MMatthew JamesWhen you book country pub/hotels you don't expect 5* service, you expect to experience local life. In the pub there was a definite abundance of that, and we had a lot of fun. The food was not bad and the cask ale excellent.
The room was small but ensuite and clean. The issue for me was the heat. Even though the weather was cold n damp the room was boiling hot - in part due to underfloor pipes. I had to open the window and try and lean against the wall to keep cool. I went for breakfast early leaving my partner to sleep. The breakfast was a cold buffet ( cooked breakfast weekends only) and was perfectly fine. The lady on breakfast duty chatted away constantly pushing for me to drag my partner downstairs. We were the only residents so I didn't see the urgency. After breakfast the same lady was knocking on the room door to tell us we should have vacated the room by 10. How early is that! The result being we had to pay £25 as a late checkout fee. Leaving is with the feeling that we weren't guests just an inconvenience.
GGuest UserVery disappointed, our room required maintenance, furnishings and decorating. For instance, the sink lacked a plug, no fittings to hang towels, bath furnishing were badly affected by damp to the point of rotting. Paint had peeled off the walls, painted doors and skirting appeared filthy. There was nowhere to store our luggage, supplied furnishings were in poor condition. The room was of a good size with high ceilings and a sofa, comfortable beds with good clean linen. Good size pool but the jacuzzi lacked power.
GGingerNutzThe B&B is near the centre of Brecon, within easy walking distance of everything in town. Our room was small but comfortable and well equipped. There wasn't much storage space in the room. Our room was at the front of the B&B, on the main road, so it was too noisy to sleep with the window open. Not so good during a heatwave!
Breakfast was good. We had a cooked breakfast the 1st morning and pancakes for the 2nd. Generous portions in both cases.
There's parking available in the courtyard but it's a squeeze to get in. Larger cars will struggle and may not fit.
GGuest UserGrand old Victorian hotel with a nice clean modern pool, good food and friendly, helpful staff. It’s probably the best place to stay in the town and I’ve now stayed twice and would use it again if I needed to visit the town again. However, the decor is getting rather worn in places and it could benefit from new carpets and redecorating. It’s also quite expensive.
MMatthew JamesArrived a little late but everything was prepared waiting for us. The room was small but well-equipped and clean. The bar staff in the evening were good but closed very much at 11. Breakfast was freshly prepared and hot. The hotel is right in the centre of town so a great base for a wander around.
GGuest UserNice hotel and friendly staff. They serve breakfast, dinner, and lunch. If you want breakfast I would recommend paying for it when you make your reservation as this will be less expensive.
GGuest UserThis place would be so so good were the bar to be available! Everything including the breakfast was outstanding but without a bar and possible food it is a bit soulless
