Ancient Mosque 🕌 in Singapore

Masjid Jamae or Jamae Mosque is another iconic religious building located in Chinatown. Address: 218 South Bridge Road Singapore 058767. Very near the Chinatown Food Street. Established in 1826, like its neighbour Sri Mariammam Temple, they stands out in Chinatown, a predominantly Chinese location. A fun fact, it is also known as the Chulia Mosque and Periya Palli, where the latter means Big Mosque, among the Tamil Muslim community. We learnt about this in Social studies and History, where Chulias refers to the Muslims, whom refers to the Indians who originated from coastal areas of Tamil Nadu in India. So during the administration of William Farquhar, a Chulia kampong was marked out, and the Chulias had their own mosque, thus named Chulia Mosque.
