"A very pleasant stay at the Pipa Old Inn. A very historical building, though the place is equipped with all necessary modern amenities save for an elevator. Fortunately the staff very helpful assisted us with lugging up our heavy luggage to our room on the 3rd floor. Very beautifully decorated and strategically located in the heart of Datong Ancient City. Very pleasant and helpful staff who helped us plan and arrange our trips around Datong though sadly, they weren't very proficient in English (but that's common in China). Free breakfast was included in our stay and there was a decent spread though the menu didn't change much over our stay there save for one or two vegetable dishes being rotated. Overall definitely worth a return trip and stay in Datong Ancient City."

"Two nights at Laochengenguan was absolutely fantastic! First, it was spotless and well-equipped. Second, the breakfast was abundant and delicious, even coming with fruit. Third, the service was truly top-notch; their patience made us feel right at home! (I booked two nights, but needed to switch rooms in between, which shows how popular this place is. However, on the morning of the second day, we were rushing to Hengshan Hanging Temple and completely forgot about the room change. The owner actually called to check if we’d like to move, as the new room was already cleaned. Of course, we happily agreed! This way, it didn't disrupt our sightseeing, and we could rest as soon as we returned! A big thank you to the owner once again! Staying at Laochengenguan is perfect for visiting attractions and shopping."

"If I were to rate the room alone, this guesthouse exceeded my expectations. Even though I booked a special offer room in the basement, there were absolutely no issues with ventilation or natural light. On the contrary, on a warm winter day, bathed in the soft glow of the lights, it felt like my own cozy little haven. If I visit again, I'd still choose this place. (The lady at the front desk was beautiful and kind-hearted, always willing to help and answered every question with a smile, which truly warmed my heart.) Now for the downsides: breakfast was served about a 10-minute walk from the guesthouse, which isn't a huge deal. However, the breakfast service was a world apart from the guesthouse's excellent service. The staff didn't even lift their heads when we entered or left, completely engrossed in their TV show. And they didn't provide Wi-Fi, which I consider a very basic service, right? Also, could you please avoid serving rotten fruit to guests? The breakfast quality was more about presentation than substance; it looked good for photos, but the taste left much to be desired."

"Everything was ok. Room was clean, with nice views and as depicted in the web. Staff is kind and helpful. You can ask them for advice to visit the main hotpots in Datong. But bear in mind that this is an b&b with no proper reception desk. You need to contact the property in advance, or go to the liquor shop next door otherwise. The hotel does not provide real towels but disposable towels (made of paper)."

"I booked a special offer room, so it wasn't very spacious. In the evenings, they provided sleep-inducing milk and fruit. Breakfast wasn't included, but they thoughtfully brought us some local Datong breakfast specialties in the morning anyway. When we checked out, they even gave us Datong vinegar and millet as a gift. The ladies at the front desk and the housekeeping staff were all wonderful. I regret not remembering the housekeeper's name, but the front desk staff I remember were Meng Nan and Wang Caiyun."

"A truly wonderful stay! I absolutely adored the traditional courtyard house. The owner's meticulous attention to detail was evident in the decor, with all the furniture crafted from genuine solid mahogany. The room amenities gave a very homely feel, featuring a solid wood bed, wardrobe, table and chairs, and a daybed. The toilet and shower were separate, and it even had a smart toilet. Everything was impeccably clean. Breakfast was fantastic! We received an incredibly warm welcome, making us feel like family."

The bedding was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a sound night's sleep. Even more surprisingly, the soundproofing in the room was exceptional. There was no need to worry about being disturbed by the sounds from the book bar or the street, truly achieving a peaceful oasis amidst the hustle and bustle. 💖 Thoughtful Service, as Warm as Coming Home The front desk lady had a sweet smile and proactively introduced the hotel's features and nearby dining options during check-in. Any questions I had were answered promptly, which made me feel very much at ease. This stay completely exceeded my expectations. It's not just a place to rest your feet, but a healing space where one can slow down and enjoy a moment of tranquility. I highly recommend it to all book lovers, coffee enthusiasts, and friends who appreciate aesthetics! The next time I visit this city, this will definitely be my top choice."

"It’s really really nice room, it’s really clean, and even there’s no windows in our room but we didn’t care much because it was very comfortable. Thank you to the girls at the front desk who were so helpful and kind! They were very accommodating. This was one of the most value-for-money hotels we’ve stayed in. Location is great too. "The owner upgraded our room, which was fully equipped, clean, and tidy. The disposable bath towels were a thoughtful touch. The service was warm and attentive; they even helped us with our luggage. The recommended restaurants in the old town were all excellent. The knife-cut noodles for breakfast tasted even better than those in other restaurants, and the side dishes prepared by the lady were very much to our liking. Overall, a great experience. I'd definitely come back next time."

"I had the most beautiful time in Datong, and a big part of that was due to my stay at Renyi Inn! First of all, the host is so kind and friendly. She always greets you with a smile. She even brought fresh watermelon for free everyday to my room :) more importantly, the whole hotel as well as the room we're super clean. The interior was so beautifully traditional. And it's only a 3min walk away from the major temple and all the main shopping streets. If you stay in Datong (which you definitely should, it has so much to offer), stay at Renyi Inn!"
