. Took the king room, clean and a pretty nice & clean space. Amenities can improve though, there's no kettle, but a coffee pot. If you need hot water, you have to deal with the coffee taste. Also, there's no general lights control; you'd have to turn them on individually and it's hidden near the bulb. This needs to be indicated.

2nd stay at this hotel. Super convenient location. Clean room, comfortable. Haven't been able to take advantage of any of the amenities like pool, whirlpool, gym, or dining. Free parking is a big plus and why I chose this place over others. Wonderful staff. Highly recommend
