Hotel di Siculiana

Villa Athena has been the top hotel in Agrigento and one of the well-known luxury hotels in Sicily for decades. We could not get a reservation there on our first trip to Sicily, but this spring we were able to stay for 2 nights. The location is as amazing as pictures and website show - you can look our your window or sit in the garden with a full-on view of the Temples. Absolutely stunning. Having said that, location and view are only one part of the hotel experience. Our room (temple view) was extremely small, but very well-maintained; the bathroom was decent-sized and totally modern. Still, it was the smallest room we've had anywhere in Europe in a long time, let alone for a 5-star hotel. Since we were there before summer, breakfast and dinner were served in a totally indoor space without any view and decorated in an ultra-modern style, which left us a little cold. And while the front desk staff were very welcoming, the restaurant staff did not add much to our experience -- on the first morning, we were ignored (for ordering coffee or seeing a menu) until we called someone over and we never got a single smile from anyone. We were so surprised that I mentioned it - quietly - to the front desk person. It actually made us decide to have dinner elsewhere. On the second morning, the breakfast staff was friendlier, but I have to say that it colored our opinion of the hotel. We were happy to have finally stayed at the Villa, but if I were to return to Agrigento, I'd seek out an alternative. If the Villa advertises itself as a 5-star experience and charges accordingly, it needs to deliver. We'd be willing to stay in less luxury but with warmer, more personal service.

Stayed with a tour group. First impressions were good-really ornate smart lobby area but sadly went downhill quite quickly. Spiral staircase not very practical for a hotel when everyone comes with luggage. Beds too soft & squeaked badly. Soundproofing wasn't anywhere near good enough for the standard of hotel. Ordered to sit at specific tables at breakfast but not told about this on check in. Some items were not being replenished very quickly at breakfast & wasn't easy to see where to find what you wanted. Hotel on a busy road in an industrial area. Lidl supermarket next door, one pizzeria down the street, another is advertised but wasn't open when we looked. Otherwise very limited facilities in the immediate area. Evening meals are served at the hotel but no pizzas and menu choices there were had higher prices than any other places we ate in Sicily so didn't bother. Dinner service doesn't open until 7.30. Shame did not get to use the pool but was glad to only be staying one night. Would not recommend.

Io e la mia compagna ci siamo voluti regalare un viaggio in Sicilia, tappe Palermo, Agrigento e Catania. Ad Agrigento era impossibile non andar a vedere la Valle dei Templi, allora abbiamo scelto questo hotel, siamo rimasti entusiasti su tutti i punti, la struttura è eccellente ma forse le persone che ci lavorano lo sono di più, gentilissime ed estremamente cordiali. Hanno saputo rispondere con competenza a qualsiasi domanda e poi la cena, che dire, ottima, non mi immaginavo che il ristorante di un hotel fosse così! La cura nelle pietanze servite è sicuramente da 10, hanno un cuoco o cuoca oltre ogni aspettativa, ripeto non solo nel cucinare, ma nel servire, nel consigliare, nel raccontare e spiegare le pietanze, il tutto non si limitava a degli ottimi cibi ma era condito anche da quel sapere che i gentilissimi camerieri hanno saputo raccontare a dei semplici commensali. Siamo stati in coppia una notte ospiti di Giuseppe e Nicoletta con una prenotazione all'ultimo momento. I proprietari hanno saputo accoglierci in modo eccellente qualche ora prima che il check-in fosse disponibile. La camera è spaziosa, con finiture ricercate e ben ventilata contro il forte calore della zona. Il bagno ad uso privato è degno di un hotel a 5 stelle. Al mattino seguente ci è stata portata la colazione fresca di pasticceria, all'orario e con i prodotti concordati insieme il giorno dell'arrivo. Si trova a pochi passi dalla via principale della città e a pochissimi minuti di macchina dall'ingresso della famosa Valle dei Templi. Qui mi sono sentito da subito in famiglia e so già dove tornare per visitare la bellissima Agrigento in futuro. Consigliatissimo!

We stayed at the hotel first week of November coming to the end of season in Minori and booked before reading into the hotel as we found a good deal. It’s worth knowing before booking that the hotel does not have parking available and our parking costs equated to approx 100 euros for the week which we did not anticipate. Additionally the use of the pool was not available due to the time of the year which was frustrating as the temperatures were still as high as 22/23 degrees. Furthermore, the room was hot and the air conditioning units do not work after November, we were simply told to open the balcony doors for fresh air. It should be noted that the noise of the traffic outside the hotel even out of peak season made it feel like i was sleeping on an F1 track. The plug sockets were irritatingly situated in the room, only 2 available which was awkward when trying to charge phones and no where near the bed when relaxing. The hotel was spotlessly clean, with fresh bedding and towels every day - the housekeepers do a fantastic job there. All the staff were very pleasant and welcoming, I just wish we visited Minori in the summer to appreciate the hotel fully.

Fabulous location! Breath-taking views and wonderful staff : Giuseppe (direttore di sala), Michele (sala), Antonietta e Christine (reception) e Sofia (experience). Strongly recommended, just watch out for the price of bottled water (€5 a bottle!) We only found out on the last day that there was a water fountain by the pool and on the beach, but that’s not clearly advertised! All in all, we had a lovely stay!

For me this hotel give me one of the best vacation experience! The front desk staff two women and a young men when out of their way to help me whit every need I had even if it was out of there responsibility and or scope of work. I needed to travel to Palermo airport but the train authority was working on the rails we spend a lot of time figuring out what was the best plan of action to make this 3 hours trip a great experience w/o me spending 12 hours waiting for my flight at the airport. So I took the bus and spend only 2 hours at the airport to come back home Bravo!! Noeme the pool attendant and Alfonsa the room service ladie were particularly helpful in making my day go by smoothly and enjoyable wile sleeping well. The breakfast staff remember how you like your coffee after the fist morning, do I need to say more?
