The location is superb, room was clean, spacious and with a nice balcony. The room provided all you need on a leisure trip.
The only downside was it was super complicated and time consuming to contact the hostel for entrance pin, check-in procedure and check-in number. We asked the front desk receptionist of our previous hotel to call the hostel number stated on trip.com booking confirmation email in morning, but no one picked up; called again at 3pm, and the hostel hotline said the number was wrong and referred us to call another number. If we did not have the assistance from a Japanese local receptionist from another hotel, I dont think we could get the entrance pin and check-in procedure information smoothly.
I recommend this hostel to Japanese local, or tourists with a Japanese mobile number to make calls/able to find assistance from Japanese local people.
The staff was helpful and speaks english during my stay. The room size is justifiable for the price it was offered. Walking distance to Tenmonkan district.

Cemerlang
PPengguna Tanpa NamaWe love this hotel so much. The breakfast is so yummy and the bed is very comfortable too. The hot spring is superb. The view is beautiful even if rainy weather.
PPengguna TetamuThis is my second time stay. The hotel is very new, rooms are spotlessly clean, great shower, comfortable beddings, high quality service. There is a gym and spa which is good for those who like using the facilities. It’s a bit far from JR though but they provide free shuttle. I haven’t used the shuttle service since we’re driving, so the location is not a problem. Simply liked everything. Highly recommended.
HHong AStayed at this hotel for 2 nights and it was lovely. Check in and out was smooth. The hotel is very nice, clean and looks luxurious. Sited right next to Tenmonkan street and 2 min walk to tenmonkan tram station. Donki and Lawson right next door too. Location is very convenient. Room is abit small but we knew this beforehand. Plenty of thoughtful amenities in the room which we really appreciate. Great stay and will come again next time!
PPengguna Tanpa NamaHuge bath tub within the room. Slightly bigger room than japan's average because of that but living area is smaller as a result. There is a sofa in this room but that takes up the space for luggage. Overall pretty good. Just opppsite the jr station with underground access. Sakurajima was covered by clouds when I was there.
PPengguna Tanpa NamaBest hotel choice for location. Right in the centre of Tenmonkan. Plenty of food options and shopping. Even the airport shuttle stops directly at the hotel front (50m). It is walking distance (20min) to Kagoshima-chuo JR station, but if you choose tram or bus, the stop is also 100m away from the hotel. Setback is only the bath amenities as shaving foam, face wash and lotion is not provided (make sure you bring your own). Public bath is ok, has a sauna which is good. Check-in and out process is fully machine automated with a luggage storage section too at the side. Very easy. Breakfast service staff is very good, only four breakfast set choices if you purchase it as part of your room but quality is very good with local taste. I suggest you try at least once the breakfast if you stay here.
RRoosmarijWe had a good stay at Grand Base Kagoshima Chuo. Check-in is very smooth as long as you send them a scan of your passport before you come. The location is very convenient, close to the train station and a big mall. We took the tram into town a few times and the limousine bus to the airport also leaves from close by. The room was clean and soundproof. Nice bathroom with a function to dry your clothes. The only downside was that the hallway light comes on when you go to the toilet, which means that in the night others might wake up. We asked for our bins to be emptied on a daily basis, because they were tiny. You can reach customer service through a tablet in the room. The price quality was very good for us (we booked early).
YYomingsssThe location is amazing. It is literally IN TRNMONKAN, across the street is the tram station that will take you to Kagoshima station and other places as well of course. Along the street is the bus station, it’s very very convenient. However, since it’s next to the tram station it can be slightly noisy but if you bring an earplug that should cancel the boise from the train. The room is small but good enough for a solo traveller like me. There’s no staff to attend you. Everything is self service. You check in and check out using the check in machine. It’s very convenient! Instructions are clear and straightforward. Enjoyed my stay here!
PPengguna TetamuHv washing machine, oven, two separate toilet, and its big and clean.
The view of the hotel is brilliant too with sunset and city view.
The staff is nice too, helped us to keep the luggage when checkin time not yet reached and carry it to our room when we are not in the hotel
PPengguna TetamuI loved staying here!! It had such a great communal vibe to it. One of my favorite memories from traveling Japan is sitting at the low tables in the common area, eating a convenience store dinner and watching baseball on the tv. I was only there 3 nights but it felt like it would’ve been an easy place to settle into for a longer stay. There was a fridge and kitchen, two showers & toilets, laundry, luggage storage, lockers, etc. Very close to the train station. Rooms were clean, I felt like the staff did a great job on the upkeep. I would definitely recommend you stay here. The only thing to be aware of is that the mattresses are really thin so the sleeping surface feels really hard.
KKevinWould definitely stay at Nanshukan again! It is a business type hotel offering all the basics. Great fir solo travelers, couples etc. the room was spacious and clean.
It is centrally located so it’s within walking distance of several sightseeing spots! The ferry terminal to Sakurajima is about a fifteen minute walk! The airport bus stop is about ten minutes .
But fir me the breakfast was amazing. You can choose between WASHOKU( Japanese style) or YOSHOKU( western style). I chose the washoku and it was an amazing assortment of little breakfast goodies with hot miso soup and black pork shabu shabu , too!
Great way to start s day!
Come and enjoy a night or two at Nanshukan!
