A clean and relatively modern hotel sitting on top of a hill with a spectacular view of the harbour. There is an indoor/outdoor onsen on the ground floor and free alcohol and snacks from 3 to 5 pm every afternoon! Great value for money, and a great place to relax and ease back into civilisation if you’ve just come out of the mountains after doing the Kumano Kodo.
I had a wonderful stay at Shirahama Terrace Hotel. The location is perfect — just a short walk from the beach with a beautiful ocean view. The room was clean, spacious, and very comfortable. I especially loved the onsen facilities; they were relaxing and well-maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout my stay. Breakfast was delicious, with a good mix of Japanese and Western options. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Shirahama.
Great location of the hotel. The bus station was near, also Lawson and Family Mart were near.
The hotel is quite old, but it didn’t bother me at all. It was quite clean and the room was very spacious. The view was incredible!
The onsen was very good, especially the one on the second floor. You can lie in the hot water and admire the ocean.
And sleeping on tatami is the best. If you are not a fan of sleeping on tatami and a hard pillow, you should choose a Western-style room.
The famous beach in Shirahama is just one step away from the hotel. Excellent sea view from the hotel, and the service was marvelous. The girl in the front desk can speak wonderful English and can communicate with us smoothly. The Onsen was soothing and was relaxing. The room was clean and spacious, with special tatami beds which were really comfy to sleep in. There is an indoor balcony in the room by which we can overlook the view. Overall, this was a nice experience and we are looking forward to stay here again.

Very Good
GGuest UserThe hotel's location is excellent, making it very convenient to get to all the main attractions. The surrounding scenery of the hotel itself is also beautiful, and the facilities offer a great experience. While the dining options are quite varied, the Japanese cuisine isn't among the best, and the ingredient selection is just average. There are some seafood restaurants nearby that can offer a good alternative.
GGuest UserThe hotel has been renovated, and the overall hot spring facilities and lobby are nice. You can also choose your preferred yukata pattern. However, the bathroom in the room hasn't been renovated and is still very old-fashioned, which was a bit unsettling.
Furthermore, the hotel's breakfast and dinner were very mediocre. The ingredients weren't great, and the food itself wasn't tasty. After eating there once, we didn't eat there again and went out to find food ourselves.
GGuest UserWe had a lovely 6-day stay at Shiraraso Grand Hotel with breakfast and dinner included. What stood out most was the personal touch in everything—something you rarely find in chain hotels. Every staff member works well as a team to ensure guests are comfortable, and we appreciated that throughout our stay.
Our room was meticulously cleaned each day. The view was spectulae. We had good sleep because of the comfortable beds and pillow. The hot bath was a nice bonus, and we also enjoyed the free wine events.
The buffet breakfast and dinner were genuinely impressive. Over six nights, the chef prepared nearly 10 courses each evening with almost no repetition. We truly appreciated the variety and effort. They accommodated our special request of replacing the sashimi dishes to cooked food.
A special thank you to Mr. T. FUKUSHIMA. Due to my own mistake, I had booked a room with futon beds that we wouldn't have been able to use. He arranged a room upgrade for us (with a reasonable fee) and looked after us during our entire trip. His kindness and helpfulness made a real difference.
Also, thank you to Miss S. OZAWA, who helped us with a few personal requests to ensure we enjoyed our stay.
All the staff were polite and helpful throughout. We left feeling very well taken care of.
GGuest UserThe room is small and the location is remote, but the hotel scenery is really great! The hotel restaurant needs to be booked in advance, and there are no convenience stores nearby, and the restaurant is also far away. Remember to book a restaurant when you check in, otherwise you will have to go hungry. The hotel does not have Chinese service, and English communication is a bit difficult. The hotel's public bathing is free, and there are open-air bath seats. It was windy and rainy on the day I went there, and it was super cold. It was very comfortable to bathe. The location of the men's and women's bathrooms will be swapped, so remember to look at the sign at the door and don't go the wrong way.
BBonnFacilities: Typical Marriott standard. I specifically booked a Japanese-Western style room to experience it, and indeed, the combination was a bit 'unusual'. The good thing is the tatami area can be used to store a lot of items!
Cleanliness: Tidy and clean.
Environment: Although many people complain about the 'hill' issue, since we took taxis up and down, I didn't feel the need to complain much. Walking up and down the slope without luggage can indeed be a bit tiring, but I just took it as exercise (I can understand other reviewers' complaints).
Service: Very good! We arrived at Shirahama Station around 8 PM, and there were no buses, so we had to wait for a taxi. It was raining and snowing, and no taxi came for a long time, leaving us shivering from the cold… I called the hotel to ask if they could pick us up, and the lady at the front desk quickly arranged for a colleague to pick us up from the station! I'm very grateful for their 'help in time of need'! (No charge) Also, the front desk reception, breakfast guidance, and greetings were all very warm and friendly 👍
A good stay overall!
HHaikuotiankongThe hotel's location is superb. From the room and the hot spring, you can see Hangqiao Rock. Soaking in the hot spring while watching the sunrise over the Pacific in the morning, and enjoying the starry sky at night, was a truly wonderful experience. The hotel's breakfast and dinner were of good quality, and they provided a shuttle service to and from the train station. My only dissatisfaction was that the Ctrip confirmation stated that all three meals were included, but the hotel only provided two, which didn't match my Ctrip order.
11356417****The rooms are spacious, but the hotel is quite old, so the facilities are outdated. However, because there are indoor and outdoor hot springs, many locals stay there on weekends, and the lobby bar offers complimentary snacks and drinks, making it good value overall. However, the hotel's location is remote, and there aren't many restaurants nearby, making it very inconvenient if you're not traveling by car.
GGuest UserOur stay at Fukuchi-In was amazing. We slept in a traditional japanese room and had a delicious dinner and breakfast in another incredibly beautiful room, shared with other guests.
We attended the morning prayers and enjoyed the indoor and outdoor onsens.
There was heating in the room :)
RRita0729We booked a twin room in a Western-style house for our wedding anniversary, and they gave us a fantastic spot with a great view. They also gifted us two cute coasters. The location is super convenient, close to everything. I'm not sure about the onsen, but my husband said it was excellent. I was very satisfied with the room; every detail was well thought out. The Chinese-speaking staff member was also very lovely. It's just a small road away from Shirarahama Beach, making transportation easy. The breakfast was a decent buffet as well. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was at checkout. It was drizzling, and the staff actually made us drag our own luggage to the bus without offering help or even an umbrella. This really felt like a big disconnect from what you'd expect from a well-established brand like Sanrakuso and Japanese service in general.
