The hotel was super beautiful and clean! Service by the staff were very attentive and polite, which made our stay super enjoyable. The butler service that helped to bring our clothes for laundering and sending our dry clothes back to the room was an added bonus. They also delivered a light breakfast to the room when we requested. The only thing we didn’t like was the 7am-10am breakfast at the first floor dining space as the egg tart was hard and the cake wasn’t very good. However, it’s just a minor thing, didn’t ruin our hotel stay. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay near Kunming Railway Station next time :)

We stayed at Kunming PAPMAN Hotel Wanda for our first night in Kunming, and honestly, it was by far the best hotel of our entire stay. We only stayed for one night and didn’t have a chance to explore the surrounding area, but the hotel itself was exceptional. The hotel occupies two floors within a larger building, so there isn’t direct access to the hotel lobby from the ground floor. However, the hotel contacted us in advance with clear instructions on where to meet them at the car park. The staff came down to meet us, helped with all our luggage and brought us up to the lobby. This could have been an inconvenience, but the level of service completely made up for it. The staff were incredibly attentive, warm and genuinely went above and beyond from the moment we arrived. The hotel itself is beautifully designed. Every corner was thoughtfully decorated and incredibly photogenic, and the overall aesthetic was stylish without compromising on comfort. Even our room was beautifully designed, comfortable and very well equipped, with lots of thoughtful amenities included. The views from the hotel were also lovely. Unfortunately, it was raining during our stay, so we didn’t get to properly enjoy or photograph the rooftop pool, which was a little disappointing — but it gives us another reason to come back! One of our favourite additions was the photoshoot. The hotel was incredibly accommodating and allowed us to arrange a much earlier photoshoot slot because we were short on time. The experience was so good that we ended up purchasing additional photos beyond the three included with our room. It was such a fun and memorable experience. Our room rate also included afternoon tea, although we arrived at night and unfortunately didn’t have the opportunity to try it. However, supper was included and was honestly one of the highlights. It was a combination of semi-buffet and made-to-order dishes, with a surprisingly good variety. Everything we tried was delicious, and there was more than enough food. It was such a nice and unexpected inclusion, especially after travelling all day. We were also celebrating our child’s birthday during our stay, and the hotel had thoughtfully prepared a birthday cake and a little present for him in advance. It was such a sweet and thoughtful touch, and really made us feel welcomed and looked after❤️ Overall, we were genuinely impressed by this hotel. From the beautiful design and comfortable rooms to the incredible service, thoughtful inclusions, photoshoot and birthday surprise, everything felt very well thought out. The service in particular really stood out — the staff were attentive, friendly and incredibly helpful throughout our short stay. We only stayed one night and didn’t leave the hotel during our stay, so unfortunately we can’t comment much on the surrounding area or its convenience for exploring Kunming. But based purely on our experience at the hotel, we would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it.

Hands down the best hotel in the Kunming KMG airport area. You must stay here! I am a huge fan! I live in China and travel through KMG airport often for layovers and have stayed at the Ji Hotel right inside the airport. That hotel is okay (and has the location advantage of being right inside the terminal) but feels very stuffy and many of the rooms have no windows. In many ways that hotel isa broom closet compared tithe DoubleTree 🌳 🌳. The DoubleTree by Hilton blows that Ji Hotel (and most others in the KMG area) out of the water💦! For an extra 10 minute private van ride, the upgrade in conditions is significant and well worthwhile. The lobby is beautiful and the breakfast is a true 5 star masterpiece that has LOTS of options for both western and Chinese tourists, including made to order egg station, made to order noodle station, and an incredible fresh salad 🥗 bar with high quality ingredients (very hard to find in China 😜). The service staff is top notch with great English at check in and very helpful all the way through. The hotel is brand new and everything is sparkling clean. The elevator is very fast and modern and the furnishings are all tasteful and elegant! There are so many free extras that make this an incredible value: -Free Private shuttle in brand new Buick 🚐 van -Free hand baked chocolate chip cookie on check in -2 free bowls of local Yunnan noodles delivered to your room for you -Free Puer tea tasting

For an overnight stay to be in close proximity to the airport, this hotel was perfect! I really liked our family room. It was very clean, new and modern. We had a nice view from our room. Complimentary airport transfer was easily arranged at 5am with takeaway breakfast prepared for us. There is no drive-thru for us to alight with our luggages. Our driver had to drive to the basement carpark which was dark and extremely confusing. Then we had to go through a narrow passage to find the hotel lift. Which was challenging with 2 toddlers (5 and 2 years old) and 4 large luggages and stroller. Hotel staff also doesn’t help with the luggage- this can be improved. This was the most challenging part for us.

Memandangkan kami mempunyai saudara-mara yang lebih tua bersama kami, dia bukan sahaja mengatur daftar masuk awal dengan cepat tetapi juga secara proaktif meningkatkan bilik kami - sungguh menyentuh hati! Sebaik sahaja kami masuk ke dalam bilik, ibu terus memuji, mengatakan kemudahannya lengkap dan sangat selesa. Lokasi hotel ini juga sangat baik, dengan tempat letak kenderaan sendiri, menjadikannya sangat mudah untuk mereka yang memandu. Untuk ke Cuihu Park dan stesen kereta api hanyalah tambang yang singkat. Walaupun terdapat banyak kedai telefon bimbit berdekatan, ia sebenarnya sangat sunyi, dan pesanan bawa pulang adalah mudah. Satu-satunya kelemahan kecil ialah lubang penghawa dingin pusat tidak sempurna. Secara keseluruhan, penginapan adalah sempurna dalam segala hal. Restoran sarapan pagi mempunyai suasana yang bagus dan pelbagai pilihan, tetapi papan tanda tidak begitu jelas. Apabila melancong, kami berasa lega kerana saudara-mara kami yang lebih tua gembira. Ibu saya berkata dia pasti akan memilih hotel ini lagi lain kali!

Nice hotel. Staff need some training when handling requests. Incident happen on 7 March 26. On 8th March evening, my daughter wanted to buy food on line. But because we are foreigners, we do not have local phone number. My daughters approached the concierge for assistances. However, the response was unacceptable. The male concierge questions my daughters why they don't have local number in a very rude way. My daughters were surpirse by his questions. It was good that another concierge intervene and asssit my daughters on their requests. Although in the end, we did not mamage to order food on line, we are thankful for the second concierge asssitance. That being said, the hotel need look into training front line staff in handling inquires even if they are unable to accede to their guest request.

Everything is great other that they should stop old men smoking in the building because it's literally a child location with child facitilites, it's easy to go outside. There's signs saying no smoking but they don't enforce it. Other than that it's great, especially the hot spring outside

Reception Chaos and The Window Saga Check-in was rushed and incomplete—no luggage assistance, no WeChat information, no translation tools. The real problems began when I reported my window wouldn't close. With one receptionist managing everything, guests competed for attention in survival-of-the-rudest fashion. She'd abandon helping me whenever someone else interrupted, forcing me to wait while she handled whoever was most insistent. Hours of frustration followed. The maintenance worker actually said it ”wasn't really a problem” since ”most windows are like that in the hotel”—an alarming admission. After being dismissed and deprioritized repeatedly, I finally got another room. This one had a working window but noisy neighbors and poor soundproofing that broadcast every car horn. They sent an apology fruit platter—genuinely the best I've received in China, beautifully arranged. But fruit platters require far less investment than proper staff training, adequate staffing, or basic maintenance. The Bright Spots: Room and Breakfast The stylish room with warm atmosphere and spacious layout was genuinely nice, though the window view wasn't appealing. The bed was acceptable. The breakfast team was easily the best part of this hotel—truly professional unlike virtually everyone else. Day one featured fantastic food, skilled preparation, and competent service that stood in stark contrast to other departments. Even when choices declined on days two and three (less refilling, fewer Western options), the cooking team remained the most professional staff I encountered. They also shut down before 1:30 PM despite posted hours. Housekeeping Failures During housekeeping, I left my robe and towels out to be changed—they were clearly used and wet, obviously needing replacement. They didn't change them—they folded them and left them. I had to ask them to replace items like shower gel, basically had to tell them everything. They also moved my pile of dirty clothes for some reason and mixed it with clean clothes, putting everything on a chair. Maybe these staff should respect personal space and belongings? One housekeeping staff member in the morning delivered mineral water but was impatient and unfriendly. Infrastructure Issues This aging property needs renovation. The hotel is pretty old—windows not closing, minor things not working or getting detached from walls. Water temperature in the shower fluctuated wildly, giving you burning water on your face when you don't expect it. Shower pressure from the handle was pretty good, but not sure what the top running shower is for—low pressure, useless. Elevators were very slow. I ordered coffee—it was delivered to reception but they didn't call or message me and didn't use the robot to deliver to my room. I went downstairs at some point and took it. No explanation, no apology. Final Verdict Two genuine strengths: stylish rooms and a professional breakfast team that understood hospitality. This only highlighted how dysfunctional everything else was. The chaotic reception, incompetent housekeeping, dangerous infrastructure, and absent service standards make this hard to recommend—despite nice rooms and excellent breakfast staff. Would I return? No. Would I recommend? Only if everywhere else was fully booked.

We recently stayed at this hotel with my husband and had quite a mixed experience – some parts were truly lovely, while others left us a bit disappointed. First of all, the villa itself was absolutely beautiful and incredibly spacious. The natural hot spring water was one of the highlights of our stay — such a relaxing and unique experience. The surrounding territory is also well-maintained and very peaceful, perfect for disconnecting and enjoying nature. However, it’s important to note that the location is quite remote — it took us around an hour to get to places where we could eat or enjoy a cup of coffee. This is understandable considering the mountain setting and access to hot springs. The afternoon tea was decent, and although lunch wasn’t included in our stay, we tried the local mixian noodles and they were absolutely delicious! Must try! Unfortunately, breakfast was disappointing, especially for guests like us who don’t eat pork or pork oil - there were very few options. A few maintenance and cleanliness issues also affected our stay. The outdoor pool was not super clean, some insects were swimming there. While we really loved the hot spring bathtub in the villa, the facilities could use a bit more upkeep. The toilet setup was quite basic — a minimum upgrade like a bidet spray or shower toilet would make a big difference, especially for international or Muslim guests. A more distressing part of our stay was that we found dead insects under the blanket in our bed after returning to our room one evening 🥲 I do appreciate the staff’s polite and kind response – they offered tea and explained it may have fallen from the ceiling – but for someone with a strong phobia of insects, this made it difficult to sleep and really affected my comfort. I do believe this is something that should be taken more seriously, especially in a hotel of this level. Despite these issues, the staff was very polite, cute and extremely helpful & friendly, and I can see the potential for a truly magical experience here with just a few improvements. I really wanted to love everything — and part of me did — but I was also happy to go back home, just to feel more comfortable and relaxed.
