PPengguna TetamuThe location is 15-20 minute walk from the Shaolin scenic area so is a convenient pick if you’re coming here to explore Shaolin Scenic area. There are a few things I’d like to note for fellow travelers:
- The homestay provides good home cooked food at a reasonable price however the price of food in the main downtown is even cheaper and worth exploring
- It is a family run business of course being a homestay however the daughter, the dad and the mom run it together and often don’t communicate between each other which can be a bit annoying (I would receive a message from the daughter about something I’d already spoken to the mom about)
- The room itself was great, super clean and good amenities
- Another pair of travelers informed me that they were scammed by the homestay with taxi booking (Homestay promised a cheaper price but ended up being more expensive)
Overall, it’s a decent pick if you’re here to explore the Shaolin scenic area however a bit overpriced for what it is. I would recommend exploring hotels in the Dengfeng/Zhongyue downtown area too (short taxi ride from the Shaolin scenic area).

My partner celebrated his birthday during our 5 night stay but didn't receive anything from the hotel - in other 5 star hotels of this calibre all around the world, reception staff would have paid attention to this detail when they photocopied our passports at the point of checking in. That was a tad disappointing. However, special mention must be made of Wang Fei (王飞）at the concierge/porter division on the ground floor - he was extremely helpful and congenial, and a true asset to the hotel.

AAERUMPURAKKAL SUBRAHMANIANrecently stayed at the Chanwu Hotel in Dengfeng, and overall, it was a memorable experience, deeply rooted in its unique martial arts and Zen cultural theme. The hotel, rated as a four-star property, lives up to its reputation with a grand, opulent design that blends traditional Chinese aesthetics with modern comforts. The martial arts exhibitions, including a nightly Kung Fu show that outshone the one at Shaolin Temple, were a highlight, immersing guests in the local culture. The rooms were spacious, clean, and beautifully appointed with antique-style furniture, creating a museum-like atmosphere that felt both luxurious and authentic. The vegetarian restaurant offered tasty, culturally significant dishes, though the breakfast buffet lacked Western options and the coffee could use improvement. The location is ideal, just 9 km from Shaolin Temple and close to other attractions like Songyang Academy, making it perfect for exploring Dengfeng’s cultural landmarks.
As for the receptionist, Miss 李, she was exceptional. Her warm, friendly demeanor and proactive assistance stood out, as she helped with everything from organizing transportation to answering queries with a smile. Reviews consistently praise the front desk staff, and Miss 李 embodied the hotel’s “customer first” philosophy, making our stay feel personalized and welcoming. Her attentiveness, along with the staff’s overall service, truly enhanced the experience, ensuring we felt cared for throughout our visit.
