We stayed here as the mid-point stop on our way to Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon. It is true that because it’s one of the larger hotels in the area, it is used by large tour groups, but that did not interfere with our stay at all. It is a roadside hotel, don’t expect any luxuries, but perfect for a one or two night stay. The rooms are very spacious and clean (because it’s a busy hotel, your room may not be ready before check-in time). The restaurant is large and they were able to accommodate us with no problem for dinner, and their breakfast buffet (included in the rate) is fantastic. It also has a great view. The location is great, close to Dyrholaey, Vik and Reynsfjara (black sand beach). Pro-tip: if you have dirty laundry, they will do it for you for about $25 per bag regardless of the size. I thought it was expensive so didn’t do it, and regretted it - everywhere else was either more expensive or didn’t offer the service at all. The staff works so hard - I saw the same person cleaning my room helping out at the restaurant, and everyone was very pleasant.

malgré un lieu sympathique et un personnel accueillant, nous avons vécus une mésaventure qui nous a laissé un gout amer. Coincé à l'extérieur de l'hôtel a notre retour de notre chasses aux aurores boréales suite a une coupure d'électricité. nous sommes rester environ 30 minutes dehors sans pouvoirs joindre personne. heureusement une cliente de l'hôtel nous a remarquée et a fini par nous ouvrir. une fois à l'intérieur j'ai essayé à plusieurs reprise le numéro qui était disponible à l'accueil mais rien à faire nous resté dans le noir. Au matin nous avons demander au personnel de nous faire rentrer en contact avec la direction, qui n'a pas daigner se montrer. au delà de l'inconfort occasionné cela pose un problème de sécurité majeur. en effet la porte électrique qui ne fonctionne pas lors des coupures de courants est indiqué comme une sortie de secours. nous déconseillons ce lieu.

Hotel Katla is located a few miles outside Vik. There is a central building that houses the restaurant and a number of separate buildings with guest rooms. There is an outside hot tub and a small lake. The rooms are good quality and spacious. The breakfast room is large and the breakfast was fine although we often had wait for items that had run out to be topped up. There is plenty of parking on site.

The apartment was more spacious than we imagined, more than enough room for 2 adults and 2 children. Very clean and the laundry room was an extra bonus. Location was directly on 1 walking distance to restaurants, grocery store, black sand beach, etc. staff was very helpful even when we had a late check in. I’d highly recommend this place as a stop over between Golden Circle and Glacier Lagoon!

Our family of 4 wanted to stay close to the Black Sand Beach, and make our own meals, so we decided to stay at the Puffin Hostel. The hostel is an older building, and has everything on the 1st floor; dining with plenty of seating, kitchen with a tall refrigerator & a couple of ovens with stove tops, sinks, separated showers & bathrooms. The room we had was on the 2nd floor (1st floor was common areas), and a small water closet was next to our room. In our room was hot (a window can be opened), and 2 bunk beds with towels and linen are present. Not many sockets on the wall, but we were prepared with double usb phone chargers. A grocery store is nearby & gas station (No man pump) & the Lava Show was a 5 minute walk from the hostel. Puffin hostel is in a good location, has a normal road (no gravel/dirt), plenty of parking, so if traveling the Ring Road on a budget, and VIK is on the travel itinerary, then here for 1 night works.

Located at the beginning of the town is this quiet guesthouse, where we were able to rest very well thanks to its comfortable facilities. The room was very spacious, clean and with a comfortable space to work on the laptop for a while. The shared bathroom was very clean, I liked that a lot. It also has a shared kitchen and a large living room with large windows overlooking the town where you can relax for a while playing board games. The place offers breakfast for a separate cost that you have to book. It was a good idea to rest here to continue our trip along the Ring Road, I recommend it.

I loved this place so much, despite advance booking that was a bit vague. It's in a remote but easily accessible area, and I don't remember ever being in a place so quiet and peaceful. Truly. With tons of fresh, Icelandic air. We stayed here for two nights while exploring the glacier lagoons to the east, along with Dyrhólaey and Reynisfjara beaches (and tons of nesting puffins!!!), and it was perfect. Our room was really sweet, with a huge bathroom. The owner — who moved to the location from Reykjavik when she was 20, with her horses — said that one wing used to be cow stables. In 2008 she converted the facility to a guesthouse. Everything was immaculate, with the traditional Icelandic custom of not wearing shoes inside — slippers were offered. We enjoyed a simple dinner there on our first night, with a choice of either chicken fingers or fried fish with fries and a salad (make a reservation). This was a huge convenience, because we arrived around 6 p.m. tired and not excited about venturing out to Vik, which the owner said was really busy at the time, with long waits at restaurants. Breakfasts were fine, with basic buffet items (cereals, cold cuts and cheese, hard-boiled eggs, various breads and jams, yogurt). The dining area, with windows all around, allows for great views. Despite what some online reviews said, we found the staff to be super friendly and accommodating. There's a nice sitting area with toys for children and an alcove with a small table and chairs for a mini-retreat area. I highly recommend this place — during our two-week vacation, this was our only ”guesthouse,” and it was fabulous. We felt very at home, even though we were just passing through.

We really enjoyed our stay here. It’s quiet, only about 7 rooms. The girl working when we arrived is just the nicest and so hardworking. She was a huge help the day we arrived running our drenched clothing through the dryer for us. We will be forever grateful for that. Rooms are very spacious and clean. It’s sorta middle ground, not a fancy place by any means, but also a step above basic. Breakfast was lovely and included freshly scrambled eggs. They have great blackout curtains for blocking the never setting Iceland sun. There did seem to be a bit of a funky drain smell in the bathroom at times that wafted. Location was great for getting to Vik, black sand beaches, glacier hike, etc.

The bedrooms were well equipped but way too hot on a sunny day. Be aware that the rooms have no locks and there is no place within the shared rooms to lock up your belongings, although there are lockers in the hallways. The bar has nice but expensive drinks. Surprisingly not social for a hostel with a bar - there were a lot of families and groups seemingly staying.

One night reservation. Unfortunately our flight was cancelled for 2 consecutive days. First day no problem to change the date of the reservation for the following day, but the second one when we were not able to fly to Iceland they didn´t answer our mails not even the possibility of refund o store the credit for the near future. It is true that when we requested the invoice the send us inmediately for us to claim the airline. Vacation lost and realised that people is unsupportive but greedy Reserva de una noche, por desgracia nuestro vuelo fue cancelado durante 2 días. El primero no tuvieron ningún inconveniente en cambiarnos la reserva al día siguiente, pero el segundo cuando ya no íbamos a poder viajar a Islandia después de la segunda cancelación, ni siquiera respondieron a nuestros mensajes de petición de reembolso o de crédito para usar en un futuro próximo. Eso sí, solicitamos factura y la enviaron enseguida para poder hacer la reclamación por compensación a la compañía aérea. Vacaciones perdidas y encima te das cuenta que la gente es muy poco solidaria pero sí avariciosa

提前告知我是honeymoon trip，因為對象睡覺容易被驚心，想要安靜的房間。然後被安排到走廊最深處超大超大的一套房 巨巨巨開心。感謝老闆的貼心 躺着看窗外的日落 很滿足的一次住宿。衞生也可以 早餐廳比較大，自助的品類很豐富了！是我吃過最豐盛的一頓三星級民宿的早飯了！ 值得安利！

First day no problem to change the date of the reservation for the following day, but the second one when we were not able to fly to Iceland they didn´t answer our mails not even the possibility of refund o store the credit for the near future. It is true that when we requested the invoice the send us inmediately for us to claim the airline. Vacation lost and realised that people is unsupportive but greedy Reserva de una noche, por desgracia nuestro vuelo fue cancelado durante 2 días. El primero no tuvieron ningún inconveniente en cambiarnos la reserva al día siguiente, pero el segundo cuando ya no íbamos a poder viajar a Islandia después de la segunda cancelación, ni siquiera respondieron a nuestros mensajes de petición de reembolso o de crédito para usar en un futuro próximo. Eso sí, solicitamos factura y la enviaron enseguida para poder hacer la reclamación por compensación a la compañía aérea. Vacaciones perdidas y encima te das cuenta que la gente es muy poco solidaria pero sí avariciosa

I loved this place so much, despite advance booking that was a bit vague. It's in a remote but easily accessible area, and I don't remember ever being in a place so quiet and peaceful. Truly. With tons of fresh, Icelandic air. We stayed here for two nights while exploring the glacier lagoons to the east, along with Dyrhólaey and Reynisfjara beaches (and tons of nesting puffins!!!), and it was perfect. Our room was really sweet, with a huge bathroom. The owner — who moved to the location from Reykjavik when she was 20, with her horses — said that one wing used to be cow stables. In 2008 she converted the facility to a guesthouse. Everything was immaculate, with the traditional Icelandic custom of not wearing shoes inside — slippers were offered. We enjoyed a simple dinner there on our first night, with a choice of either chicken fingers or fried fish with fries and a salad (make a reservation). This was a huge convenience, because we arrived around 6 p.m. tired and not excited about venturing out to Vik, which the owner said was really busy at the time, with long waits at restaurants. Breakfasts were fine, with basic buffet items (cereals, cold cuts and cheese, hard-boiled eggs, various breads and jams, yogurt). The dining area, with windows all around, allows for great views. Despite what some online reviews said, we found the staff to be super friendly and accommodating. There's a nice sitting area with toys for children and an alcove with a small table and chairs for a mini-retreat area. I highly recommend this place — during our two-week vacation, this was our only ”guesthouse,” and it was fabulous. We felt very at home, even though we were just passing through.
