My family and I stayed recently at the Ikea Hotel en route back home to Karlstad after a trip to Denmark. I must admit, we orginially booked this for a bit of fun, to stay in the only Ikea hotel in the world. We are so glad we did. On arrival our room was not ready due to cleaning issues, but the staff were very friendly and offered us some snacks and drinks as we waited. There was definately a sense of Ikea's unique friendly, welcoming ethos here that has made the company such a success around the world. Our room was a family room with 2 bunk beds (everything Ikea I might add) and everything was very clean. The bed was VERY comfortable and I personally had one of the best nights sleep on our holiday! The hotel has 2 communal areas where you can use a kitchen and living space to prep meals and relax. There is a microwave and owen but not hob, so be aware of this. It was nice to sit and relax and talk with other families visiting the hotel. There is a gym and a laundry room if you need these on your stay. The outdoor area has fresh berries and fruits which are available to pick and eat if you like. Breakfast was very good, with a wide selection of foods to choose from. My only complaint is that there is a kids play area just down from reception, which was very loud with unsupervised children screaming and throwing things at each other. My wife, walking with a glass of wine to the outdoor area, was ran into and it was a poor location for a play area. I would recommend this area is moved to another location. Overall, this is a really fantastic hotel and I would definately recommend staying here if you are looking for an alternative to a ”standard” hotel. All members of my family enjoyed staying here and if we were in the area again, we would definately stay here again. If you like Ikea and what they stand for, you will love this hotel.
