"Hotel Casa San Rafael is a beautiful hotel with excellent and attentive staff. The hotel is very secure, rooms are very clean and decorated very nicely. Plenty of hot water in the shower. Beds were a bit firm for me but I got used to it after a few nights. As we were in a room that faced the street it was somewhat noisy. The constant chirp from the cross walk light woke me several times. The floors are beautiful old wood, but creaky. the breakfast was delicious and every morning hot eggs of some sort were served with bread, fruit, fresh juice and tea/coffee. Having never been to Cuenca, I was a bit worried about safety and it was also Carnival weekend. We never felt unsafe at all and our balcony overlooked the parade! There were many restaurants, cafes, stores, banks, pharmacies and attractions within a few minutes walking distance. It was a wonderful week in Cuenca and I would stay there again."

"Gran Columbia Suites was fantastic! My boyfriend and I traveled to Cuenca for what many would call a "dental" vacation. I needed a crown. He required more work. Since I'd been to Cuenca once before, I had seen the Gran Columbia and knew it would fit our needs for a stay of at least 17 nights. We stayed in a Jr. Suite which had no windows to the outside streets but windows to the interior courtyard. It was very quiet. The suite had everything we needed: a kitchen with refrigerator, gas cooktop, sink and eating area. The living area was comprised of a sofa and entertainment center with television - which provided plenty of English language programs. The bathroom shower always provided plenty of hot water and the separate toilet area was surrounded by obscured glass. The bedroom had plenty of storage, a small safe and a comfortable bed. In a small area just off the lobby is a 2 washer, 2 dryer laundry. The machines are free to use for guests. While waiting in the lobby for your laundry to finish, step through a door to an adjacent panderia for pastries and coffee. Be sure to get there early as this panderia sells out quite quickly. It's that good! Besides the great proximity to Parque Calderon in the center of Cuenca's Historical district, probably the best thing about Gran Columbia Suites is the staff. We arrived late in the evening and were allowed entry by an on-duty security guard. I'm so sorry that I don't remember his name, Matteo assisted us with many of our needs, telephoning for taxi service, arranging for our trip and guide (Gustavo) to Ingapirca, arranging an appointment in Banos to Piedra de Agua for thermal baths and much more. Sophia was also another superb team member of Gran Columbia Suites. She also assisted with taxi service and helped us when needed. Isabel, the General Manager, has a great team. Her enthusiasm and love for the property is quite obvious. We will be returning in September and look forward to our stay in the beautiful city of Cuenca and seeing the same wonderful people at Gran Columbia Suites."
