Norefjell Ski & Spa

My fiancé and I stayed at the Norefjell Hotel and Spa for one week in February, out of term time. We were very pleased with the spa facilities at the hotel, which were located on the 7th floor. The spa is open from 1pm until 8pm. It costs extra but we felt it was worth it, the spa included a bathrobe, slippers and towel, the spa provided a cold tub experience of 15°c which felt like an ice bath which works wonders for your body. The outdoor heated pool was fantastic! They also had 3 salt foot spa’s and two saunas. The hotel room was comfortable, and shampoo, conditioner and shower gel were included. The mattresses were on the softer side for me personally but I slept soundly. There is no housekeeping unless you request it during your stay. The reception team are very friendly and will provide you with toilet roll as and when you need them. We were shocked at the number of small children who were roaming the hotel corridors, run up and down until 10pm on some evenings playing games. After carrying out some research we realised that children in Norway don’t start school until the age of 6, which explains why there were so many young families here outside of term time. Of the two restaurants in the hotel, Restaurant 815 is worth visiting, we booked our evening meals through the Norefjell hotel and spa website when we arrived, picking and choosing the days we wanted to dine there. You can also pop into the restaurant and book direct on the day when they open at 6pm. The all you can eat buffet cost us approx £43 each, and we felt it was worth it when you think how much a 3-4 course dinner would cost in the UK. The quality and variety of hot and cold food was very good, they had a number of vegetarian options too. If you dine in the Matbaren restaurant for lunch or dinner I recommend asking for their menu in English. I can reassure you that they offer more than just burgers and pizza’s. There is a delicious chicken salad on the starter menu and a delicious goats cheese on toasted bread with rocket dish as well. They also have steak and reindeer on the menu and 3 choices of desserts. There are many walking trails around the hotel which are worth checking out. We were disappointed with the sledding activity we booked through the Crystal ski app which cost around £20 each, as we were provided with a plastic racing sled that had a steering wheel and a metal breaking system, which I personally didn’t like. When trying to steer, the sled would pull to one side trying to throw you off. There were no instructions from the hotel activity team advising how to operate these non-traditional sleds. We noticed people were wearing their ski helmets to do this activity so it’s worth taking your helmets if you try this activity as there is no health and safety protocol. There is also a pond covered in slow beyond the piste which many people were sledding near, so approach this security with caution. From the airport to the resort the coach stopped for 30 mins at a supe

The hotel is located near the city centre where a large of restaurants and shops are nearby, which is very convenient for travellers. The reception staff is professional and polite. She answered all my queries promptly with smiles. When I asked her for restaurant recommendations, she asked the kind of food I like and recommend a couple of restaurants to me. The room is clean and tidy, with no obvious shortcomings. The breakfast served by the hotel impressed me. There are a large selection of food and fruits. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to my friends
Quality Hotel River Station

A modern hotel close to a train station, which prevents entry to Oslo on the way to Gardermoen airport. Clean, pleasant and relaxing. Rich breakfast. Covered parking some distance from the hotel. There is a problem with unloading and loading luggage since it is necessary to cross a bicycle lane or stand on a sidewalk.

Hotel was really clean, and service was amazing. We came early, and they allowed us to stay in the lobby which was really nice of them
Scandic Hønefoss

We hadn't planned to stay here, we had planned on a very early (0400) departure to drive from Geilo to Oslo Gardemoen at the end of a skiing trip. But the weather forecast was looking a bit unfavourable, so we thought it would be prudent to not risk the snow and ice, but break the back of the journey the night prior. Hønnefoss is a natural location; two hours plus from Geilo and within an hour of Gardemoen made it look like a good place to stop. Two things worth noting: firstly rates can be quite a bit cheaper than the Gardemoen airport hotel rates (plus airport hotels always seem to have more noise from fellow guests' late arrivals / early departures). Secondly, when checking ******* and ***********, both showed no availability. However, going to the Scandic website direct, we managed to book a family room, at short-notice, for NOK1895. Two adjacent rooms (ie, a family room), breakfast included, seemed to be pretty good value. Although we arrived just before 2200, the reception was manned and we received a warm welcome. Parking is a bit of a pain; we parked just over the road in front of the hotel, but it charges all through the night and is pretty expensive. Cheaper than a fine I guess, but still a bit alien to us Brits where parking charges tend not to be applied at night. Anyway, the reception area is bright and welcoming, with all you might expect to find with the Scandic brand. Plus a pool table and shuffleboard. The room was OK. Actually it was a bit tired, which does seem to be a bit if a Scandic Hønnefoss trend. But it was for one night, nine hours, so it did the job. Plus points: comfortable bed, nice lighting, warm, big TV, mini-fridge, and was quiet. Minus points: a bit small, other furniture and general decor a bit worn, and the mini-fridge had a glass door so we had an unwanted night light. We unplugged the mini fridge. Issue solved. Bathroom was fine, actually seemed to be modernised. Being a family room, had a mobile seat for the shower. Clean, lots of hot water and the standard Scandic toiletries. The smaller family room had its own sink unit. Breakfast was included, and is the standard Scandic breakfast, through perhaps not quite as 'rock-star' as those I've enjoyed at Scandic Gardemoen. Trondheim and Bodø (but it's smaller, and so I guess scaled appropriately). But is still very good, usual selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, cheese and meats, bread, pastries, hot dishes. And a waffle maker! So take away the slightly tired room furniture and decor, this was a great place to stop over and we would happily stay here again. There is also more to this hotel than we had the opportunity to discover on such a short stay.

I recently stayed at this hotel and had an incredibly disappointing experience. We booked a family room with a double bed and a single sofa bed, as described and shown in the pictures. After a tiring 7-hour drive, we were given a room with three single beds, which was completely different from what was advertised. Mistakes happen, so we politely went to the reception to address the issue. However, the staff was extremely unhelpful and dismissive, telling us that was all they had and essentially telling us to deal with it. Their attitude was unacceptable and left us feeling frustrated and unwelcome. On top of the poor service, the hotel itself is old and not clean. The level of ignorance from the staff was astonishing. Hotels are all about providing good service, and this place failed miserably. Honestly, this hotel is not even worth staying at for free. I would highly recommend looking elsewhere if you want a pleasant and hassle-free stay.

Back at Vestlia resort and same kind of lodge suite, on the ground floor and so easier for the luggage. It is always quiet. Niec swimming pool and quiet in the morning before the child wake up.. Very good breakfast and this year the children were more quiet... We did not dine here due to the family time...Perhaps a room reserved for the guests without children could be a solution. We understand that everyone should have fun...bit also some want calm... Don't hesiatte to look to the paintings and sculptures all around the first floor buit also in the congress part.. Excellent service

Overall: I will start by saying that the front desk staff were polite, apologetic, and very eager to try to accommodate us. During our travels in Norway we stayed at 2 other Clarion locations both of which were FAR superior. There were three rooms booked here by my family. I booked mine directly with the hotel --which stated that it had air conditioning (it does not), had recently been renovated (perhaps, but the renovations were not noticeable or they made it worse), had parking available (yes, in a nearby lot for a fee you pay with an app) and centrally located (to a massage place a few doors down maybe, but not much else?). Comfort: Our room was excessively hot (it was a heatwave in their defense) but every room was supposed to have a fan and did not. None of the 3 rooms we had purchased had a fan. Food: The dinner served was far inferior to the dinners provided by other Clarions we stayed at. It had a self serve beef taco night with drinks available only for a fee. Dessert was primarily a bowl of apples and bananas. The food was fresh and well cooked, if not very appealing. It was palatable. Customer Service: Once we realized we needed to move to another location, we asked the front desk for assistance. As it was after dinner and the front desk staff were also the bartenders (the bar is AT the front desk) it was difficult to keep their attention long enough to try to solve the problem. American Ex. travel came to the rescue and they booked us at an incredible Clarion in Kongsberg with delightful AC, delicious food, and a rooftop bar and spa. The price differential was $10 additional per night (worth exponentially more). We so far have not been refunded for our rooms, so we, in effect, paid double for our stays that night. If you prefer to stay in hotels that are a bit edgy and uncomfortable, then this is the place for you. It was inexpensive, but I honestly would not stay there even if it were free.

We really enjoyed our visit. The room was an excellent size, the bed was really comfortable, the staff were terrific, breakfast is first class. We ate in one night. Dinner was good if not exceptional. This was the one occasion the staff slipped up.

Reception staff were very welcoming and helpful, and happy to see us, noting that it was very quiet and only a handful of rooms were occupied in the first few days of our stay. The room on the 3rd floor was spacious and very pleasant. Two comfortable chairs to relax in, good work table, plenty of room for storage, and a very comfortable king bed, with soft pillows. The large windows offered a great view of the Vestlia ski area and the southern mountains beyond. But you will hear baby elephants (kids and adults alike) moving around in the floors above and below, and in the corridors - it’s family-friendly, so you have to expect this in holiday periods. Between-floor and between-room insulation is not great. Pretend that you’re staying in a youth hostel and you’ll be fine. It does generally go quiet after about 11pm, and remains so until baby elephant waking time. Bedside tables and individual light fittings (with power outlets) excellent. Wifi reliable and fast, TV adequate. General lighting per any Norwegian hotel - i.e. a little on the dark side. Nonetheless, a table lamp and a lamp stand adds just enough brightness. A full-length mirror on one of the cupboards can be pivoted for viewing. The bathroom was a generous size, clean, and modern, with good lighting, and excellent water pressure and heat in the shower, and even a plug for the sink (rare in our travels!), but no shampoo. The bathroom floor was not heated, surprisingly for Norway. The oddest thing was the non-usable hair dryer. Perhaps one day an electrician will wire it up so it can be used! No in-room safe, tea or coffee facilities - so it’s a walk down the steps to the dining area to discover the hot water urn and tea bags, instant coffee, and creamer sachets. Or pay for a hot chocolate. Or buy a drink at the bar. The door keys are the credit card variety, with the room number printed on the card (but no hotel information, so no issue about security if mislaid). Elsewhere in the hotel, plenty of public areas to relax in, a good sized ski storage area adjacent to the entrance, and a generally warm and cozy feel added to the more traditional mountain lodge style of family-run hotel. It’s not your average chain hotel. Food and dining was a very mixed bag. The included breakfast was surprisingly thin pickings. Good for regular Norwegian light breakfasts perhaps, but a poor choice of breads which were not always freshly baked. No croissants or other varieties of baked goods made it seem rather sparse in offerings. A lot of the platters looked tired: they appear to have been set out for a number of days. The cooked breakfast was nothing to write home about - no bacon on its own must upset a lot of Norwegians! Other hotels we’ve stayed in have offered fresher food and greater variety: smoothies, porridge, chocolate croissants, more cooked options. The service was a little haphazard, too: food not replenished without asking, plates and cutlery being removed too quickly, and no in
