PPengguna TetamuThe location is amazing and up until the last few hours we were very satisfied with our stay. They gave a free upgrade to their newly refurbished 4th floor and that room really was awesome. We were not aware they cooked dinner well so we are out but should have dined at the Homestay. Breakfast was very simple but satisfying. They provide a transfer to Shaolin in a super nice car and plenty of free water to take with you during the day. So far so good. Now perhaps we are lost in translation but we indicated having a ride to our next stop charging between 260 and 380 through the didi app. Waaayyyy to expensive they said and offered to call a cab. The cab however was 445, a much higher rate. All rates included the toll. We asked about the type of car and were shown a luxury car. That car and that price were similar to didi premier so we said okay. Then they said it would take half an hour. We didn’t want that so said we would just go for the didi. They then said the taxi would be there faster. As you may guess; it was not. We ended up waiting well over half an hour and the taxi was a regular taxi. They ride was good, driver friendly etc but we felt a bit off about the way this went down. Again: could be lost in translation here so if you just arrange your own ride you will have an awesome stay with them. Ask for the nice room on floor 4! Picture is the view from our room.

PPengguna TetamuGorgeous lobby and spacious room decorated in an elegant classic style. My partner celebrated his birthday during our 5 night stay but didn't receive anything from the hotel - in other 5 star hotels of this calibre all around the world, reception staff would have paid attention to this detail when they photocopied our passports at the point of checking in. That was a tad disappointing. However, special mention must be made of Wang Fei (王飞）at the concierge/porter division on the ground floor - he was extremely helpful and congenial, and a true asset to the hotel.

PPengguna TetamuStaff was zealous in sharing the products sold in the lobby. Got a free room upgrade. Hotel room was extremely clean. There’s a free shuttle to airport and the transport left promptly. It was nice that there was a night market nearby that sold tasty food.

AAERUMPURAKKAL SUBRAHMANIANrecently stayed at the Chanwu Hotel in Dengfeng, and overall, it was a memorable experience, deeply rooted in its unique martial arts and Zen cultural theme. The hotel, rated as a four-star property, lives up to its reputation with a grand, opulent design that blends traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern comforts. The martial arts exhibitions, including a nightly Kung Fu show that outshone the one at Shaolin Temple, were a highlight, immersing guests in the local culture. The rooms were spacious, clean, and beautifully appointed with antique-style furniture, creating a museum-like atmosphere that felt both luxurious and authentic. The vegetarian restaurant offered tasty, culturally significant dishes, though the breakfast buffet lacked Western options and the coffee could use improvement. The location is ideal, just 9 km from Shaolin Temple and close to other attractions like Songyang Academy, making it perfect for exploring Dengfeng’s cultural landmarks.
As for the receptionist, Miss 李, she was exceptional. Her warm, friendly demeanor and proactive assistance stood out, as she helped with everything from organizing transportation to answering queries with a smile. Reviews consistently praise the front desk staff, and Miss 李 embodied the hotel’s “customer first” philosophy, making our stay feel personalized and welcoming. Her attentiveness, along with the staff’s overall service, truly enhanced the experience, ensuring we felt cared for throughout our visit.

LLuobinI went for the cheapest and most basic room, and it was very cheap! So whilst this review might seem negative here and there, it's merely a description of what I expected.
Firstly, it was January and was unusually cold for Zhengzhou, having recently snowed and with sub-zero temperatures. So I expected the room to be cold, as heating isn't the norm in this part of China (as it is in the North).
But the air con which one normally relies on, only blew cold air and for some reason wouldn't go above 17°C, so I turned it off. (pic)
The room had windows, but was behind a facade and allowed in very little daylight. (pic is the daytime pic of the window without the room lights on).
Instead of the Queen bed I expected, I had two very large singles, so I doubled up on the duvets and I was very warm whilst in bed.
I found the small things annoying, like plastic slippers that hurt your feet (pic) that other people have worn; coat hangers in the bathroom but not even a nail in the door to hang your coat. I used a broken edge of the door to hang my coat(pic) .
And two paper cups (no bottled water but the kettle worked well).
And only one towel, albeit a large one.
And the big gap all around door (pic) which let in smoking smells from other rooms, as well as the light from the hall.
The pillows, and bedding were comfortable and clean. The hot water was hot (I didn't dare to shower because of the cold).
The w/c functioned well, and although the beds were characteristically hard, I slept very well.
There were better rooms free which they could have given me, but they chose to give me an inferior room, which I am reviewing.
The TV worked but I couldn't get any channels on it. I've successfully used that type of TV before so I don't know what I was doing wrong.
WiFi was good.
The decor appeared 'grubby' but this is normal in China.
Check-in was quick and OK.
I booked a (free) lift to airport for the next morning, but when I turned up at the time agreed, there was nobody at reception, so I took the subway, which was adequate.
I recommend it if you are on a budget. It was cheap.
I'll try somewhere else next time. The location is great and there's an abundance of hotels in the area.
