Montebello|1km dari pusat bandar
This hotel is a disgrace. This hotel should be no more than 2 stars. It is a beautiful building that is so poorly maintained, the owners should be jailed for disrespecting a national treasure. Like so many Fairmont hotels, the only thing that keeps people coming here is the old, historic and quite beautiful building and setting. But that’s where it ends. The common areas are in poor condition. Lobby and bar furniture are old, worn and in many cases the cushions are torn or worn right thru. These are not problems that just popped up. They have been permitted to persist likely for many years or even decades without being addressed. Where the fabrics aren’t ripped, they are so old and dirty looking you barely want to touch them for fear of contracting the plague. The hotel restaurant is outfitted with vinyl furniture from Home Sense, not what you would expect from a 5* hotel chain. No one cares enough about this property to make any significant financial investments in its upkeep. The rooms are also a disaster. Small, with a tiny bathroom. The carpets were worn, stretched, and bunching on the floor. The furniture was beat up and worn. The air conditioning was so loud that it quite literally sounded like someone operating a small lawnmower in your room. It must have been a 30-40 year old air conditioning unit. It was so noisy we couldn’t sleep with it on, so instead sweat it out thru a mostly sleepless night. The bathroom tiles were probably also 30-40 years old, and the bathroom door looked as though it had been given 20 coats of paint over the years, but never a proper refinishing. Everything just looked ‘ewww, gross’. For a company that operates such national treasures, the folks at Fairmont should be brought before a Parliamentary committee and forced to testify about their horrible treatment of these properties. If these hotels were children, and Fairmont the parents, the government would have intervened long ago to ***** away custody and try and find better caregivers. Perhaps all these issues stem from the fact that the actual property is owned by Evergrande, who likely has neither the money nor the desire to make ant investments in improvements, but I suspect most of these issues existed long before Evergrande acquired the property. Anyhow, this property is a rip off, not worth it, and what’s worse, seeing it only makes you realize the unmet potential that exists here if it actually had owners and operators that cared to elevate the property to what it could and should actually be. So sad to see. I had a very similar experience at Banff Spring several years ago, and at the Fairmont Vancouver about a decade ago. I have avoided any other Fairmont until now, and yet again another huge disappointment. It seems this hotel chain has built quite the business on running poorly maintained, dirty, dumpy hotels in beautiful old buildings. Do better, please.
