The hotel's location is good. Although it's a bit old, it still has all the hardware facilities expected of a five-star hotel. Let me focus on the most unpleasant service experience this time. We booked a family room, which included three breakfasts. Our child had an upset stomach the night before and was throwing up and had diarrhea all night. So, in the morning, only the two adults went to eat, thinking of getting a takeaway box for the child. This is where the unpleasant experience began. The person in black, who seemed to be a supervisor at the restaurant, said that if we had already started dining, takeaway boxes wouldn't be provided (at this point, we thought we only had two breakfasts included). Later, after checking the order, we confirmed that the family room included three breakfasts. We went back to the restaurant reception to ask for a takeaway box, clarifying upfront that our room included three breakfasts and that we wanted to pack something because our child was unwell. Even then, the front desk staff said that after 6:30 AM, it's recommended to dine in, and takeaway boxes are generally not provided. She also claimed it was busy and she couldn't authorize it (even though there were no guests waiting at the front desk at that time) and that only the supervisor could approve it. I had to wait for her to call the supervisor over again before I finally got a takeaway box. Throughout this entire process, both of them had cold faces and showed absolutely no service意识 (service awareness). This definitely deserves a negative review!!!

The breakfast here is probably the best I've ever had! So many options and really hearty dishes, no wonder everyone who visits Shanxi needs a nap afterwards 💤. Service was good, though they weren't very flexible with upgrades this time. Also, the projection in the movie room wasn't working properly… The welcome fruit was just okay, didn't really fancy it. The first Starbucks coffee on the first day of my stay was a nice touch though – perfect for an early morning pick-me-up.

The room was great, on the 21st floor, directly facing Yongtai Gate, offering a good view of the ancient city's layout. They also provided 4 bottles of high-quality spring water in the room. Breakfast was rich, including Cantonese options. On the day we left, we asked the front desk for a late check-out until 3 PM, and they agreed. Even though it's an older five-star hotel, it still maintains its quality. Very good. And it's convenient to get to the ancient city.

The hotel facilities are quite old, but its location is a big plus. I wasn't a fan of the large vanity mirror facing the double bed, and the air conditioning display stayed lit up all night. The power outlets also seemed a bit dated. It was clean, but there's a construction site downstairs. Luckily it rained, so there wasn't much dust, but it was quite noisy in the mornings. The overall environment is pretty average, which is to be expected for an older hotel. The breakfast selection was limited and the taste was just okay, though the knife-cut noodles were decent. I really need to vent about the restaurant. They advertised a separate entrance for hotel guests, but when I went down for dinner, it was packed. The staff managing the queue kept giving conflicting information, and the whole system was incredibly disorganized. Eventually, they told us to wait for half an hour across the street with non-guests until the central corridor restaurant opened. When I went back to the hotel lobby to ask what was going on, a front desk attendant had a security guard escort me up to a table in the Chinese restaurant, where I had to share a table. The food wasn't great either – very salty. Lots of complaints, so I'd advise caution.

Their professional and meticulous service, with each manager excelling in their respective roles, made for an excellent experience. On the day of my check-in, the hotel was fully booked. Manager Laura proactively addressed my accommodation needs, patiently communicated and coordinated, and, despite the high occupancy, actively worked to secure a complimentary upgrade to a deluxe suite for me. Her service was thoughtful and warm. Manager Andy handled the check-in process efficiently and rigorously, meticulously verifying my information and proactively explaining the hotel facilities, breakfast details, and parking policies. His professionalism and composed demeanor reflected excellent service standards. Manager Aria focused on the details, arranging for complimentary welcome fruits and additional drinking water in my room, and promptly responded to my ad-hoc inquiries with a gentle and attentive attitude. The three managers demonstrated excellent teamwork and enthusiastic service. Even during a busy period, they maintained high-quality service, fully showcasing Marriott's outstanding service standards and management capabilities. This stay truly felt like a home away from home and left a lasting impression. My heartfelt thanks to all three managers for their dedicated service. I usually prefer staying at established local hotels when I travel, as they often have better locations and prices compared to international chains. I stayed here for two days, and the breakfast selection was extensive, they delivered fresh fruit to the room daily, and the room hygiene was excellent. The staff were also very friendly. A special shout-out to the bespectacled uncle who served lamb offal soup and fried eggs at the breakfast entrance – his service was exceptionally good, and he enthusiastically encouraged us to try the lamb offal soup, which tasted great. Let me elaborate. **Courtyard Design:** Very beautiful, many scenic spots within the ancient city are decorated in a similar style. **Room Amenities:** Given the prime location, the room isn't large, perhaps around 15 square meters. It has all the essentials and is very clean. The mattress was comfortable. Of course, it can't compare to high-end or luxury hotels. Its main advantage is its excellent location; it's very convenient for exploring, and you can easily pop back for a rest when you get tired. **Service:** The staff were very service-oriented. When we arrived, there weren't many guests, and the service was very attentive. **Breakfast:** It's not a buffet; it's a fixed-menu breakfast, like a 'nine-grid' style. It looks very appealing, and the taste is decent enough to fill you up. Overall, it's a good stay. Naturally, for this price point within the ancient city, you shouldn't compare it to hotels of the same price outside. It's incomparable, primarily due to its superb geographical advantage.

Located right next to the Confucius Temple, it's incredibly convenient for exploring the ancient city. The rooms have a traditional decor and are very warm. The hotel grounds are really spacious. We arrived late at night, but it was so easy because we'd messaged the hotel on WeChat beforehand to arrange a complimentary business shuttle pick-up from the high-speed rail station. Their service is excellent and proactive. Since it was the off-season, they even upgraded us to a larger room for free, which was fantastic value for money. With traditional kang beds, old-fashioned door locks, and a classic courtyard, it's perfect for guests who want to experience traditional culture.

If you're traveling to Linfen, Shanxi, I genuinely recommend Gu Cheng Da Yuan. It's not a hotel in the usual sense; it's more like staying in a living piece of history. The moment you push open the heavy wooden door, the city's hustle and bustle are shut out. It's a genuine old house, not some 'faux-ancient' style. 🛏️ The stay was more comfortable than I expected. The room was spacious, antique in style, but not at all dark. ✔ Underfloor heating + central air conditioning throughout, so no fear of the cold in winter. ✔ Turn on the projector and binge-watching shows in bed at night was incredibly satisfying 📽️. ✔ Welcome fruit, tea, coffee, cocktails 🍹, and afternoon tea 🫖 were all prepared. ✔ 24-hour butler service, always responsive. ✔ Takeout can be delivered directly to the room – super friendly for lazy people. 🥟 The attention to detail was a real bonus. On the Winter Solstice, I actually got to eat dumplings handmade by the hotel, and I suddenly felt 'cared for'. The breakfast menu changes daily, so you don't get tired of it. 💆♀️ This was a truly relaxing, 'lie-flat' vacation. This time, I also tried the newly introduced sound bowl healing at the hotel, which made me so relaxed I didn't want to talk throughout the session. Even if I didn't leave all day, just soaking up the sun, reading, and daydreaming in the courtyard felt completely worth it. 📸 Every corner is picture-perfect. Overall, the hotel is excellent. The room was clean with no unpleasant odors, and the bedding was neat and tidy. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious, and the restaurant was clean and bright. However, the bathroom only had half a roll of toilet paper. I asked the cleaning lady for another roll, but she said she didn't have any. I found that quite odd. Additionally, the front desk told me there would be eight bottles of water in the room, but there were actually only two in the room and two in the fridge. Given the hot weather, that wasn't nearly enough for me. My husband also asked the cleaning lady for toilet paper, and she also said she didn't have any. In the end, we had to buy a pack of tissues outside, which was very inconvenient. We were already tired and just wanted to rest. During our trip to Yuncheng, we saw the loess hills, which were beautiful for us southerners.
