We had an excellent stay at this Machiya (traditional Kyoto townhouse) for 3 days. We only did in-room dining one night, but that was also excellent. The check-in process is a little strange, as you will receive communication from the company that's a little dense and will not interact directly with the staff unless you choose to. We had to scan and send our passport photos and fill out a registration card, but that was it. The property is small by European/American standards in the sense that you will need to be careful to avoid damaging (including possibly your own head) things during your stay due to height and luggage weight. There's slippers provided to switch from your walking shoes to walking inside the property and there is an excellent bathtub and washroom with washer. My two cautions - this firm has English speaking employees available during business hours (and an emergency line) but it is geared primarily towards the Japan renter. Be prepared to know Japanese or be willing to take the time to translate certain things via your cell phone/app of your choice to understand how to work the various appliances. As an older building, learning the heating/cooling. The second caution, as an older building sound is an issue. You will hear the street and need to control your volume in order to be a polite guest. If this isn't something you're looking to do, then just throw the money at a more modern hotel experience. We liked it - not everyone will.

My old boss used to say, ”Love is in the details,” and this place truly loved us. We traveled from Tokyo to Kyoto with our two kids (ages 12 and 9), the youngest of whom is o b s e s s e d with Sanrio. This room was a surprise for her. What almost blew it is that you check in at the main Resi Stay office near the train station (do yourself a favor and do the paperwork before you arrive to save time), and the van that drove us to the properly was EMBLAZONED with Hello Kitty on the side. Listen, if you don't go to Japan and drive around Kyoto in a Hello Kitty van, you're doing vacation wrong. The hotel is only 4 rooms on a quiet side street literally a one-minute walk from the market. And let me tell you, if you have a Hello Kitty fan in your party... THIS PLACE IS IT. It's clean, huge, and everything from the shower products to the ice cube tray under the sink to the kimonos to the toothbrushes to the hangers in the closet are on theme. There was a full themed gift bag, too! They even rigged up a hand sanitizer bottle to a high-hat cymbal in the main entry way so Hello Kitty can sanitize you on the way in. Note there is no staff on property, but when we had a question, we just called the main office. It's also walking distance to the Gion district and high-end shopping. Hot pastry tip: Since most of the city doesn't open up til 11, we were happy to discover that City Bakery is right near the closest entrance to the market down the street which opens at 8am and had incredible coffee and pastries and a delightful patio.

This cute Inn is located a good 12 minute walk from any station. However, you are walking through a beautiful residential area of Uji, We are local residents are living. No tourism here. Also restaurants within a few minutes. The room is bigger than most Japanese with a sofa. The bathroom is so cute and compact but perfectly usable and clean. Good water pressure and hot. I enjoyed the Sencha tea In the kitchen area. You re I a your own once you check in and Will be welcome to use the kitchen and dining areas. I would recommend us for a small family

Lovely house in central Kyoto, easy and convenient to get around to other parts of the city by bus or train. Very clean and atmospheric, floor heating, ACs, water temperature control. Mind you this is a traditional house so taller people beware, you are going to have to practice some ducking. The nearby environment was very lovely and quiet with some caffès, food places and shops all within 10-20 mins walking distance. Definitely recommend this place and other properties under the same name if you prefer this kind of stay to a traditional hotel.

It was so enjoyable to stay here. There is a traditional rekan with all attributes to feel really Japanese culture. The hotel is located in quite area, around 15 minutes from Kyoto station. The administration explained all the rules that you should know. It has very thin walls so it’s possible to hear the neighbors, but for one night it was pretty ok. There is shower, toilet and sink in the room. Also teapot, teabags and hair dryer, so it’s very comfortable to live here. I appreciate to stay in such a hotel, thanks for great experience.

- 1 bathroom with a stainless steel bathtub and small plastic chair to sit during showering. There is a small heater on the floor to warm your feet at a dry zone - 3 toilets without heater - 3 basin The shared space room is available for about 7 people. Hot water, tea, and coffee are also in this room . Calm and cozy environment. The walls and doors are just wood templates and mulberry paper, but they will keep warm temperatures in the room. There are 2 layers of mattress and 2 blankets for each person.

Friendly receptionist who introduced nice restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries and bike rental service. Reception and the house are in different location, they’d deliver our luggages to the house after check-in. The house environment is amazing, spacious and with great equipments. We enjoyed our stay with the nice kitchen, hot tub and the floor heating! Very comfy especially in winter time. I recommend this place for couples, friends and families. It’s spacious enough to accommodate more people.

If you are a traveller like us who would like some more privacy, this place is not exactly for you. Don't get me wrong, the hotel staff are absolutely wonderful. Just that most things are communal and you have wait for your turn to shower and finish by 11.35. The walls are quite thin indeed, you can easily hear people walking on the hallway or simply chatting in their rooms.

Loved the room K21. Short walk from the Gojo station, very nice and traditional room with tatami, we always bought our breakfast from the nearby store and enjoyed our breakfast in the room ( with a nice little table next to the window) before we headed out. In general we loved it! Even tho we were sharing the bathroom but we barely saw anyone else, there were only 4 rooms in the house we stayed. Other guests were polite and kept quiet during the stay, grateful for that!

A short walk from Kyoto station and the hotel staffs are super friendly. I don't hear any noise coming from the track even though it is next to it.
