Hotel di La Plata County

Well checked in March 3, 2023. It is beautiful building and the view of the river is nice. From the moment we pulled in, it went down hill. There are steps that you have to carrying your bags up. There is a handicap ramp on far end of the steps but it was almost impossible to to take the cart all the way around from where you pull up. Check in was good and everyone was friendly enough. Once we started registering I WAS TOLD THERE WOULD BE a 12.00$ PARKING CHARGE. I WAS not a happy camper. We get to the room and my wife had to put the bags in the trash cans herself. At the price we paid for this room that seemed ridiculous..next the bar opened at 1500, I went in at 1630 and had to go find a bartender to get a drink. Once MATT showed up he was fabulous and very friendly and nice. Ordered dinner fish and chips for my wife and I, 18.00$ per order. Called down to front desk and asked if at these prices did breakfast come with the room, was told it did not, but was available at a cost. Long story short here in my opinion there are many places to stay in DURANGO and it would be better to go someplace else. I understand that PROFIT is not a dirty word in business but RAPE is. Just my thoughts, I WOULD NEVER STAY at this place again.. Hope this helps someone to make their decision..

This was the best hotel in our trip thus far! The rate was very good; the staff was friendly; the room was clean; the shower was hot; the breakfast was good and we enjoyed a complimentary evening popcorn snack! 5/5

Amazing spot! Right in the hub of all the life in Durango! Great parking. The hotel itself was part of the visits fun. We walked around one night looking for something to do, but around 8PM things tend to close down in Durango but it turns out the hotel had to fun we were looking for. We walked back to the hotel and heard lively ragtime piano music coming from the hotels connected saloon. We walked in, found a chair, and cheered along with the rest of the crowd enjoying the music and stories of Adam Swanson.

Normally I don't rate a hotel this high, but the Front Desk person very much symphathized and agreed with my concern about dogs being in the hotel (above the first floor). She agreed that dogs should have restricted access as many people like myself are either allergic to dogs or otherwise don't want their personal space invaded by an overanxious dog (and Owner who does not respect the personal space of others). The Front Desk girl said Hilton will soon allow dogs on ALL hotel floors. Too bad. I will have to re-evaluate my stay at Hilton hotels. Pleasing just dog owners at the expense of everyone else is not a winning strategy. Please keep the first-floor only policy for dogs. (Stay was on April 30. Keep the Front Desk girl! She was extremely nice; you don't want to lose her.) By the way, the rest of the hotel--room, etc. were excellent overall.
