Mutian Time Designer Guesthouse, Dali | A poetic stay in a century-old Bai courtyard We’ve just returned from Dali, and the place we keep thinking about most is this hidden gem at the foot of Cangshan Mountain — Mutian Time Designer Guesthouse. Oriental aesthetics in every corner The guesthouse is converted from a century-old traditional Bai courtyard house. With its grey-tiled roofs, white walls, and beautifully carved wooden structures, the space carries a quiet sense of history and elegance. The courtyard features water elements, stone paths, and blue and yellow lanterns that create beautiful layers of light and shadow during the day. At night, the soft lighting outlines the architecture and gives the entire space a warm, cinematic atmosphere. The common areas are equally charming, with a stone-built fireplace, vintage furniture, and art pieces thoughtfully placed throughout. The design blends traditional Eastern aesthetics with modern touches, creating a space that feels both timeless and refined. Comfort with thoughtful details Our room was spacious, bright, and very comfortable. A stone feature wall behind the bed, paired with soft bedding and warm lighting, created a subtle sense of “wild luxury” while still feeling cosy and relaxed. Opening the window reveals the courtyard view — waking up to birdsong in the morning and watching the lanterns glow in the evening adds a special charm to the stay. Warm and attentive service From booking to check-out, the hosts were welcoming and attentive. Upon arrival, they introduced the history of the house and highlighted the design features of the property, and were happy to recommend nearby restaurants and local spots to explore. The afternoon tea was beautifully presented, with fresh fruit and delicate snacks — perfect for enjoying a slow afternoon in the courtyard. Breakfast included some local Bai-style flavours, simple yet delicious, and a lovely way to start the day. A peaceful location near the old town The guesthouse is tucked away in Zhongyin Village at the foot of Cangshan Mountain, about a 15-minute drive from Dali Ancient Town. It offers a quiet retreat away from the crowds while still being conveniently close to the main attractions. Surrounded by village life and forested hills, the air feels fresh and full of the scent of nature. More than just a place to stay, Mutian Time feels like a living piece of art. It brought a sense of calm and poetry to our trip to Dali. This stay was truly wonderful, offering a beautiful minimalist design that was both exceptionally clean and comfortable. The highlight was the stunning view of Lake Erhai, which made the atmosphere so peaceful. I was also very impressed by the hospitality; the owner and staff were incredibly helpful with local advice and even assisted in ordering delicious food for me. From the great breakfast to the sincere service, everything was perfect. PS. The cat is so cuteeeee

We love everything about this place. Lovely room with warm ambiance and it’s right over the waters. The view of the Erhai lake is even more beautiful…it’s amazing waking to this sight. The daily fruit tray offered local produce and all tastes ones too. Breakfast is a good spread as well. Definitely worth out time here! Location…it’s along the popular walking street and next to the 杨丽萍太阳宫艺术空间。

Lovely hosts. They offer pick up from the train station. They were extremely hospitable as well and gave plenty of good recommendations. the room was cozy, loved the fireplace next to the bath tub. The view, both in the morning and at night, was lovely! 20 mins car ride to the old town, but its always easy to get a cab! Highly recommend this place, the hosts rlly made the stay much more enjoyable.

We stayed here from 12–15 May during our honeymoon and decided to do our Yunnan trip entirely on our own. Dali was our first destination after landing in Kunming the night before, and it turned out to be the perfect start to our journey. Since our train arrived early at around 9:00 AM, I contacted the host a few days in advance to ask if an early check-in would be possible. Not only were they happy to accommodate our request, but they also kindly offered to pick us up from the station. Upon arrival, we were warmly welcomed by our host, Mei, who gave us a tour of the property after check-in. The hotel exceeded our expectations. The architecture is absolutely stunning, from the outside, it feels like staying in a beautiful traditional palace within the old town, while the interior is thoughtfully modernized with every comfort you could need. Our room was incredibly spacious, and we especially loved the heated bathroom floors and the bidet, which was a pleasant surprise. There is also a rooftop area where guests can enjoy a beautiful sunrise view. Breakfast was another highlight of our stay. Guests are given several options, and parts of the menu change daily, which kept things interesting. What we looked forward to most every morning was the amazing yogurt served with homemade rose jam, it was honestly the best we've ever had. We mentioned how much we loved it, and at the end of our stay, Mei surprised us with a jar to take home. Such a thoughtful gesture! Every evening, the hotel served a warm dessert, introducing us to flavors that were completely new yet delicious. We were also treated to a complimentary afternoon tea. To make our honeymoon even more special, Mei and her team surprised us with a personalized cake, which was incredibly touching. The location is very convenient, with several Muslim-friendly eateries within a 10-minute walk, as well as convenience stores nearby. What truly sets this place apart, however, is the hospitality. Out of all the accommodations we stayed at during our Yunnan trip, this was by far the best. Mei went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, constantly sharing recommendations, travel tips, and local insights to help us make the most of our time in Dali. We genuinely felt cared for throughout our stay. I would highly recommend this hotel, especially for honeymooners and newlyweds looking for a memorable and heartfelt experience. InsyaAllah, we will definitely return on our future trips to Dali.

Beautiful villa with easy access to food street. We had a pleasant stay and a nice warm dip in the double bathtub. They even make us coffee when we requested in the morning.

Penginapan yang sangat selesa dengan semua kemudahan yang diperlukan. Biliknya sangat baru, luas dan bersih. Katil yang selesa. Dalam jarak berjalan kaki ke bandar purba Da Li namun tenang pada waktu malam. Lidi bbq di sebelah adalah tempat yang mesti dicuba untuk makan malam lewat malam. Kakitangannya membantu dan mesra dan mengesyorkan hotpot cendawan yang lazat berdekatan. Mereka membawa kami ke hotel bersebelahan yang dimiliki oleh bos yang sama untuk bufet sarapan pagi yang lazat. Sudah tentu 5 Bintang. Amat disyorkan! 👍

There’s something special about this place—I felt it the moment I walked in. The staff didn't just greet us; they welcomed us like family. Every smile, every small gesture felt genuine, as if they truly cared about our stay. The interior took my breath away, rich with classic Chinese elegance, yet warm and inviting. You can feel the thought and care in every corner. And then, the view. I found myself just sitting in silence, taking it in, feeling completely at peace. This hotel isn't just beautiful, it's unforgettable. It’s one of a kind, and it touched my heart in a way I didn’t expect. I’m already looking forward to the day I can return.

I booked a two-night stay here and had high expectations for my vacation. However, the first thing that happened was an extremely uncomfortable check-in. Two female staff members were incredibly unfriendly; the hotel had no elevator, and there was no luggage porter. One staff member even insisted we carry our large luggage ourselves because the hotel didn't have an elevator. The free hot pot meal was only for the broth; the side dishes had to be ordered separately. We booked four rooms, but when my friend couldn't eat the spicy broth and asked for a different broth, we were charged extra. The hallway lights are turned off after 10:30 PM, so if you're returning late, you'll have to use your phone's flashlight to find your way. The photography service was also unsatisfactory. We had four rooms, but only two were photographed. I requested that the photographer let me go first and the other person take photos later after changing clothes, but the photographer was unhappy and insisted on taking photos at the same time. The photographer, in particular, did not have a friendly or open attitude, nor the manner of a professional service provider. Breakfast was delicious and suited our taste, but the staff were somewhat negligent in their service. We ordered our main course first but were served later, or they forgot to include the side dishes. On check-out day, the hotel scored points with the extremely enthusiastic assistance from a young man in a blue jacket (29/4). The staff member in the blue jacket was very professional, coordinating everything and seemingly understanding that I wasn't entirely satisfied with the hotel. He coordinated everything, from carrying our luggage from the room to the lobby to taking it to the taxi, working with the photographer, and even offering us complimentary tea as an apology and thank you for our stay. Overall, aside from the issues that affected our mood on the first day, the hotel was quite comfortable and clean, worthy of a vacation (although a bit far from the city center). If the hotel can address these shortcomings, I think this will be a wonderful experience for us. Best regards.
