"This charming B&B is run by locals and is set in a beautiful, traditional Bai ethnic house. Its location is superb, tucked away in an alley directly opposite the South Gate of the Ancient City. However, it can be a bit tricky to locate initially. The owner is incredibly welcoming and friendly; he even guided us to the correct address over the phone and helped us arrange parking. As a thoughtful gesture, he gave us a box of local flower cakes when we checked out. Stepping out of the B&B, you're immediately on a lively street packed with restaurants and shops, making everything incredibly convenient."

"My stayed at Yuntang Luxury Resort Hotel in Dali was fantastic. The hotel is located right in the heart of the ancient town, which makes it very convenient.
The room was big, clean, and very comfortable. The bed was soft, and everything looked nice. The staff were friendly and helped me with anything I needed.
The hotel is close to Erhai Gate and good places to eat. I had a quiet and relaxing time. I would love to stay there again."

They would greet us every time we enter, asking if we need anything to make our stay better.
The hotel service is amazing. For such an affordable price, we are given free breakfast,tea break and desserts were also offered every night.
Hotel also have a gym, massage chair and a pool.
Breakfast can be topped up for free if we do not feel full.
The hotel also offered free pick up from the railway station all the way to the hotel!

"Small hotel with a stunning view of the lake. A good 30-minute taxi ride from the old town.
The room was very modern and stylishly furnished. The room with a skylight was great, allowing us to wake up to natural light (the curtains only closed completely – at least with the switches). There was also voice control, but our Chinese wasn't up to the task.
The staff was super friendly and helpful. Thanks again!
And the Chinese breakfast was also very good.
We would definitely recommend the room. However, you have to know each other well, because the toilet/shower isn't really screened off.

"the hotel is beautiful both in the common areas and in the room itself. the room is spacious and the toilet is huge. we got an upgrade during our stay. hotel has an life so no worries about handling your luggage. there are a lot of food options nearby and it is just off the street from the old town. about 15min walk will get you to the main old town spot.
the breakfast was delicious. a selection of cooked food and you can order noodles at the main desk. simple afternoon tea with a light snack. we did not get to use the hanfu experience but it is a nice bonus."

"The room exceeded my expectations. On the first day, we stayed in a standard family room, but the owner, seeing our large family, kindly upgraded us for free to a deluxe family suite, so I decided to extend our stay for two more days.
I'd particularly like to mention Sushe's courtyard. We were on the third floor, which featured a charming little balcony. Waking up in the early morning and opening the bedroom door, the majestic, verdant Cangshan Mountain, shrouded in swirling mist, immediately filled my sight. It felt as if the clouds and mist were so close, you could reach out and touch them.
The air was crisp and fresh. Cangshan Mountain, the ancient city, and the lively human scene were all laid out before my eyes. Of all my experiences in Dali, this early morning glimpse was surprisingly the most captivating, and absolutely worth every moment.
The room also came with a tea set and quality tea leaves. I brewed a cup, sat amidst the stunning scenery, and savored Dali's unique, mellow ambiance...
The fourth floor also boasts a spacious rooftop terrace. It's adorned with succulents, a large square table, a swing, and colorful lights – it would be absolutely wonderful for a lively get-together with friends in the evening."

ZZanjiadesanbaoThis hotel is absolutely stunning. In bustling Dali, finding such an oasis of tranquility is truly a rare gem. Even just unwinding on the balcony is pure bliss. The hotel also has an incredibly adorable, well-behaved, chubby cat! I absolutely adored my stay here. I only wish I had booked for longer; I'll definitely extend my stay next time. It completely surpassed all my expectations.
During peak season, I'd highly recommend avoiding Shuanglang – it's too noisy and congested. Stay here instead; it feels like you have Erhai Lake all to yourself. Seriously, you *must* book this hotel (and for more than a couple of nights if you can!), you won't regret it!

GGuest UserI stayed in a very cost-effective homestay in Dali. The environment is very beautiful. There is a hydrangea garden that is very suitable for taking pictures. There is also a tea room. You can drink tea in the afternoon and look at the bottomless sea on the terrace. The room facilities are very good, equipped with a Dyson hair dryer. The toiletries should also be branded and easy to use. There are also electric cars available to go around the sea nearby, recommended!

GGuest UserWe communicate through WeChat with the host prior to the stay and he kindly kindly helped to arrange a pick up from the railway station upon our arrival. He then waited to welcomed us at the drop-off point and assisted with our luggages. We were grateful that we got a free upgrade and upon entering the room, we were blown away by the scenic view of erhai lake! Even though the room is located in a condo apartment area, we had no problems putting a pin on the location when booking didi or *******. The bathroom/toilet amenities were one of the best that we’ve enjoyed throughout the trip as it not only comes with a huge bathtub (which was more than enough for 2 adults to enjoy together), but it also has modern furnishings such as automated bidet, massage spa shower, towel dryer rack and also disposables toiletries and towels 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

GGuest UserWhile it's a bit far from the old city, it's conveniently located close to both the airport and the train station. The ocean view here is unparalleled, and it doesn't suffer from the noise typical of places right along the coastline. You can easily order takeout right to your door. A big plus is that you can even rent electric scooters within the complex. On the downside, the interior decor could be a bit more refined. The facilities are slightly better than typical guesthouses, but the quality of the beds and pillows could still be improved. Overall, I'm quite satisfied. It's particularly well-suited for family trips, offering more convenience and space than a hotel.

While the room was a bit on the smaller side, it was fully equipped with all the necessary amenities. The shower had excellent water pressure and a consistent, comfortable temperature, and both the bath towels and bedding were wonderfully soft and comfortable. A generous and delicious breakfast was served daily, along with complimentary afternoon tea. As a thoughtful gesture, the staff even prepared a box of pastries for us to enjoy on our journey when we checked out. Our children loved their stay so much they didn't want to leave! We'll definitely choose to stay here again on our next visit.

XXueyingqingfengI absolutely adored this guesthouse; it truly exudes a wonderful Mediterranean vibe! The amenities are, of course, excellent, but what truly sets it apart is their incredibly thoughtful and attentive service. They offer daily complimentary afternoon tea, a complimentary late-night sweet soup, and on-demand butler-style service, which made us truly feel at home. The in-room toiletries are herbal essential oil products, and the mini-bar was always fully stocked with thoughtfully prepared water, beverages, and snacks. It was so comfortable that we ended up not leaving the guesthouse for two days, simply lounging and unwinding! Utterly comfortable! Highly recommended!

It is also close to the ancient city, Longqi Wharf and other places, and the transportation is convenient. The room is spacious and bright, the sound insulation effect is good, the view is wide, and the room can see the view of the Bohai Corridor. Suitable for daze and taking pictures. The hotel owner and warm and friendly, there is a parking lot shuttle bus pick-up service, providing itinerary planning, attraction recommendations and car rental and other intimate help. The homestay is quiet in the middle of noisy, the surrounding environment is quiet, suitable for like to relax and enjoy nature. There is not a lot of traffic around, and the noise of excessive commercialization is avoided. All in all, it was a great experience.

LLixiaobaoI was initially concerned that the Xiaomei King Room, which lacked air conditioning, would be hot and small. However, it was nothing of the sort – it was absolutely stunning, and the service was impeccable! My elderly companion did mention that the noise from duvets being washed at night made it difficult for her to fall asleep. Despite this, overall, we were very pleased. I had planned to visit the wetland park for the sunset, but a staff member advised there was no need, as we could enjoy the view directly from their property! They even provided a complimentary farewell gift upon our departure!

AAnonymous User1. **Check-in Area:** The check-in counter, or front desk, was quite shabby. The computer keyboard was practically caked in grime, and don't even get me started on the sofa next to it – it looked very unhygienic.
2. **Dining:** The breakfast area was a bit cramped, with just four small tables by the street. If you're a party of more than two, you'd have to sit separately, or you might even have to stand and wait for a table. The coffee, however, was good. I only had breakfast once: a cold quinoa salad (see Photo 6) served with bread that had an overpowering artificial creamer flavor. I had been looking forward to the rice noodles for the next day, but serving didn't start until 8:30 AM, which was far too late for my rumbling stomach. Early risers and those who prefer hot meals should seriously consider other options or make alternative arrangements.
3. **Room (2nd floor) - Noise Issues:** Don't even think about getting any sleep at night. After 11 PM, there was still noise along the street, along with the clanging of the garbage truck. (Seriously, I'd strongly advise against staying in the Old Town.) The next day, it started pouring before dawn, and the sound of the heavy rain kept me awake as well.
4. **Room - Facility Issues:** The room I stayed in was supposedly the quietest in the entire hotel. It featured a large bathtub and a bathroom where the toilet and shower area lacked wet/dry separation. Unable to deal with the wet floor, I decided to shower in the bathtub. That's when I discovered Problem #1: the glass partition was completely transparent, with no curtain or frosted glass. The staff member claimed this was 'design.' Then came Fatal Problem #2: the bathtub had no running water, haha! 😄
5. **Room - Odor Issues:** Upon entering, there was a strong musty smell. The staff claimed it was due to 'raw wood,' but it's been 8 years and it still smells like that? Quite amusing.
6. **Staff (Pre-Check-in):** Before I even checked in, they asked me to cancel my booking on the platform and pay them privately for a discounted rate. I have this in writing. This is definitely a huge red flag, and I'm surprised they even dared to suggest it.
7. **Staff (General):** The individuals themselves were nice enough, but I was surprised to find that all the 'Jixiashan' staff were quite young, without uniforms, and seemingly without direct supervision, which gave a very disorganized and casual impression.
8. **Housekeeping:** I was quite satisfied with the housekeeping. Seeing the clean duvet and towels gave me peace of mind (P.S. the pillows were also comfortable). The hotel's facilities are very old; no matter how clean the bathroom tiles were, they still looked run-down, compounded by the dim lighting. Therefore, I feel the housekeeping staff here really have a tough job.
9. **Building Structure:** One morning, during a heavy downpour, when I opened my 2nd-floor room door, the entrance was essentially flooded up to my heels. It was quite a feat that the water didn't spread into the room. At night, there were no lights, so I had to grope my way back to the room along the dark corridor. It would be quite difficult for someone who doesn't remember their way (see Photos 1-2).
10. **Hotel Amenities:** One night, I heard the guest next door return, unable to open their door with the key, and had to call a staff member for help. They chatted for a bit outside the door before the staff member finally told the guest a 'trick': 'The key needs to be inserted a certain way, and the lock has a particular mechanism...' That's quite a struggle – needing a special technique just to get back to your room!
11. **Minor Details:** The room key had a very large, bulky leather tag attached to it. Absolutely no consideration for travelers on long journeys with limited luggage space. Who would want to carry such a bulky thing around?
I originally had high hopes for the 'Jixiashan' brand. When I was in Shangri-La, I heard their Meili store had a collaboration with Kolon, which made me think they had good taste. This Dali Ancient City location is their first store, but it turned out to be such a low standard. Given the daily rate, I guess I understand why. This particular store cannot be found on 'Jixiashan's' mini-program; it's categorized under 'Wang Shenme Chuan Qu Le'.

TT.W.LBooked the family room at courtyard level as I had elderly and wanted an accommodation which is easy to access. I also did not want to be hoisting luggages up and down and over cobbled streets in the old town and somewhere along the city wall so it is easy to start our tour of the sights around Dali in the morning.
Room: Simple efficient clean layout with open concept. Rooms are relatively new. Sink area is located outside the bathroom which is good. The beds are hard in my opinion but elder felt the bed was comfortable. Bottled water was provided everyday (left outside our door). Room Temperature control was ok and the hot water for the shower heated up quick and could maintain at a stable level which is a plus unlike some other hotels in Yunnan.
There is flight of 3-4 steps to room which is manageable for our elder as the room is slightly raised above the courtyard. We had an early check-in as the room was ready. The staff helped us move the luggages to our room. You could also book the entire courtyard for larger groups. The owner is building additional new rooms in the annex but the construction happens during the day and it is not noisy as most guests would be out.
Location:
It is near the South Gate (there is a local market nearby check the maps or ask the owner) and our local driver could stop right outside our accommodation.
We didn’t get breakfast from the bnb as there were food shops offering noodles, congee and fried dumplings around that open early at 7am. You can also make your way to the local market near the gate. You could also go up the South Gate for free to catch the sunrise or sunset view.
Touring around Dali
If you can comms in Chinese, you could message the owner ahead to assist to arrange for a car transfer from Dali Fengyi Airport or the Dali Railway station to the BnB. It cost RMB50 for us from the Railway station to the BnB. You could also arrange with him for a day driver to take you around the sight seeing places around Dali /Erhai Lake, Mt Cang or a driver to send you to Lijiang. We felt was more efficient and relaxing with an elder. It took ~3h drive instead of travelling south to the Dali train station to ride the train to Lijiang and finding a cab from Lijiang railway to the old Lijiang ancient city.
You could also easily catch a Didi or a cab which could be cheaper. A cab/car ride to the 3 Chong Sen Temple pagodas was about 10rmb for 3-4pax which is comparable to waiting for Bus 4 which cost 3rmb per pax.
