GGuest UserWarm period atmosphere hotel. Very clean, quiet and spaceous rooms. A few small steps to negotiate to room but no problem for us. Very good value. No meals or breakfast served but great location to walk to cafes and pubs. Also near town centre. Covered car park at hotel. Excellent discount for residents but be aware spaces limited and cannot be reserved. It is also available to non residents so can get busy. We would certainly return.

GGuest UserThis hotel was located just off the motorway, and fairly easy to find. Upon arrival/check in we were informed of our room number and given our key card, however no information was provided. ie (check out times, breakfast times, any of the bar/restaurant details, pool/fitness centre details. We had to go back and forth to reception through out to get the information we needed. Fortunately the staff were friendly and welcoming which made easy to approach them.
Room was nice, bit cramped even for a king privilege room. Not much space to walk, too many unnecessary chairs. Room and bathroom was clean. Mini fridge was nicely stocked up with water and soft drinks for free. TV in the room was a smart tv, allowed us to watch Netflix via screen mirroring which was excellent. Bed was comfortable with multiple pillow options. Sockets and USB charging points on both sides of the room, great for charging multiple devices. Full length mirror and cupboard space to hang up clothes. Nice gown and slippers presented neatly on the bed.
We did visit the pool facilities on multiple occasions during our stay. It was just a medium size. With a separate jacuzzi and steam room and sauna. Pool water was nice temperature, slightly warm which felt really nice. Lighting in the pool area was poor, quite dimly lit. Lockers in changing area needs a padlock, as we didn’t know we didn’t take out. Some chairs are available on the pool side which we were able to put out things.
Dining room was nicely laid out with ample space to move around. Breakfast had multiple options including vegetarian options available on request. Staff were friendly and helpful.
Overall a pleasant stay. Would recommend it.

PPeter ClemensA Wonderful Stay at the Lowfield Inn – A Hidden Gem on the English-Welsh Border
We had a fantastic stay at the Lowfield Inn and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Our family room was spacious, clean, and very comfortable, with plenty of room to relax, including a sofa. The bed was especially comfortable, ensuring a great night’s sleep in a quiet and peaceful setting.
The inn features a lovely common area and a roof terrace with a beautiful view of the surrounding countryside. The scenery is stunning and perfect for enjoying long walks along the border between England and Wales.
The pub itself is a true highlight—offering a great selection of traditional cask ales and a very welcoming beer garden where you can enjoy the evening sun. The atmosphere is warm and friendly, and the staff are genuinely helpful and accommodating. We particularly appreciated the thoughtful touches, such as pencils and paper provided for children.
As for the food: it was excellent and exceeded our expectations. The menu offers a wonderful mix of traditional English pub fare and Indian dishes, all prepared with creativity and care. The starters were delicious, the mains were generous and satisfying, and the desserts were absolutely indulgent. The children’s menu was also well thought out and very appealing. Breakfast was equally impressive, with a wide selection and very generous portions—no one left hungry!
There’s also plenty of parking space, which made everything even easier.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return the next time we’re in the area.

MMidweek night away GobowenWe visited Lion Quays on a midweek night away - I have wanted to try the hotel for a while.
The receptionist was very friendly on arrival but warned us that the lift was broken that day. She offered help with our bags - which we declined. But we would have struggled if we had poor mobility as we were on the top floor.
We were in room 312 with a view of the canal which was lovely. However there was a hole worn in the top cover on the bed - it didn't affect us but it looked bad. We noticed alot of the furniture in the hotel was worn - particularly in the dining room where the seats and arms were bald.
We had a sandwich and a beer out on the patio before we visited the leisure club which we had been looking forward to. The steam room was out of order and closed and the light in the rustic sauna was not working although it was open. Since it was mid August - this was pretty disappointing.
We didn't eat dinner in the hotel- instead going to Henlle Heights nearby for a fantastic Indian meal.
We slept well in the room, the bed felt very soft but was really comfy. There was a fan provided but we didn't use it.
The following morning we discovered the lift had been fixed.
We really enjoyed breakfast, a fine selection of hot and cold options to help yourself and spent some time sitting out near the canal with our coffees which was super relaxing.
We did like Lion Quays and we would return however there just seemed to be a few rough edges which came across as lack of care which was a real shame.

GGuest UserRoom is nice and clean. Location is great, just next to the main road. Carpark is not free, charges £5 if not booking the room through their website. Rmb not to buy their breakfast, it’s just breakfast boxes that can be bought cheaper at the hotel. It is also convenient to just have breakfast at restaurants next to the hotel. There’s no lift, so need to take luggage upstairs.

GGuest UserBrilliant hotel right in the town centre, easy to find just off the motorway. The swimming pool was lovely and warm with good showers and lockers. The breakfast was superb with as much as you can eat. The view from our lovely with green grass and trees. We would love to come back.

GGuest UserThe hotel is a little tired and in need of refurbishment in places. The staff were very friendly, especially considering they were having to work on NYE!
The room was warm, the bedding/towels were clean and breakfast was good. We couldn’t connect to WiFi during our stay until we were in the car park ready to leave

RReediWe booked for the Shrewsbury School speech day and leavers ball so the whole town was fully booked. Thankfully there was a suite available at my favourite local hotel. We needed a room for 3 and the hotel staff were super helpful in accommodating our needs. It’s family owned and the culture of care is pervasive. It’s a hotel where the staff like to say yes. Not to mention the character of the hotel itself. It’s a mixture of 12th, 15th and 17th century architecture forming an elaborate maze of rooms covering the block. The Matthews family have truly created a 5 star hotel experience. I was even offered a glass of sherry by the night watchman when I checked in on once at 1am. I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

MMeg6366This is a lovely place, we stayed in the ‘cottage’ which was more like an annexe building and it had two rooms of which we occupied one. The room was good, we enjoyed breakfast in the dining room and the breakfast menu had a lot of choice too which was great. There were options for a full English style breakfast, but also options for cereals and fruits etc. We decided to try dinner at the hotel one evening and we were extremely happy with our choice. The food was excellent quality and very enjoyable. The hotel is a short walk into the centre, very close to the castle which is worth a visit and you can see the castle from the road you walk on from the hotel to the city.

The hotel was clean and staff were available and friendly.
Free parking is available.
The hotel is very near a co op supermarket and petrol station. There is a pub restaurent next door the Squrriel which uses taste card. If you plan to eat there make a reservation and eat early.
The town is nearby but would be a bit of a walk and I didn't see any bus stops for local transport links. The town of Ludlow is only a few minutes and free parking available after 6 pm behind town square. Again could be a good idea to book a table if you need dinner.
This is a good Travelodge to stay at.
