Pros Great location for exploring Themal and provided you are not too high up, you shouldn't hear any road noise as it's set back. I was on the 4th floor and could hear the incessant beeping motorbikes but had moved from the first floor where i heard none (but was directly above the kitchen so could hear banging and chairs scraping from around 6am). 2nd floor is probably a good choice Staff were all excellent Room cleaned daily with 2 large bottles of water provided each day Breakfast was ok - decent variety of fruit, local and western with custom eggs. Coffee was instant though. Air con has heat facility No deposit required on check-in Toiletries provided Cons Some noise depending on your room location - dont stay in 107 or room directly above the kitchen/restaurant No safe for passport, cash etc in room Breakfast area isn't particularly clean i.e. dirty table cloths/mats Poor standard of fixtures/fittings e.g. gaps in windows and doors, curtains dont quite close right, dirty shower curtain, the rooms have seen better days but for the price its still good value. No coffee or milk in room (or 3-in one) No phone charging point near the bed Bathroom mat was old and dirty, no floor towel Tips: take extra passport photo if you intend to get a sim card at the airport, unlimited data one with nepal telecom cost me $10 - signal was mostly ok. Get your currency before you arrive or take enough to convert there, the atm machines are expensive Taxi from airport to Themal should be around 350 rupees working on 50 rupees per km plys 30 rupees start charge. You will be hounded relentlessly by people from the second you leave the plane for tour services etc. It may seem impolite but dont make eye contact, say no thank you and keep walking, otherwise you will spend your entire trip speaking to them. Right now its cold at night, pack accordingly. Be prepared to pay for everything, every temple, every place of historical interest - foreigners are charged around 1000-2000 rupees each time. E.g. all the Durbar squares, main stupas and temples. Don't assume that because Nepal is a developing country it is cheap. It isn't. In fact i found it comparable to some developed countries and not cheaper than say Thailand. A meal would cost me around 1000 rupees. In a smaller more local place you may pay 500. Don't take your new trainers, it's a very dirty, dusty city but exactly what you would expect if you've ever seen it on TV - it's all part of the experience. For exploring all of the main parts of Kathmandu, id say 5 days is a good amount of time. I recommend the everest helicopter tour but on that note i will say that tours are very expensive here, more expensive than even Hong Kong, Thailand, etc!! I ended up walking to the main temples, Chandragiri, Bakhtapur for the more local experience.

The hotel staff are exceptionally friendly, especially the manager, Mr. Gangar, who greeted us every morning with a warm smile. The location is convenient, about 20 minutes from Kathmandu Durbar Square. The hotel room was quite nice, but there were two minor issues: the flooring was sticky and uncomfortable to walk on barefoot, and there were no slippers provided. Additionally, there was no hand shower or shower cap available. Despite these small inconveniences, it was overall a pleasant stay at a good hotel.

Very friendly service at front desk. The best feature of this hotel is the lovely well maintained tranquil garden situated in the center of the building. It was a pleasure to sip a capuccino from the cafe situated next to the garden. Unbelievable for us having not visited Kathmandu in 20 years the arrival of good coffee A very short and interesting walk takes you to the bustle and noise of the Stupa. The room was adequate but like many rooms at this price point the only place to sit was on the bed. Our room had A/C but fortunately did not need it. The bathroom was clean but hot water only came intermittently during our stay. Management were helpful and always tried to fix the problem. Wifi likewise was a bit hit and miss. Sheets were were on the thin side but typical of hotels at this price point in Asia. Overall would recommend.

Me with my friends reached hotel after bike ride on 20/05/24 at 3.00 AM. We are six person and book room as we are tired so much. The on time manager told us that the room will available in very short interval as the rooms are occupied by traveller they will check out soon. We are so tired and we waited till 4 AM but they just told us that room will available soon. My friends are not happy but I convinced that we have no other option so I book 2 room and paid advance of 2 rooms. After 4.30 AM we get 1 room so my friends go that room. The bathroom is unhygienic not cleaned the room is not cleaned and having bad smell. 4 of my friends sleep there. I waited till 6.00 AM but second room is not available we awake full night I told that situation but staff not listening to us and told me ”on behalf of mercy I give you room” at that point I am blanked and not live in the hotel but I already paid advance of 2 rooms. The I book one room online and go to reception for give me back that adavance. He refused to me and misbehaving me. In morning this is the situation of hotel that no good behaviour with customer. I am very frustrating and whatever he want give money and go to another hotel which I booked online. Please if any one reading this review don't go to book room.

I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Baber Mahal Vilas. The staff are extremely friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. Alot of thought has gone into designing and furnishing the hotel, which has beautiful character and an interesting history. The rooms have lots of interesting decor features and are very comfortable. Availability of a spa is a treat. It feels like an oasis in the middle of the bustling city. Great food options. We will definitely be staying here again.

Jhapad,Rohit, Bikash, Nisto they are very kind and professional. They always checked if the food was okay and asked if he needed anything. Thank you for your care. Thanks to them, I was able to have a comfortable meal. I totally recommend the hotel breakfast restaurant.

Nice Old Hotel, Great Staff with few needs to improve. Swimming pool is totally disappointment. Better to shut down, than keep running and not swimmable, waist of energy. The water is dirty, no star at all. The lobby, the room and Ghurka bar are still great. 2 power shutdowns in 1 day, I believe they are struggling with power shortages due to dark lounges. Breakfast was so so, coffee or tea should be not a challenge to serve first, sometimes took half of meal before they come. Many Tables are not stable and aligned, egg can easily roll over to other side. Atleast 3 tables on my experience. Room is comfortable, nice bed and always fresh linen. Only noisy from AC , maintenance team came twice on my room to fix, though transfer was offered on my last 2 days. Managers should not standing in buffet line, either they should help the line staffs or directing the team, talking business in public is not of our guests concern. Front desk Trainee, has good presence, I thought first he is manager. A lot can be improved and polished, the hotel has a great potential, nice design, great facilities and great staffs. I wish that management should look all themselves and review those small details.
