This is a gorgeous hotel that is centrally-located inside the ancient city with great service. It’s like living in a museum!
The hotel is housed in a thoughtfully renovated ancient college with a beautiful courtyard for chatting, eating, and chilling. The rooms are large, clean, and quiet. I really enjoyed the traditional mat style bed.
The hotel is a short walk away from the bustling Main Street. It was very convenient to walk to most attractions inside the walled City. The hotel owner also arranged free transport to take me to the high speed rail station.
The service was wonderful. No complaints!
If you’re staying here, I recommend checking out not just the ancient walled city but also the ancient temples in the area.
I would stay here again without hesitation.

Very very nice stay, Mr Li and Mrs Li were very hospitable and welcoming. Mrs Li makes a very nice local breakfast that is a great start to the day. The property is at a quiet corner within the old city, very near the main sights but yet nice and quiet and night. Room was clean and comfortable. Highly recommended.

My stay at the Red Lantern Inn in Pingyao was absolutely unforgettable! From the moment I arrived, the owner was incredibly friendly and provided full-service hospitality. I was even greeted with a thoughtful gift of vinegar upon check-in. The hotel is unique and charming, not your typical modern hotel. The reception is located in a shop at the front, but the hotel's name is clearly displayed, making it easy to find. The directions on Trip.com were accurate, and although it’s a bit of a walk from the North Gate, it’s worth it.
The atmosphere of the inn is enchanting, transporting you to old-world China. The rooms are simply designed yet very comfortable. The hotel also offers traditional costume rentals for photos, which was a fun experience.
What truly stood out was the exceptional service. The owner helped us arrange a bus for sightseeing and even provided a free ride to the Pingyaogucheng Railway Station, despite it being quite far. The car was spacious and comfortable.
To top it all off, I experienced my first snowfall here, making my stay even more magical. I highly recommend the Red Lantern Inn to anyone visiting Pingyao. It’s a place that offers not just a stay, but an unforgettable cultural experience!

Es una casa tradicional que cuenta con todo tipo de detalle.
A destacar la amabilidad del personal que nos sacaron las entradas para visitar los templos y nos indicaron la ruta a seguir así como recomendaciones de dónde comer.
El desayuno occidental muy completo!

強烈推薦！！第一次來平遙！猶豫半天還是選擇了古城裡麪住宿。網上一通看民宿。最後這家是最新中式最現代的一家（古風的太重有點害怕）。到了以後停完車進到城門師傅就來接了。很方便。我們訂的兩個大床房，正好四個人住。進入房間眼前一亮。很好誒，乾淨整潔衞生！很喜歡！！！唯一一個小意見，希望地板那個床墊再厚一點就更舒服了。總體感覺非常滿意！等天氣暖和再來！

房間面積四五十平在古城裡很寬敞了。裝修真材實料，房間擺設細節也很多，總體比較有品質感。床很大很舒服。而且我們因為孩子已經分床了，還把沙發鋪成了小床。大家休息得都很好。衞生間很大，大浴缸也很乾凈，我們每天都泡了一會兒。
酒店處處都是別緻舒適的座位，造景細節也很多，感覺分分鐘都能悠閑的坐一會兒。度假氛圍濃厚。
位置在縣衙門口，去南大街也衹需要幾分鐘，去南門登城牆也衹需要幾分鐘。遊玩方便，還鬧中取靜。
服務很好。工作人員的狀態讓人舒服，熱情又鬆弛，看得出管理風格不錯。帶着孩子，也主動給了小童用品。每天送的水果也是新鮮、豐富，十分有誠意。
最後一天晚上，因為從身份證上看到當天是我生日，在我們遊玩回來後，酒店還送來了愛心小蛋糕和精心拉花的酸奶，還有酒店自用的洗護套裝作生日禮物，給了我一個暖心的驚喜。
總體上我沒選錯酒店，孩子一上車就哭了，捨不得走……
但為了讓酒店百尺竿頭再進一步，成為同等價位酒店的不二之選，希望還能提升一些細節：1 毛巾有點硬有點黃，跟其他設施檔次不太匹配。解決這個問題應該不太難。2 早餐兩天一模一樣。廚師該多花些心思了。3 浴缸很大，水量太小。每次要放二三十分鐘……

The location is at the center of the old City. Close to many tourist attractions and the busy south street.
The hotel rooms are just IN the traditional Shanxi luxury mansion. Very unique experience.
But what makes the stay one of the best is the butler service. From the pre-arrival arrangement, post-arrival introduction of the old house, to the patient and warm service to our inquiries and requests, Juan’Er makes the stay really enjoyable.

過年帶狗狗一家人出遊、首先寵物有好就很大愛、因為一家人所以定的大炕房、對於喜歡睡硬床的人超級推薦、如果喜歡軟床可以選擇其他房型、酒店就在古城北入口右邊的位置、住在北邊就比較安靜、到南大街步行18分鐘左右，也可以像我一樣帶狗狗坐景區的擺渡車一個人10元。酒店的衞生很乾凈、冬天温度也很暖和、整個院落的設計真的很喜歡、是中式帶現代的設計、我覺得比古城裡太過古色古香的要讓我舒適，服務也很到位、有什麼需求直接微信、就都給滿足啦！

PPengguna TetamuWe stayed at thos lovely hotel. Lovingly restored by the current owner Mr Wang. He is the 6th generation owner of the property.
Until 10 years ago it was a derelict and dilapidated building. He poured money, time, blood, sweat and tears to restore it
And it does feel and look like a traditional house.
You feel you are going back in time.
Firstly the customer service is way beyond the call of duty. Its so good, i would recommend staying with mr Wang at whatever hotel he runs.
He picked us at the Lower East Gate, and brought us to the hotel, then took nearly half an hour to explain in great detail where we need to visit, whether the sights be in the city or outside the city.
Some of his suggestions, not on the tour books were very good . For example he suggested 3 restaurants, and we avoided them thinking he was getting a kickback.on our 4th and last day we tried restaurant no 2 of his. And it was good , the food and service were good. The prices were average with other restaurants and we got a 10% discount being the hotel's guests. And remember we had eaten 10 meals by the time we came to his suggestions.
Another suggestion of Mr Wang was Ma family home - also a very good tip from him.
Everytime we had a request or question he always responded with enthusiasm.
On our last day we checked out at 4am and he still took us to the pick up point at that ungodly hour.
Yep Mr and Mrs Wang's customer service is just first class.
The room was large, queen deluxe double, and the furnishings were traditional chinese furniture made of Rosewood. Very Expensive furniture for a hotel room. Shower worked well and was hot. However be aware its chinese style wet floor system ie there is no shower curtain between the shower and a small part of the bathroom does get wet if youare not careful. MR Wang said it will be one his improvement on his priority list. Hopefully by the time you booked the problem will have been resolved
The hotel is very close to the main streets. About 5 min walk.
The city of pingyao is worth visiting, it is one of the very walled cities left in China, with its old buildings intact and people still living it. All the city walls are also intact. Magnificent at night.

PPengguna TetamuI stayed 3 nights in this hostel. I liked it really much. I felt at home there. The owner are really kind, they speak English very well and, they are keen to chitchat with you after your day which is really nice when you are traveling alone. Also the hostel is really clean. On top of that, the hostel is nice with lot of plants. The location is great it's only 2 min walk to reach the old town. To conclude, i highly recommend this hostel in Pingyao and I would come back without any questions.
Je suis resté 3 nuits dans cette auberge. Je l'ai trouvé vraiment très bien. Je m'y suis senti ”comme à la maison”. Les propriétaires sont très gentils, ils parlent très bien anglais et ils aiment discuter avec vous à la fin de votre journée, ce qui est très agréable lorsqu'on voyage seul. Également, l'auberge est très propre. De plus, l'auberge est bien décorée avec se nombreuses plantes. Enfin, l'auberge est très bien située, elle est à seulement 2 min à pied de la vieille ville. Pour conclure, je recommande chaudement cette auberge et j'y retournerai sans hésitation.

IIGreat location, quiet neighborhood but not far from the center. The room is clean , comfortable and has the atmosphere of an old traditional home. It is the service that needs significant improvement to warrant the current four star rating. The price was for two people and yet, there was one tea bag per person, a very small roll of toilet paper and the facial tissue bixes were almost empty. The breakfast was no better: ine boiled egg, a small bun, a bowl of sweet porridge and a tiny slice (about one tenth) of a sweet potato and a root vegetable, with a tiny portion of pickled cabbage. For a mainland B&B well below standard. What’s more, the old nan who was on duty in the morning would pick up dirt from the floor while handling food with bare hands and had trouble finding toilet paper in the storage room while I waited outside in freezing weather. The host is friendly and helped with orientation and organizing transfers to the railway station, so with little improvement in service this could be a good choice for Pingyao.

RRick SingaporeWhat an extraordinary hotel. It was converted into a hotel from a 400 year old workshop. The hotel is a combination of old world charm and modern facilities. Really impressive with the service provided by the owners. You just need to arrange with them to pick you up and sending off to the train station for free. Will definitely stay in this beautiful place when visiting Pingyao Ancient City.

RRinMMReally love the hotel’s a**osphere. It is cool both scenery and weather. There aren’t much noice and people around the hotel, a little walk and you will reach some of the tourist’s attraction. Some employees can speak english or if not, wechat is the best help. They also booked taxi and drop us off by the taxi, the service was wonderful. Will stay here again if there’s a chance of visiting.

PPengguna Tanpa NamaI was here just before the New Year. It is wonderful place in case you like authentical style. It is real aincient classical chinese house in the area with three yards. I lived in the upper part of the hotel, so called women's section of traditional house (second floor behind the high wall). The room was furnished with REAL old chinese furniture , including traditional bed and sofa with small table. But there are all nessesary conviniencies. Hot water all the time, heater abd conditioneer. It was very warm in the room and you can control the heat level. There is cafe in the hotel with very tasty and cheap food including fresh vegetables salads. The host was very hospitable and helpful. Organized transfer from the airport at arrival and to railway station at departure.
Drinking water supply in bottles was unlimited. She provided me with map of the city with detailed comments in English.

We took the high speed train arrived at Pingyaocheng station which is around 15 minutes away from the ancient city. When you enter the city wall gate, you will be amazed of the narrow streets and cobblestone road. Picked Yundingxuan hotel because it was closed to the North gate so
If the taxi was to dropped us off it’ll be a short walk but the driver dropped us off near the hotel because cars are not allowed within the main streets.
The hotel is closed to 200 years old and have characteristics of the Ming and Qing dynasties. I was born in Vietnam,
With roots to China but raised up in the US since I was 7 years old. I’ve seen Chinese movies but nothing will prepare you to the hotel and the ancient city. I was surprised how big the hotel complex was. All the staff were very nice, the main host spoke English, and the breakfasts were traditional Chinese breakfast. We stayed two nights and we felt safe throughout our visit. My wife and daughter appreciated the three hotel cats and all the felines throughout the city.
I’m sure the other hotels are fantastic and will give your a unique experience but I can vouch for Yundingxuan. Just be prepared to get out your comfort zone but be amazed by the visual and taste of Pingyao Ancient City.

MMartinThe host were nice and friendly. They speak no English but they use and app for basic translations. The room is good value for money. Modern and clean, with good architectural finishes. They don't provide towels, shampoo and so. No air conditioner either, thou I asked for a fan and they gave it to me and it was perfect like that. Location wasn't so easy to find, the access road can be either dusty or muddy depending on the weather.
It's about 15 minutes walk to the north gate of ancient Pingyao city wall. I would recommend specially to couples as it's the same price as for solo travellers. (I guess the price is per room) They didn't ask for a deposit as written in their policies, which is a plus. I attach a plan explaining how to best get there. Recommended.
