"The hotel is running a Special Autumn offer, if you book by the 6th September you get a special price. I phoned the hotel to ask about this. We wanted to stay in a Superior room at €179 per night to include breakfast. I was quoted €270 for the room that was on offer at €179. When I asked about the higher price some sort of excuse was mumbled and I was immediately quoted the correct price of €179. I gave my email address and I was told that a confirmation would be posted to me. It never arrived. I later discovered that my confirmation was sent to another person's email address. I asked was it possible to have an early check-in as we wanted to arrive early and have lunch in the hotel. I was told to ring back on the day of our stay. I did this and a different person was happy to have our room ready between 1 and 1.30 pm. This was great. Our superior room was a large lovely room with nice walk-in shower. Decor was nice but with an abundance of decorative pillows and a throw that were good for photos but not needed. They ended up on a spare chair in the room for the duration of our stay. I was surprised not to see a luggage rack for our suitcases. We had to open our cases on the floor. We were greeted with a lovely selection of small tasty cakes and a welcome letter. Good coffee machine. Water is available on the floor landing. You fill up a jug with flat or sparkling water. Great idea. The shower room was nice but there was nowhere to hang a towel and no shelf in the shower cubicle to store anything. There was one hook on the back of the door. Nice fluffy towels. Our room was excessively warm. I was told that I could open the windows when I made my initial phone enquiry. I was not told that you can open them by about 2 inches only. I think, even allowing for security issues that they could be allowed to open wider. There was an extremely heavy duvet on the bed that added to an uncomfortable nights sleep. Lunch in the hotel bar was not great. €24.50 for roast lamb that was thinly sliced, dry and tough. That evening we were not hungry but decided that we would like a plate of chips. After ordering a young lady placed two bowls of chips on the table in front of us. No ketchup offered, no fork to eat them, no serviette. I had to ask for ketchup....twice before she got it for me. I also had to ask for a serviette....but still no fork. Absolutely dreadful service. The two bowls cost us €12. Breakfast was good with a selection for everybody. We enjoyed a lovely walk in their beautiful gardens and chatted with the head gardener. This was nice. It's a nice hotel but the bar area needs a complete makeover. Pink and brown chairs with pink overhead lights and a cheap looking cocktail bar at one end didn't encourage us to stay and have a drink. (on a sunny day there are nice outdoor seating spaces). We ended up going up the town to a more traditional bar."

"The castle is beautiful, and the service is very friendly. There are many students working here, some of whom are quite new. You can tell they're new to the place by the service. The area is lovely for hiking and cycling. It was perfect for two nights. The rooms are a bit noisy. Anita at reception was the best. Thanks for everything! :-)"
