The hotel room is pretty big by Japan standards, and the feeling of the hotel is really grand! Lots of locals were staying there, but the rooms are a little bit dated. The toilet lights were quite dim and the bathrooms could use an update. However, everything worked perfectly and the stay was still extremely enjoyable!
The hotel is situated right next to a bus stop so that makes things super convenient! There’s also a family mart behind the hotel (shortcut! go out of the main door, turn right, walk down the ramp, immediately turn right and right again into the small path, go up the stairs past the hotel park, then turn left and cross the small roads, and you’ll find the konbini) The hotel also rents out bicycles to hotel guests FOC, so you can take the bike literally anywhere! We rode to the supermarket (~10 mins away) and also down by the river (10/10 recommended!) and just explored lots around!
Gifu is a lovely quiet town and we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to experience a side of Japan that isn’t just Tokyo or Osaka.
I chose this hotel because of its location and really good nightly price for a ryokan, which exceeded my expectations. I was also amazed by how massive the hotel was. Overall, I had an exceptional experience staying here.
It’s less than an 6-minute walk from Gero Station. The hotel seems to wait for each train’s arrival to pick up guests, which was a nice gesture. We arrived quite early—several hours before check-in—but were able to store our luggage. The check-in process was smooth, and the staff who attended to us did an excellent job explaining the hotel’s facilities, services, and amenities. The service was truly top-notch.
The room we reserved was very spacious, with plenty of room to move around and arrange our belongings. Everything was well-maintained, clean, and tidy. The beds were comfortable—I slept very well.
The breakfast was wonderful. The dining hall is large and well-organized; despite how crowded it gets during breakfast time, it didn’t feel packed. The food selection was remarkable, with a wide variety of dishes to try.
The onsen was incredible. I took multiple baths while trying out the different public onsen—there are three at the hotel, each offering a unique vibe.
The facilities and amenities were exactly as advertised in the Services & Amenities section. Out of my recent two-week trip, this accommodation will be the most memorable—not only because I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, but also because I won Monkey D. Luffy Gear 5 figures from the claw machines in their game corner. It was so much fun.
A lovely location to enjoy an onsen and cute little town. 2-3 nights is the perfect amount of time for this hotel. The town is very small and you can walk through the temple just Infront of the hotel to reach it. Although the hill is very steep, the stairs make it manageable but it's alot of stairs. On arrival the shuttle bus is waiting for you and they take your luggage to the room. A staff member guides you to your room and explains when the shuttle leaves, where to go to explore the hotel, breakfast and public bath times. The public bath is open between 3pm and 1am, closes for cleaning than opens again from 5am to 10am and closes for cleaning again. During each cleaning they switch the male and female public bathing zones so everyone has a chance to experience each bath. I chose a room with a private bath and a mountain view. The private bath is small but big enough for 2 people if you're both sitting, it also has a window that opens up. The view is stunning. Breakfast starts around 7am and last service is at 8:30am. If you stay 2 nights they will give 2 different breakfasts. Green tea, coffee, juice and milk are the only drinks at breakfast. Soft drink is available at reception during the afternoon. The Hilda beef steak meal provided by the hotel racks up the price with it being $70 AUD per person and for comparison, in town, a similar meal was around $40 AUD per person. If you really want a dinner at the hotel than try out the paid dinner but there's a few good spots to eat in town. There's this one restaurant called Senda that is a good price and just left of the big hotel direction sign at the bottom of the mountain. If you are unsure of where to go than pick up the local food map at the town info office. Anyway, good hotel for a city getaway as well as an opportunity to take the Shinkansen and local train from Tokyo (4 hours from Tokyo but great views and easy transfer)
Lovely hotel, had old money vibes. Seems to be a popular hotel for weddings.
The breakfast and dinner were nice, but there is not much variety, seeing as the food served for breakfast was pretty much the same for the 2 mornings I was there.
The room was nice and spacious, was clean and bright too - always a plus for me.
My biggest downside is that for the room type I booked, the rooms were located along the same corridor as the back-of-house. So we could hear dishwashing and ventilation sounds.
The location is good to reach easily the JR and Meitetsu station, also close to the main city and highway bus stops. Very close to Gifu City 43 (with observatory deck). It is just around what used to be the covered clothing shopping district, which is now mostly empty and run down. The district is seeing progressive renovations. There are plenty of restaurants around, but for more affordable places, might have to walk some distance.
Room are large enough, so you wont have trouble opening and arranging large luggage. The furniture is old and bathroom needs some maintenance (sink cracked on top and leaking under the drain). The ambient was quite dusty and the cleaning of the room is done only on the fourth day of stay (used towels, garbage and mugs/glasses must be put outside the room and will be replaced with a clean set at the door). There is a coin laundry with dryers, but it’s located at lobby level. The staff is polite and helpful, speaks English.
The onsen quality in Gero district is really superior. Skin feels very silky. The floor structure can feel confusing but we got used to it very quickly. The hotel offers good onsen and kaiseiki experience at economical price. Lots of local Japanese so it felt very authentic.
The only downsides are 1. lack of entertainment
options eg local performance, art & craft for young kids 2. Very crowded breakfast time. They could arrange different breakfast halls to divert the crowd or give timeslot tickets in advance.
1. Nice hotel staff- receptionist, house keeping and restaurant crew who always welcome to answer your needs
2. #1 Breakfast, no others can be compared
3. Easy walking to any tourist areas
We have an wonderful vacation in Japan during the beautiful autumn season, nice people, great food and happy shopping, Thank you all to make us have an unforgettable travel memory. We can't wait to comeback soon for next trip.

Amazing
GGuest UserVery nice hotel in town with onsen. Breakfast was good with selection of both Japanese and Western options. They also offer free supper and ice sticks. There are limited parking bays in front of hotel but once you secured it, it's yours for the entire stay. There's a separate parking lot a minute walk away. Parking is at a reasonable rate of 1100 per day.
CcwinnieThe hotel has a calm, zen-like atmosphere that makes it easy to relax. Breakfast offers a great variety, and the bed is exceptionally comfortable. It’s also conveniently located within walking distance of the station.
We paid an additional 4,500 yen for a private onsen, and it was absolutely worth it. Don’t miss trying the Hida beef—it’s a must.
Honestly, I wish we had stayed another night.
AAnonymous UserLocation near the station and bus stop. Walkable to old city and morning market. They have private onsen and public onsen. Free ramen at night and drinks at lobby. No shoes allowed inside property. Clean room and comfortable bed.

GGigidianqianYou can see the hotel right after turning right from the station, which makes getting around super convenient.
Breakfast options were limited, and I didn't use the public bath.
The front desk was helpful with luggage storage. However, they overcharged me for the accommodation tax, but thankfully, they noticed their mistake and contacted me proactively to issue a refund.
GGuest UserI have no complaints at all to this Onsen Ryokan. It is definitely an old building, but the upkeep was done well. We were slightly late to check in (need to check in by 6pm so that the kaiseki dinner could be served), emailed them on their way and they replied pretty fast. We were greeted by the receptionist that is able to speak fluent English, she showed us around and sharing the facilities available. One small disappointment is although we mentioned we would like to have dinner together with 2 other rooms (our parents and siblings) when they asked us via email before the trip, they didn't manage to arrange it (and we arrived too late to make necessary arrangements). Nonetheless, the breakfast at the hall 2nd day they did arrange a big table for 9 of us including a kid and an infant. The onsens are superb, it is clean and has clear instructions what to do. When I visited, the ryokan is quite quiet, I enjoyed the serenity a lot!
LLee JohnnieOne of the most unforgettable stays we’ve ever had. From the moment my family stepped through the door, we were wrapped in a warm, cosy ambience that instantly made us feel at ease. The room was impeccably clean and wonderfully comfortable, offering the perfect space to relax and unwind. Both dinner and breakfast were nothing short of exceptional—each meal thoughtfully prepared and absolutely delightful. The onsen, overlooking a serene river view, was the true highlight, creating a tranquil and almost dreamlike experience. Every moment spent there felt precious and completely worthwhile.
MM60550****Environment and Service: The hotel is quite large and relatively new, with a big courtyard perfect for a stroll. There's also a shuttle service to and from the station. The only minor drawback is that rooms on one side face the train tracks, which can be a bit noisy, and the soundproofing isn't great.
GGuest UserTo be honest considering this has a 4 star rating I'm a bit disappointed. Generally speaking it is a nice place but there are small things that are lacking compared to other similar Onsen Hotels at the same price. For example they don't provide a basket to go to the onsen but only a cheap plastic bag.
The Hotel itself is very old but well maintained and at least the general spaces use nice materials and decoration. Once you reach the room it becomes worse. The materials used in the room are very cheap (Vinyl Floor, Cheap Wallpaper that was put on very poorly). Some aspects of the room have been refurnished, like the sink but most of it seems to be original from the 60s-80s. The bathtub and Toilet are retro models.
The Onsen baths are a mixed bag - the one on the third floor with Wood ceiling seems to be the newest and is the best of the three. The other two (panorama and first floor) are in dire need of refurbishing. They seem in very bad condition and extremly old.
The worst part (for me) was the Breakfast. 90% of the selection was japanese Style (and even that seemed poor). Western Options were only Pancakes, French Toast (which was good at least) and a few sad pieces of low quality bread with condiments. They didn't even have a coffee machine!!! Only pre-brewed coffee that tasted like water.
