Great place for rest. The beach water is beautiful, the staff is kind and pillows and mattress top quality

Just the standard RUI Hotel setup…unable to get a booking in any of the specialty restaurants. Buffet restaurants the same repetitive food. Polite cleaning staff. Reception staff need to be more customer focussed I arrived at 8pm given a keycard and a map and pointed in the direction of the room…no one to help with baggage. Requested late checkout on the RUI app had it confirmed and then I find keycard not working on the day after spending the morning by the pool headed to reception was told I should have requested this at reception…at no point in time did the app state this. I was told that the bell boy had put a note under my door..that’s ok if I could actually get into the room to read it, but there was no note ! Would not say this is a 5* hotel more a 4*.

Check in quick, did online before arriving, reception area nice apart from some of the sofas have stains on, bar areas and drinks good, coffee place nice, food (buffet only) good with excellent opening times. Can’t comment on any à la carte. Pool area ok but loungers dirty and need replacing. Pool towels old with holes in. Beach area lovely apart from the constant harassment from the local vendors trying to sell you trips as you approach it. Loungers there also need replacing. Staff look fed up,, only some cracked a smile. Entertainment ok. White night fab. Went to the disco and the dj plays the music extremely loud!! Need ear defenders. Cat cafe never replenished with food or water. Gym good although 1 gym between two large hotels was ridiculous as always busy and not able to get on some equipment at times. Maybe have longer opening hours. Gardens, walkways well maintained. Rooms absolutely terrible and this is where Riu lets you down. Paint peeling, wood rotting, holes in the walls, rust, stains on the headboard, dirty marks on the walls, towels with holes in in, old sheets, stains on the sofa and curtains, food marks on the drawers. Outside my door all the cleaning carts, like an obstacle course to get passed. This is not 5 star accommodation. I discussed this with the rep as I left and her comment was ‘well it is Africa’!!!!! No sorry, it’s a Riu and there standards should be high like the others I’ve stayed at. You could turn a blind eye to everything else if they took care of the rooms. Definitely in need of a refurb.

We was put in a room that smelt of damp. On the last day we moved our cases and could see the full extent. I complained when I got back and was given £450 between 2 of us. TUI made the process stressful and don't seem to care they would get a bad review. Disgraceful holiday

The Hotel is Great. The facilities are very good. The Staff are great. The restaurant on first visit is impressive with a wide variety of if food. You soon get to realise it does not change much so can get repetitive. However my main complaint is the food is nearly cold. The Island of Sal is very barren with very little to do. This is purely a relaxation beach or pool holiday.

Arrived at room and wanted to write a review immediately but thought I'd wait a week into our two week stay just in case! Needn't have waited, this place is paradise. I understand reviews are subjective but having stayed in many Al resorts of varying quality over 30 years i feel ok to comment. Tired resort? Absolutely Not! For the money paid this is incredible value; for goodness sake what more can this hotel provide?? However, just because our room is fabulous, I wonder if some rooms are less great. Room; First floor large double with comfy super-king bed. Plenty of storage. Beautifully clean. Air con and ceiling fan efficient and quiet. Glass fronted balcony with reclining chairs. Palm tree and sea views-breathtaking. Bathroom area great with two sinks and fab shower- so easy to operate-hot water when wanted and no temperature fluctuations. Also.. no bad smells! Amazing for Al resort abroad. Stocked mini bar, spirits optics and safe all included. Food: Not had better in Al hotel. Evening tables laid with cloths, cloth napkins and glasses. Attentive, ever friendly smartly dressed staff and so much food choice. Never the same. After we booked this fortnight away we were made aware of the health problems that have been attributed to this island and specifically these hotels. As a couple in our 60s we felt we might be vulnerable but decided, nevertheless, to throw ourselves into this whilst remaining 'germ vigilant' as we always are anyway. Have had cocktails with ice, prepared fruit, breakfast smoothies, sushi, smoked salmon, rare steak.,.nothing has caused any tummy problems. Speciality restaurants are amazing. Steak restaurant and Kulinarium have fine dining as per posh restaurants at home and wonderful staff but all this is included! Evening entertainment: Really good quality. Way better than expected. Complex: Spotlessly clean. No slippery tiles around lovely pools. Gardeners, chefs, restaurant and bar staff, cleaning staff, entertainment team all hard working and SO friendly. Not heard a bad word spoken about this place from guests here this week. Capuchino Coffee Bar is amazing serving so many coffee and tea options (including Jamaican and Irish coffee) and sports bar has TV screens, fußball and pool (really poor cue tips) Internet great, hotel problem solving good with speedy service. Bought masses of mosquito sprays with us just in case so unable to comment on mozzie situation here as i constantly spray just in case and have only had a few bites. Be kind to the guys on the path to the beach selling tours as they are really friendly and just doing a job! Also a mention for TUl on this holiday as the service has been fab. Negatives? Don't bother trying to get a sunbed as they'll all be taken and it's a stunning beach but the sea is rough! And, a biggie for me as a butter lover, more often than not margarine is listed as butter so enjoy the butter when available.

Advertised as a 5 star hotel, we would rate it a 4 at a big stretch. The facade of the hotel looks ok but the rooms and amenities need major refurbishment. It’s all just tired and patched up. Worn out bathroom towels, stained bed linen, overpainted dirty woodwork, rubbish and empty cans lying around in gardens of terrace and balcony. Not enough sun loungers in swimming pools for the volume of guests. No toilet seats on toilet and door not lockable in swimming pool. All in all not good enough and need major improvements. The food and entertainment however was excellent and no complaints about that. Will not visit this hotel again.

We arived late october, the reception ares was impresive, clean and staff were brilliant. Porter took our cases to our room while we went for a bite to eat. The choice of food is excellent & would say to much choice. Plates were never warm so you needed to be quick to eat bofore the food went cold. Ater eating we went to the room to unpack & was very disapointed with the quality of the room. very basic what you would expect at a b&b, the toilet leaked otherwise the room was clean & was cleaned every day. One day we had no towels & reception were not answearing the phone so we ended up using our beach towel. The small box of tissued soon ran out & was never replaced. The bar was topped up most days. 1st morning we had breakfast again lots of choice service was brilliant. We the went to the pool but we had no chance of getting a sun lounger even though they had a no reserve policy. Next morning we were sat on our balcony 6am & could see peaople rushing down to the pool which didnt open till 7am. we never got to sunbath by the pool, ended up going to the beach every day. All in all in my opinion the hotel was managed poorly & was the worst riu hotel we have ever stayed in. It is not a five star hotel by a long way & as we only have one holiday a year we try for a good one & had faith in riu due to staying in a few in the past. We also blaim tui for rating this hotel 5 star & have also lost faith in them. Cocktails were so basic out of a ready mixed plastic botle to staw or trimmings see photo.
