We had booked three nights at this hotel but cut the trip short and just stayed for two. Firstly the location is poor - I know I am contradicting some earlier reviews but this is as we saw it. We thought we were in the Douro Valley area, we were just on the edge. Alijo is a town that seemed to have moved on from the wine business, a lot of buildings were fairly new and not in keeping with elsewhere. The outlook from the hotel is over a school which is noisy at times and a park area. One wonders whether vineyards were taken up to build these. The hotel itself is a handsome building with a great terrace and a (not very clean) pool in its grounds. There does not appear to be any connection with Baron Forrester, strange choice of name for it. There has been some refurbishment, there was a great bar and most of the public rooms were great. Our bedroom was good with a Juliet balcony overlooking the terrace (and the school, one morning they had a VERY loud event starting at 7.30am, that was the last straw for my husband) however the bathroom was dingy, with a gruesome shower curtain and mould around the edges of the bath. In the room there was no safe, tea/coffee making facilities, no fridge let alone a minibar - just the space for it?! Old fashioned hair dryer in the bathroom. Air conditioning wouldn't be switched on 'until Monday' despite it being 30 deg. This was the fourth Pousada we had stayed in on this trip and was a big disappointment. We had driven through the Douro Alto on the Tua road to get there and had high hopes as to what it would be like. We did discover it is 'franchised' to Pestana rather than owned and run by them. We had dinner there the first time which was not good, tasteless under seasoned lump of veal for me, undercooked rabbit for my husband. Breakfast was fine and lunch on the terrace very nice. Staff generally were great though sometimes hard to find. We couldn't face dining there a second night and had scoped out places in the town which looked a bit basic... to be told that chef had Covid and the restaurant was closed. Possibly because of that they did not charge us for the last night when we checked out in the morning. Husband was told the printer was u/s so they couldn't print off the receipt. You couldn't make it up...

We stayed here twice – one night at the beginning and one night at the end of a week's hiking in the Douro Valley (first night room 5, the last night room 6). The hotel is modern and tasteful. The rooms are quite small. It is not possible to have even two cabin trolleys open on the floor. One could just about fit under the table – there was no room for the other one. But the rooms are very tasteful and the balconies are great with nice balcony furniture. The balconies vary in size – our second room (room 6) probably had the smallest of them all, but it was still large enough for the furniture and the pretty view is the same. There is a fridge but no electric kettle or other ways to make a cup of coffee. No tissues either. The bathroom in room 5 was nice with a large modern multi-function shower and even a view from the shower through the room and over the mountains! In room 6 the bathroom had a bathtub rather than the shower unit – it was a good deep bathtub, but if given a choice, we prefer the shower. Nice big towels (always a plus). Breakfast was nice. We arrived in Pinhão by train and had been advised to take a taxi. As it was less than a kilometre to walk to the hotel we didn't take a taxi … and regretted it bitterly as it is steep upwards and on many stairs. No problem without luggage, but with the suitcases it was a struggle! Totally our own fault – just to warn others not to be as silly … :-) If the rooms had been a little bigger and if there had been an electric kettle, I would have given 5 stars. As it was, I give 4. But we enjoyed our two short stays and would not hesitate to come back.

Numa zona difícil a meio de uma encosta, com uma vista soberba sobre o Douro, este Hotel de Agroturismo nasceu de uma quinta e de uma Adega, Val Moreira, que o Grupo oportunamente comprou. Depois de uma experiência com poucos quartos, foi a oferta alargada para mais quartos, todos com uma vista soberba para o Douro, mas com o crescimento trouxe dois problemas, escadas e dificuldade de estacionamento. No entanto a qualidade dos quartos, do serviço de restauração, razoável o pequeno almoço, um jantar à carta e dois buffets, sempre muito completos e com um serviço de colaboradores simpáticos e competentes, são no conjunto uma mais valia, e que compensa as dificuldades que anteriormente mencionei. Também a visita à Adega e a prova de vinhos são excelentes com colaboradores muito competentes e simpáticos. A paisagem sobre o Douro, é espectacular e a localização do Hotel fabulosa. Quem quiser ir a este Hotel, com dificuldades motoras deve pensar duas vezes, muitas escadas, mas não poderia ser de outra maneira.

Estivemos uma estadia curta mas excelente. Bom atendimento e simpatia , sobretudo para a menina Verónica, profissional e muito simpática. A suite é fabulosa e o hotel novo , tudo muito bem!!!!

Uma experiência inesquecível nas terras do Douro. Ideal para quem procura descansar e relaxar. O hotel é recente e tem uma ótima infraestrutura. O SPA, com vista para a magnífica paisagem exterior, é ideal para relaxar no fim da tarde, após um dia de passeios na zona. A localização é idílica, com vistas panorâmicas para os socalcos centenários dos vinhedos da rota do Douro. O ambiente é familiar e o staff é de uma enorme simpatia e disponibilidade. Pessoalmente, eu tenho algumas restrições alimentares que foram sempre prontamente atendidas. Na altura os carregadores para carros elétricos estavam a ser substituídos. Aconselha-se a confirmar se já estão em funcionamento, caso necessário.

Lovely hotel on the Douro River. Views are beautiful and peaceful. From our balcony, you could watch the boats going by and the sun on the vineyards. We had booked the romantic package, which included drinks, champagne, breakfast, as well as a picnic and tour at the Quinta do Roeda winery. Everything went off without a hitch. Our room was lovely. Breakfasts were excellent. And service was welcoming and friendly.

Um excelente e clássico hotel, muito bem localizado. Instalações muito boas, a limpeza perfeita em todos os espaços do hotel. Os quartos são grandes e confortáveis a cama, almofadas e lençóis de muito boa qualidade. Pequeno almoço variado e com qualidade. Várias salas de amplo espaço e muitos sofás, com um bonito terraço e esplanada de vistas bonitas. Todos os funcionários são atenciosos e simpáticos.

Situated on a hillside just outside Tabuaco the hotel boasts stunning views. It is possible to walk.into the village (about 20minutes). It is well situated for exploring the area around the Douro. The hotel.is modern and rooms are a good size with the amenities you would expect. Staff are friendly and helpful, if a little overwhelmed when there were 2 large groups there. Food was plentiful and good, although not always that much choice. Having said that, my partner is a fussy eater and he found things to eat. Greater attention to detail would improve ratings e.g the safes did not work (despite bringing this up with the hotel.on multiple occasions), the Orange juice at breakfast was very weak, more like Orange squash than proper orange juice.
