The Lorne Pier to Pub swim takes in the Lorne Pier and the Lorne Hotel, which is metres from the ocean. It's one of the world's most popular open water races, over 1.2 km and 5 km courses. The swim is organised by the Lorne Surf Life Saving Clubs. It was originally intended to be a fun swim, but now the winner achieves great honour.

We came to resort for a weekend getaway… and this definitely has a top location and beautiful sea views. However location alone doesn’t make a stay pleasurable. The room was neatly made and had great appliances( probably great if staying here during summer for a longer stay). No towels initially but this was an oversight, reception were great and supplied some. The restaurant that was at the entrance was shut down and dilapidated… gave resort a forlorn and very dated look. Other residents had their young children screaming through corridors, which echoed at 7 am Sunday morning. So not ideal if you want a couples escape. Mattress on hard side and overly full pillows… but again, other people might like that. For the 420 AU a night without breakfast I would prefer to stay somewhere less dated and a place that offers at least some breakfast options.

Glamping in the eco tents was a wonderful experience. The tents are on a platform so you are above the lawn where the kangaroos gather and cockatoos come and land on the verandah. The small room is so cosy with a comfy double bed with electric blankets and there’s also bunk beds. There’s a small lounge/kitchen area with a couch as well as microwave, kettle, toaster and fridge but there’s a Weber bbq outside. In the cupboard there’s everything required incl a selection of teas plus coffee and hot choc, spray oil as well as crockery and cutlery plus milks in the fridge. There’s also a tv, fan and blow heater which quickly heated up the room. It’s just a five min drive from the town but feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere and the properties are nicely spread out and private and with a balcony with chairs and table you feel at one with nature. There are a few fire pits outside all ready to go for a fun way to watch the wildlife and chill out. A really super place to spend a few days run by a lovely couple.

The draw card here is the location. On the beach, beautiful. We made a booking for an ocean view room, when we arrived our room had been given to someone else at the error of junior staff. We ended up with a partial ocean view room. The staff handled the situation best they could and provided us with a complimentary bottle of wine which was appreciated. Despite the excellent location, the room was very worn out but clean. The bathtub enamel was coming off in patches which was a little gross to put your feet on. You can see by the beautiful landscape and design of the original hotel that, in its heyday, it would have been the height of luxury. Overall, we were disappointed by the rooms but thrilled with the location. There is a lot of potential here but the pricing doesn't reflect the standard of the rooms at this stage.

2 nights stay in “California Room” at Lorne World. Really lovely room, comfortable bed, clean and a great view of the ocean. Tea, coffee, microwave, fridge, kettle and coffee maker provided. Lovely outdoor area with chairs and tables to relax and enjoy the view.

Terry and the team at the Anchorage are welcoming. The Motel is spotless clean and the rooms are brilliant too. Location is perfect for the foreshore and close to all the local shops, etc. We had a studio, bright and decorated clean, with a microwave and tea making / fridge. On site pool if you want one. Free parking. Support a local business. A fantastic one-night stay. Thank you (Liam & Jon), woof, to Ziggy!
