Sporthotel is an absolutely fabulous hotel, and I enjoyed every minute I was lucky enough to stay here! The hotel has a sport & healthy living-theme and is perfect for young, sporty and adventurous people who want to explore a lesser known but spectacular and truly authentic part of Portugal. I have travelled all over the world, but Sporthotel offered a truly unforgettable experience. I absolutely love the minimal, modern and elegant design of the rooms and the bed is super comfortable, with crisp bedlinen and small pillows that are just perfect. The rooms are super clean, very well organised, with excellent maintenance, a great shower and lovely big towels. The cleaning ladies are simply wonderful, super sweet and are really doing an amazing job. My room on the fifth floor had a lovely little balcony and a truly spectacular view over the mountains. If you are looking for a place where you can watch the sun rise over the mountains, Sporthotel is the place to be! The breakfast is out of this world and super healthy with yummy scrambled eggs, fresh fruit salad every morning made fresh from local products, traditional local breads, Greek yoghurt, linseeds, every day different (!) home made cakes - and also some traditional Portuguese super yummy sweets like Pastel de Nata. The breakfast team is really amazing and will do anything to spoil you and make sure you have a great start of the day! The breakfast room has floor to ceiling windows with a spectacular view and also an outdoor area if you feel like soaking up some sun. The hotel has a gym that is probably one of the best hotel gyms that I have ever seen, because it is also a local gym. It has all equipment that you need (I only missed the 6 kilo dumbbell), and a weightlifting room with great windows and a view. There are personal trainers who are extremely capable and will push you to become the best version of yourself! What is really wonderful that classes are included in your stay, so you can go to Yoga, Pilates or Zumba classes that are excellent and also a lot of fun. Additionally, the gym has a great sauna and a modern Turkish Steamroom and super motivating and helpful personal trainers. Everybody at the reception is super helpful and will do all to give you a great stay and helpful tips to explore the surroundings. Additionally, the lobby is a great place to relax and there is a little supermarket. Covilha is wonderful, it has an university and theatres and is still super close to the mountains for outdoor activities like hiking and (sometimes) skiing. I actually liked my stay in Sporthotel so much, that I decided to stay for four years and absolutely LOVED my stay. Highly recommended!

The pools were nice and the architecture is spectacular. However, don't expect to eat there because the food is terrible, the service deplorable, and the ambiance is fine if you like eating in a noisy daycare centre. Management seems non-existent. Check your bill carefully, because items were added that were offered to apologise for the bad food when we complained. We didn't expect these items to be charged to our bill!

Conceito do hotel bem conseguido, c/ instalações a condizer e confortáveis. Equipa (receção, área de refeições, bistro/bar, passando pelo SPA-Natura, sem esquecer todo o pessoal que organiza os quartos), simpática, c/ disponibilidade permanente. Dieta de uma de nós (Vegan) com a confeção de pratos muito agradáveis. Ganharam um fã! Quartos e SPA muito agradáveis. Aconselho quarto de trás (+ sossegados). Para um fim de semana alargado para visitar a Serra da Estrela é optimo.Parabéns!

Hotel Sinai Belmonte Nice hotel located in the historic center of this little town. Plenty of free street parking. The hotel is quite modern with a spacious lobby and lounge. The restaurant on site doubles as the breakfast room. Breakfast was a nice buffet of breads, pastries, cheeses, meats, fruits and cereals. Our room overlooked the valley below the town. It was decently sized with plenty of power plugs but no designated USB ports. There are flexible reading lights on both sides of the bed. The closet was spacious. The bathroom was spacious and included a large shower(no tub) with the most vigorous water pressure we have ever experienced in Portugal. They supply a combination shampoo/shower gel pump in the shower. But like everywhere else we have stayed so far no hair conditioner nor are washcloths supplied. No refrigerator. A little balcony off the bedroom was a nice touch. Besides a small ruined castle and a few churches there is not much to see here and the town is too small to have much in the way of shopping although the tiny crooked streets are charming. Suggest that this not be a destination but a brief diversion or simply a place to settle in for the night before continuing your travels.

The Staff is great, the new SPA zone is also really good, but it's still an hotel and on this it fails absolutely to be good...the rooms are old, very used and not clean at all, actually there's a big cleanliness problem on this hotel. Don't let your self go with the pretty photos you see, while the rooms are not remade and the cleanliness is not improved this Hotel is not worth even half the price they charge. It's such a shame that currently in Portugal Hotels charge you 5*+ money but deliver 2* service/accommodations... The rooms are horrible...not clean at all, very very used, strange smells, strange bathroom's. It seems that there was a lot of money spent on the wrong things and it's really sad to see this on what could be a great hotel. But the cleanliness is a big problem, the rooms smell bad (because of lack of cleanliness), there's huge amounts of dust all over the place, garbage on the floor, bathroom not clean with signs of use by previous customers...a disaster... The staff assumes all the errors and they even moved us to a new room, but even the new room was not great (at least for the price they are charging) and we've still had to stay the fist night on a not decent at all room...

The best thing about this hotel: its location in the Serra da Estrela. It is relatively close to the Torre where the only ski resort in Portugal is located; and to Lagoa Comprida from where it is a 2.5 hour walk (each way) to covão dos conchos (the famous hole in the Serra da Estrela). Second best: the breakfast: fresh orange juice, and plenty of choices. Reservations must be made for breakfast and dinner. There is a restaurant in the hotel called Restaurante Medieval. €25 per person for a generous buffet. The parking lot is ample. The internet is ast. They rent ATVs for tours of the Serra. The downside: We asked for a room for three people. We were assigned a suite with a double bed, but the other bed was temporary, the mattress was very uncomfortable and very small. So, if you go more than two people, we recommend you to book two rooms.

What a wonderful place to stay, I had stayed here before with friends on a Moto Tour so knew what to expect, my expectations were surpassed, it’s a really lovely place to stay. On this trip I was with my wife, I had talked up Convento Da Serta before arrival and we both agreed the out of 9 good hotels on our Spain & Portugal Tour this was the best by far. * Chaves as a town has character, charm and is very pleasant to walk around. * Convento Da Serta, is in a prime position, elevated above the old town * There are good bars and restaurants within easy walking distance * The hotel itself is a charming and a very well adapted stone built Convent, there is a small pool, easy parking on site, the rooms are excellently appointed with good views over the town some have small private balconies all have Air Con. The staff are very attentive and both eager to please and keen to help you get the best out of your stay at the hotel and the area surrounding the town if you have time to explore. * Breakfast service was freshly prepared, presented well and staffed to cope with the demand, the food itself was very good. * The restaurant recommendations were spot on we chose one that was recommended it was lovely (see separate review, for Ponte Romano)

Je ne sais pas quoi dire sinon que tout était parfait La chambre était bien insonorisée, très bonne literie, la salle de bien bien équipée avec plein de petites attentions Nous avons mangé au restaurant de l'hôtel (midi et soir). Les prix très corrects et de très bons plats, un serveur (brésilien) parlant bien le français, qui a pris soin de nous tout au long du repas, très agréable. Et le matin nous partions de bonne heure et n'ayant pas pu prendre le petit déjeuner, le,personnel nous avait préparé une lunch box J'espère que nous y reviendrons Je le recommande. Vous ne serez pas déçus

The Pousada Serra da Estrela is a fairy-tale hotel in the middle of the mountains with magnificient views towards Covilha. We had a splendid stay in this magnificient hotel. The rooms are wide and comfortable, the people at the reception desk are very helpful (special mention for Xavier Pérez), and the people at the bar are also kind and ready to help. Breakfasts are superb. Nothing wrong about this magnificient place.

Had to stop in the mountains during our Portuguese road trip and couldn’t find a more ideal and apropos location. Serra da Estrela is the highest mountain range in Continental Portugal and this delightful cabin sits atop of the mountain overlooking the quaint city of Covilha. The views are sweeping and stunning, right from the armchair in your living room. This place sleeps 8 or more, but we enjoyed it as a romantic retreat for just the two of us. It’s kitted out beautifully with a pellet burning stove as the heat source, much sought after laundry facilities and all the comforts one could ask for, with stylish panache. The location is fantastic, with great restaurants and bars within steps of your front door. We hadn’t heard of Portuguese ski country until we planned this epic trip and would encourage anyone to add it to their list of stopovers whist in this fine country. It was especially fun to visit in January to see how Portugal’s local population enjoys winter within their own borders. It was a great location to visit the historical Piódão as a daytrip and the driving the area offers countless gob-smacking vistas, as well. It’s a wonderful chance to see another side of this fine country and sample the local sheep’s cheese, rustic food specialties and cozy attire that’s exclusive to this unique area. The beds were cozy and comfortable, and the views from every aspect of the cabin, unparalleled. Both bathrooms and the kitchen were immaculate, offered all amenities, and were tastefully presented. In fact, there were many aspects we didn’t have an opportunity to enjoy, like the stone BBQ in the backyard, or the sprawling lounge areas – but we could imagine many large groups enjoying all it had to offer. The only area for improvement would be the arms-length connection with the host. For example, we were directed to pick up our key at reception at the unaffiliated hotel across the street. They claimed no knowledge leaving us with only the sporadic Airbnb chat mechanism to connect with the owner. As my husband and I experienced severe heart palpitations, we re-grouped to weigh our options, having no place to stay in the area, despite having paid upfront. Only then did the woman call us back giggling that she had the key after all, having misplaced it. Glad it worked out but - yikes! We tried to make reservations at the local restaurants in advance, but that proved impossible, so we asked the host to book on our behalf. He informed us that no reservations were required. That simply wasn’t true, leaving us scrambling for our meals in this tiny location. We had Portuguese only instructions for the pellet stove, but muddled through and managed to get our one heating source operating in -5 degrees, never-the-less. All of this worked out in the end, but made it a bit harder to relax, which was the point of our stay. All in all, we really were delighted our stay, despite some noteworthy hiccups. What a great hotel formerly a monk’s monastery. Incredible grounds and mountains surrounding the facility. Very friendly staff. Unique way to stay. Rooms identified by monk’s names. You walk through halls and floors of stone getting to your room. We had incredible views and could see for miles outside our back patio. Comfortable room and bathroom. Very nice.
