"Review: The Langham Shanghai — Still Well-Located, But No Longer the Same The Langham Shanghai has long been one of my preferred hotels, especially before the pandemic. After many stays, I’ve come to expect a certain standard of hospitality, consistency, and refinement. This recent visit, however, showed a noticeable decline across several areas. Service Overall service from the staff was acceptable. Front-line employees remained polite and tried their best. However, the manager on duty—a Caucasian manager—felt out of touch with Asian hospitality norms. His attitude came off as dismissive and rude, which immediately set the wrong tone. The contrast between the staff’s warmth and his behavior was striking. Breakfast Buffet The most significant drop was in the breakfast buffet. Quality has slipped in a way that’s hard to ignore: food didn’t taste as fresh, dishes weren’t as well prepared, and the overall selection felt uninspired compared to previous years. At this point, it’s honestly better to go out for breakfast. Room & Housekeeping Room cleanliness was fine, but small inconsistencies added up. Turn-down service was missed on some nights. When I requested water refill, the staff who arrived seemed confused about why she had been sent up, leading to an awkward exchange. These are small moments, but in a five-star hotel, they highlight cracks in training and coordination. Overall Impression The Langham Shanghai still has one unbeatable strength: location. But nearly everything else has declined—food, consistency, management attitude, and attention to detail. After years of loyalty, I’m now considering switching to a different hotel for future trips. The experience simply didn’t match the standards I’ve known and trusted from The Langham brand. A disappointing stay from a once-reliable favorite."

"We were upgraded to a river view room for free, and my little one was thrilled to see the Oriental Pearl Tower right from our window! It's a 10-minute walk to the sightseeing boat pier, and there's a shopping mall downstairs with all sorts of dining and shopping options. A special shout-out for the complimentary extra bed for kids – that was a fantastic touch! The experience was superb. There's also a lovely, quiet riverside promenade perfect for a stroll with beautiful scenery."

"I came for a concert and took the opportunity to explore. The hotel's location on Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street is prime, offering great value for money in all aspects. Upon arrival, they kindly upgraded us to a family-themed room, and my child absolutely loved the little tent inside! The hotel facilities were clean and tidy, and they even thoughtfully provided an odor-proof takeout trash bin. The view from the window was also good, and the breakfast spread was rich and varied. The hotel is very close to Nanjing East Road and People's Square, and also conveniently located near popular eateries like Shen Dacheng, Shu Cai Ji, Lailai Xiaolong, and Weixiangzhai. I'll definitely choose Holiday Inn again next time I visit Shanghai!"

"The rooms were quite satisfying overall. Although we missed the shuttle pick-up to the hotel, the staff at the front desk patiently guided us on alternative ways to get there, so we checked in smoothly. We were given a super king-size bed room, which was great. **Facilities:** The room, though small, was very cozy. The Paw Patrol wall design was a hit with the kids, and there was a mini-fridge stocked with a good variety of free drinks. **Hygiene:** The overall cleanliness was very good. The hotel itself looks quite grand and upscale. Excellent value for money! We booked the Disneyland shuttle for the next day. A guide on the shuttle gave us a brief overview. Since it was our first time at Disneyland and we had two young children, it was a bit challenging to plan, so we hired a guide to take us around. While it was still quite tiring for seniors and young children, at least we didn't waste any time. Through my active communication, specific routes were arranged for both children. However, the 1500 price felt a bit steep, considering we still had to queue for everything, and they didn't help us with the stroller (they said internal policy didn't allow it, and they'd be removed from the park if caught). While we understood, a part of the service we expected was missing, yet we were still charged the full amount, which felt a bit unreasonable."

TTumanduyaodetangFirst off, a big praise for the location – it's really good, not far from the subway, and the hotel even offers a free shuttle to some attractions. The service was excellent, the staff were friendly and enthusiastic, and they even folded my clothes when cleaning the room. The hotel itself is spacious, and the cleanliness is pretty good too. The downside, though, is the poor soundproofing; I could hear the light switch clicking next door even after 11 PM.

Breakfast was the best I have had for a long time. Lived the rice, fried eggs, noodles , fruit vegetables. Even clams one morning. Great variety of drinks. The chief and staff were very happy & helpful. Extremely clean. I used the laundry room which also had a tumble dryer. This was useful due to travelling on to Beijing afterwards. The other family rooms have slides and are duplex. Sue the swimming pool is great in the summer. Excellent price , excellent choice for Families going to Disneyland and other local trips. Loved being able to go along the local street to see Shanghai local food, shops and life. Seems to be a family run business which is lovely to support. Location is great for the local shops , food, 7/11 supermarket for snacks & drinks Restaurants and food for locals which was delicious and a great price. Shuttle bus excellent. Taxi ( Didi) was £3 back from Disneyland . £11 to Shanghai Greenhouse Gardens ( evening ticket £5.40) this is an amazing trip not to be missed.

Llulu333100% recommend!!! I always stay in this hotel whenever I come to Shanghai! It's in a great area of the city and right across the road from Changshu Lu subway station (which has two subway lines on). The hotel has many rooms and is spread out on the 18th, 19th, and 20th floors of the building. Which means that there are incredible views of the city! I recommend paying a little extra and getting the room with a window, just for the view! The rooms are very clean with amazing bedding and pillows. You also have a personal TV, aircon, toiletries pack, bottle of water and slippers etc. There are water filter machines on each floor and usually free tea on the lobby floor. The staff are there 24 hours at the front desk, so you can check in anytime. The bathrooms are always really clean, and the cleaning ladies are always in out, making sure everything is nice. Bonus: The famous SYSTEM night club is also in the same building (around 3rd floor). So you can party and then go up to your room on the 19th floor!

We were just planning to drop off our luggage and head out, but to our surprise, the friendly staff at the front desk immediately asked his colleague if any rooms were ready. He also asked if we had eaten breakfast and promptly arranged for us to go to the buffet. The breakfast spread was incredibly diverse. By the time we finished eating and came back, the front desk attendant had already completed our check-in. This is my first time traveling where I've been able to check in half a day early, and even get a complimentary breakfast before checking in – I was so touched! And for such a great price, with breakfast included, it's really incredible value for money, especially in a city like Shanghai.

First off, its biggest highlight is the location. It's incredibly close to Disney! The hotel offers a dedicated free shuttle bus to Disney, which takes about ten minutes. This saves the hassle of taking a taxi or the subway, making it super convenient for those who want to get to the park early for queuing. Plus, the hotel also provides airport transfer services. My classmates were able to take the hotel's car directly from the airport, saving them the trouble of lugging luggage around and navigating, which was incredibly stress-free. I booked a family room for the three girls, and the space was very generous, not at all cramped. The beds were also just the right size and very comfortable to sleep in. The cleanliness of the room was impeccable; it was spotless, which made their stay very reassuring. The hotel environment is also excellent. The decor is modern and elegant, and the common areas are great for photos. My classmates mentioned that the lobby had a lovely fragrance, and the check-in process was very smooth. I must give a special shout-out to the service here. From communication during the booking process to fulfilling various needs during their stay, the staff were responsive and enthusiastic. My classmates accidentally left something in the room, and when they contacted the hotel, it was quickly found and safely kept, which made them feel very reassured. The only minor detail is that some facilities might not be the newest models, but they are very well-maintained and completely functional, not affecting the overall experience. All in all, this was a very successful booking experience. Whether it was the location, room comfort, or service level, everything was impeccable. It's especially suitable for friends visiting Disney – highly recommended! If I have friends coming to Shanghai again, I'll definitely choose this place!

I had asked about the location beforehand, and it truly is incredibly convenient for getting around. The guesthouse itself perfectly matches the pictures, and the environment is lovely, located in Jing'an Villa. It really gave us a taste of the authentic Shanghai alleyway experience. My friends and I had a wonderful time. We were very happy and look forward to staying here again if we get the chance!

AAnonymous UserBook this...the location is good - the Shanghai Railway Metro is within walking distance, and from there, you'll reach most tourist spots in only 2-5 stops. Transfers are convenient. We stayed for 6 nights, and the front desk and housekeeping staff were so accommodating. There's free bottled water, coffee, and tea at the lobby, plus other essentials. The twin Smart-AI room had an automated toilet, and the beds are as advertised (~1.5m), comfortable for 2 people to share. Blackout curtains help you get a good rest. You can also have your Taobao parcels delivered to the hotel. They have an area for this, and your package will be placed on the shelf based on your mobile's ending number. Your food delivery will be brought your door by a robot. This was a good stay, and we'd love to book this again for our next visit.

MM483741****The location is fantastic! One gate of the complex opens onto the bustling Huaihai Middle Road, while the other leads to the charming and vintage Nanchang Road. The room's interior also has a very retro feel, full of old Shanghai character. Nanchang Road itself is lined with many stylish cafes and small bars. The service team is very attentive; they sent check-in instructions in advance and were available online throughout my stay to provide assistance. They even helped arrange luggage storage. I had to check out early due to a foot injury, and they didn't charge any cancellation fees. The only minor drawback of this room is that the bathroom is in a small courtyard. It might be fine in summer, but it was a bit cold in winter. However, there's a small portable heater in the courtyard that warmed it up considerably, so it wasn't a big issue. I'd love to come back and try a different room type if I get the chance.
