We’ve just returned from an 11 night stay. Our first impression wasn’t great due to the miserable gentleman who check us in, no warm welcome or smile. The porters who drove us to our room in block 12 were great though. Check out wasn’t any better. The room itself was ok, very dated but comfortable. We did have to report a few issues though - the fridge was broken (replaced the next day), shower head was broken, water sprayed everywhere but down (this took two days to get fixed), the hairdryer was broken (this was never fixed despite being reported several times, gave up in the end). The shower cubicle is very small, tiny in fact. I had a daily fight with the shower curtain wrapping itself around me, it drove me bonkers. Plenty of hot water though which was great. Didn’t use the huge bath so can’t comment on that. The housekeeping was very hit and miss. We were left without towels for two days which was very inconvenient. Coffee/creamer/ water wasn’t stocked up on several occasions. I did ring reception and they delivered straight away. The beds are extremely comfortable, we slept really well. The room did feel quite damp, our clothes felt wet at times. The air con worked well. The food in the buffets was just ok, very repetitive but that’s to be expected. We didn’t starve. The lady on the omelette station cooks a great egg! We only tried the steak and Italian restaurants, made a nice change. Highly recommend the lamb in the Italian, it was delicious. The pool area was well maintained. Lots of loungers to go around even if you’re a late riser. The animation team worked hard to keep everyone entertained. The music did get quite loud at times. The pizza and sandwich bar were very handy. Drinks that are served in all bar areas aren’t watered down. Lots of alcoholic and non alcoholic cocktails to choose from. The Mint Tonic was very tasty and refreshing. The beach was nice but you do get people trying to sell you trips, tobacco, massages etc. A polite no thank you and they’ll leave you alone. There are people with parrots and iguanas trying to get you to have your photo taken with them, again no thank you works. The staff - very hit and miss. Some appear to want nothing to do with you. I do have to give credit to one waitress in the main buffet who works on the right hand side as you walk in, she was so cheerful and friendly “ coffee coffee coffee, Agua agua agua” she was hilarious. The girls in the main bar are an absolute asset to the hotel. They were lovely, kept the drinks flowing. I’m sorry, I can’t remember their names, Marri, Fanny I think we’re two of them. The grounds were kept immaculate by the hard working staff. The wildlife was great to see - many variety of birds, saw my first woodpecker. Lizards, crabs. It was wonderful. Sadly we won’t return as we feel there was just too many snags. It could, with a little effort be a great place. It’s not really catered towards English speakers, it was a struggle at times to make yoursel
