"This hotel is so terrible,despite charging me for exorbitant charges for resort fees, valet and asked them to clean up my room,hotel front desk told me I need 24hr. notice.It sucks. "Even though we only stayed one night at Castle Hilo Hawaiian Hotel before an early flight, the experience was lovely and a clear standout compared to other nearby options. Our room was more affordable than the one we had at SCP, yet it was significantly more spacious, clean, and comfortable. We even had a private balcony, which added a really nice touch. The setting was serene, surrounded by beautiful banyan trees and with easy access to walking paths along the ocean. The atmosphere was peaceful and welcoming! perfect for a restful night before travel. I wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy more of what the property had to offer. Highly recommend it if you're staying in Hilo."

"The hotel itself is better than expected; You can tell that they went through a massive renovation in order to give a chill vibes based stay (on the outside). Inside of the room, it’s definitely an old hotel… I liked the furniture, but the windows were too open for my liking (you get the feeling that anyone can look into your room); Not as much of an issue since we used the curtains! The bath towels were covered in hair (ranging from long strands to tiny ***** pieces) which I found to be disgusting. The staff were more than willing to switch out the towels (there was still hair on them but a little dusting off mainly did the job). There was tiny ***** hair pieces in the bathtub as well, but I washed them down the drain so no biggie. The main issue that I had with this stay was that you could hear everything that was going on in rooms next door or outside. We heard loud screaming and fighting into the early ams, and it took a while for them to stop. This is not the hotel’s fault, but if you do stay here, keep in mind that the rooms aren’t very spacious, you can hear everything, and there might be hair in your towels. Overall, I really loved staying here and found it to be quite charming. The view in front of the hotel is INSANE. Though I listed negative traits about this hotel, I feel that it’s important to give some transparency to readers of this review. Mostly everyone goes into a hotel thinking that it’s 1000% clean and perfect. However, for me, the negative reviews are what I look for so that I know what to expect. You will definitely love the vibes and views this hotel has to offer, as well as the friendliness of the staff who worlds here."

"The most disappointing accommodation in this trip. I checked in late and it took me a long time to call the receptionist. The room has no air conditioning and the breakfast is not delicious. It is said to have a sea view, but the location is close and the sea cannot be seen in the room. There is no place to have breakfast. As you can see, the appearance of the room looks good in the picture, but from a close look it lacks maintenance and is unpopular. Booked based on ratings, not reliable."

"The hotel is by the sea. It’s quite enjoyable to stay there. Although the hotel opened in 1975, everything is still quite okay. The staff were very helpful and responsive to guests. When my wife and I got to the room, my wife was unsatisfied with the bathroom light and the bugs, the staff understood me and helped us solve the problem."

"I recently stayed at SCP Hilo and, overall, I found the experience to be underwhelming. While the service was decent, there were several drawbacks that made the stay less than ideal. The hotel is located very close to the airport, so noise from early-morning flights was constant and began as early as 4AM. On top of that, many guests were leaving for early flights, which meant lots of door-slamming and hallway noise at all hours. The room itself was quite small and dated, with no real view—just a window that looked into the interior courtyard. Unfortunately, this compromised both privacy and quiet, as anyone walking by could see directly into the room. One major downside was the additional daily "amenities fee," which felt excessive considering the limited offerings. Overall, I wouldn’t recommend this hotel, especially if you’re looking for a peaceful or private stay."

"Tremendous space & person! I arrived late (after 8pm) as a surprise for my Family Reunion & so after dinner. The caretaker met me kindly after I got into the door (clear & simple instructions were given) to help me to get my bearings, carry my 2 carryons to my room & lead me to my room. He also provided a cold bottle of water, MUCH appreciated! I found the place to be very clean, spacious & well-organized with simple instructions in the bathroom, kitchen & shared spaces. I appreciate the simplicity & cleanliness, while still giving me my space! TY again for this last-minute booking that turned into a true treasure for myself as an introvert needing space, cleanliness & simplicity. Mahalo & May ke Akua bless U always! Dawn"
