"The best part about this hotel was definitely the breakfast – they had everything from Japanese to Western options. I especially loved the soba noodles and the fried eggs. The coffee was good too, and they offered various egg rolls. The room itself was quite spacious; we had no trouble fitting our two large suitcases. However, the bathroom was a bit small, feeling somewhat disproportionate to the rest of the room. The other hotel facilities were pretty basic; there wasn't much to attract us beyond just needing a place to sleep for the night. Because of this, paying over 3100+ per night (including breakfast) felt a bit expensive."

"What we liked: - The decor in the reception area with its big fireplace feels very welcoming and cosy and reminded me a bit of a British hunting lodge. Very stylish. We loved it! - Very nice terrace with torch light in the evening. Great atmosphere. - We also liked the glamping area in the forest next door, with its pub. - The room was quite spacious and very clean. - Very friendly staff, providing excellent service! What we didn't like so much: - It's a shame that the only two dinner options available are either buffet-style at the restaurant or barbecue in the glamping area. It would be nice to be able to have a served meal on the restaurant terrace, but unfortunately only buffet dinner is available. - So we opted for the barbecue, which was great - except for the fact that between the salad and the barbecue, we were served cheese fondue. Apart from the fact that summer doesn't quite feel like the right season for a fondue, it was very filling, so that we - sadly - had to leave behind quite a bit of the excellent meat and vegetables, as our stomachs were already quite full. My suggestion to the hotel management would be to skip the fondue (and reduce the price accordingly). Or at least add it as an option for those who really want it. That said, the local beef was fantastic, and we also liked the presentation. - Breakfast was a bit of a let-down for me as a Westerner. Only the standard choices of bread you find in most Japanese hotels (tiny soft croissants, soft rolls and toast). It would be great if some Swiss/German-style rustic bread choices were available as an alternative for those who don't like a Japanese breakfast. Also, the coffee (served from one of those big containers) was very disappointing. For an establishment like this, I would have expected an espresso machine, offering guests different kinds of coffee (cappuccino, cafe au lait, espresso), which should be seen as the general standard nowadays. - We didn't quite understand why the glamping area as well as the bar were only open until 9pm - in the middle of the summer holiday season! With no other places within walking distance (as far as we were aware), that very much limited our options for after-dinner drinks. There was live piano entertainment in the bar area near the reception, but it stopped at 9pm sharp, just as we were coming back from dinner in the glamping area. Such a shame! - While the room was OK (spacious, functional and clean), there is one thing that annoyed us: The step to get into the bathroom. I almost stumbled on two occasions when getting out of the bathroom, because I didn't expect a step to be there. I think it could potentially be quite dangerous. If there were a light at the bottom of the step, that would at least make it a bit safer. Overall a very nice stay, even though it was (unfortunately) only for one night."

"It’s a really cozy hostel with your own room. The staff is really welcoming and friendly, would really help you in any way possible. I dont mind the shared bathroom, I never had a problem with it and it was never full during my stay. The pillows were soft and there is also a heater. If I feel too warm I just open the windows. Location wise, it was a bit of a challenge to go up Goryu plaza since it was winter and it was a long ramp going up, maybe took me 10-12mins. I didn’t rent a car so I had to book an uber to and from Hakuba station. They only have 2 toilets in the male’s restroom in the 2nd flr"

"We had an awesome stay. We were in #3. We love our room! The room upstairs was spacious for a family of 4. Love the extra complimentary services provided during the day and night- free wine, free sake, free food tasting after 9pm. The reception staff were very helpful and friendly. The only thing is taxi is limited in Hakuba. Ask the reception staff to pre-book taxi if needed. Snow shuttle buses depart and drop off right at the accomodation. Not much food options around but you can purchase food in town."

The staff was incredibly friendly, the breakfast was delicious and plentiful, and the onsen was excellent, with a window overlooking a small garden. The room was traditionally decorated, had everything you needed, and the futon was very comfortable. I was very happy with everything! If I come back to Huckabee, I'll definitely stay here!"

"We recently returned from a ski week in Hakuba and absolutely loved our stay at The Happo. The location was absolutely perfect for us. Right in the core of the village with many transportation options to nearby resorts in the valley. This includes the hotel shuttle to Happoone, circulating hotel shuttles to other resorts that stop at the front door (Hakuba 47 and Goryu), as well as a short 5-minute walk to the bus station to access all other resorts in the valley. The property itself is beautiful with a fantastic onsite onsen on both the men's and women's side which includes hot pools, cold pools, showers and a sauna. Breakfast was delicious with eggs prepared to order and an extensive buffet of pastries, salads, fruits, juices, and some Japanese offerings. The ski lockers were large enough to fit 4 pairs of skis and included boot dryers along with space for jackets, helmets and other gear. The room itself was a comfortable place to boot up in the morning with long benches for ample seating. Our room was compact, but included a king bed with no center crease (i.e. not just two twin beds pushed together). The shower was strong, the TV large, and the bed was cozy. Plenty of places to charge electronics, the wardrobe contained amenities for the onsen, and there was a massager to help ease sore muscles. Finally, staff was extremely friendly and were able to assist with any requests or questions we had during our stay. This was our first trip to the Hakuba valley and we would definitely consider staying at The Happo for a future visit."
