Hotel di Northern Lapland

We didn't realise that when we booked 3 nights from 5 April, that we would be getting there a week or so before the spring close for a few months. But this probably made what was a fantastic break. Now I realise that for families, the December/January is a must for the whole Santa/Christmas/New Year experience. Combined with very cold temperatures, and snow covering everything. But when I heard that the resort caters for up to 800 guests, I can only imagine how mad busy it is, with people everywhere. For my family of four (daughters in their 20's) we were amongst only 40 other guests staying at the time. It was brilliant. There was still loads of snow on the ground but just the trees had shed theirs and were green. But there was no one in the other keto igloos around us and when we walked out most times there was no-one in sight and you could look far in the distance and just see snow, trees....and no humans. a true wilderness experience. We caught a slight glimpse of the Northern Lights on our first night but not really in full glory, but I think that's a chance you take at any time of the year. We did the snowmobile - Quite fun but the risk of paying up to 1200 euros for any damage caused (as told sternly by the guide) made us keep to the speed limits! The Reindeer Aurora Hunt in the evening was OK but if you don't get to see the lights can be a bit boring and hard work on the bum sitting in the sleigh. I can imagine that it could be even harder work in colder temperatures. The Husky ride was the best by far - Great stuff. I think two hours of each activity is enough. Breakfast options were a little limited, with yukky reindeer sausages. Would have been great to have a bacon option. The evening meals were lovely - Again, I believe that it's buffet style in peak season and I have read a lot of criticism. During this quieter time we were given menu options and enjoyed it every night. Definitely pack snacks with you if you can as they are very expensive at the resort. We spent a fair amount on cocktails for the girls and beer for me - Expensive but had good choices. No need to buy bottled water as the water coming from the tap was almost ”mountain spring” - And I should know as drinking water is my profession! I took a tip from another reviewer and had a small container that I asked reception to fill with milk which I took back to make our cuppa's- They don't sell milk, just provide those small sachets. We got the private taxi there and back - Good that it takes, and picks up from your accommodation. I could image it can be quite a trek getting luggage to and from some of the accommodation as they can be far away from reception. Staff were friendly but again, they were not under pressure and were all going home for a few months a week or so after our stay. So, in summary a great stay and if you don't need the Santa experience, but want a great service experience, then March / April would be better.

Wow what can I say!!!! Amazing. We came for 10 days over new years with my husband and three children aged 8,11,13. From start to finish we had a great holiday. Accommodation - We had a cabin double bedroom downstairs (very small) and a mezzanine upstairs with three beds for the children. Cabin had a lounge area with tv and kitchen nook and table and chairs. Bathroom with inbuilt sauna. Only downside of the cabin was there wasn’t a huge amount of storage. Nowhere to store clothes in the bedroom at all. We lived out of suitcases. Resort itself not huge. Had a luxury feel. We didn’t want a commercialised holiday and this was perfect. Staff couldn’t have been more friendly. Dining room has a panoramic view over the frozen lake which was beautiful. Food - buffet every night. we mostly ate from the buffet every night as there was so much choice and the quality was really good. Expect some reindeer dishes but also standard pasta etc. A couple of times we used the a La crate menu just to try a few dishes. There is also a children’s menu at no extra cost doing pasta, burgers etc which you can order from. Breakfast was so much choice my children especially loved the waffles! Activities - we had pre booked activities but found it easy to swap and change them weather dependent and if we were doing too much on one day. Take advantage of the hotel clothing provided. They provide all outer gear including boots. Every size available and good quality. The clothing area is open twice a day. Huskies were awesome. Got to ride a fair distance taking it in turns to mush. We even got to see the new puppies. Snowmobile trecking. Unfortunately children have to be over 16 to sit on the snowmobiles. My children were pulled in a sledge by the guide while my husband and I drove our own snowmobiles. Be warned they were cold. Wrap them up extra warm for this activity. Snowshoeing this was a lovely activity with a great guide who was super knowledgeable. Aurora camp. Lovely chance to get into the wilderness at dark. Reindeer farm. Got to feed and pet the reindeer and learn lots about the Sami culture . Always free sledges around the resort and plenty of places for children to sledge all day New year was great. The staff made a special effort. We dressed up went into the dining room. Special food. A singer. And at midnight we went into the frozen lake. Where we all were given champagne and watched amazing fireworks over the ice. Super special. The resort itself is within walking distance about half an hours walk from town. Not a huge amount in the town. A super market, church bar (with great hot chocolate) and a souvenir shop. All in all this was a fantastic holiday somewhere special to go for new year and we also got to see the aurora!

Dari segi prestasi kos, hotel ini dianggap sangat tinggi di kalangan hotel rumah kaca. Ia agak sukar untuk ditemui. Selepas bas turun dari bas, terlalu sukar untuk menyeret bagasi di dalam salji. Kemudian, saya menghubungi penyambut tetamu hotel untuk menghantar kereta atas perbelanjaan saya sendiri. Anda boleh menempah tunggangan giring, kereta salji, mengejar aurora dan projek lain di hotel. Keseluruhannya bagus!

Very friendly and helpfull service, great location in the middle of Ivalo. And very comfy overall. We were allowed to check in over 2 h early after a very stressfull flight and check out a hour late without additional charge. The room was comfy and big with a great view. Breakfast could be better but the dinner was always great.

Thank you for making this once in a lifetime so amazing. We went here to take my son to go and see Santa through Jet2 this trip was excellent and something as a family we will never forget. This hotel is brilliant and positioned in a lovely area. Maybe could do with a little bit if a update with new carpet and maybe a paint job but nothing that will effect your holiday. Tv is also poor but as so active didn’t really miss it what I mean would he nice to have one English Channel considering I say most your visitors are English. Also could do with the beer being a bit cheaper as worked out nearly £9 a pint but I was expecting that. All these are little things that may improve overall you still get a 5 star from me. Must also mention all staff very friendly. Wouldn’t think twice about coming back one day in the future.

Staffs are kind and good at English so I didn't have any difficulty of communication. I recommend to buy a spa included ticket and enjoy the Finnish sauna. For the foods, you have to pay for the dinner buffet but the quality is really good. It was worth every penny. There was nothing inconvenient at all. If I had to pick one, there were no amenities in the bathroom only except soap.

We stayed at this beautiful hotel for 3 nights early December as part of the TUI package to Lapland. On-route to the hotel we stopped off to get our winter gear. Transfer around 1hour 30mins. The resort of Luosto has a few hotels, ski slope, souvenir shops and reasonable priced supermarket. The average cost for a glass of wine and beer is £10+ . Room: Very spacious, we had a double bed and sofa bed in another room. Sauna was an added bonus. If you wanted any housekeeping you just had to ask at the front desk. We stored our snow gear in the ground floor heated room which was handy. Location: The hotel was just a 5 minute walk to the ski slope. As a family of 3 we all had a 45 minute lesson for around £130. This is where you can also sledge and go tubing this cost us 20 euros for as long as you liked. I highly recommend this it was so much fun. There is also a nice restaurant/bar here. Staff: I would like to say a big thank you to all the staff who were always helpful and friendly. Also small bar area and nice seats by the log fire. Restaurant: Lovely restaurant area and friendly staff. We were half board breakfast was a continental option with lots of choice including porridge. We were half board and the food was fresh and delicious. We didn’t have a choice it was just a set 3 course but luckily we are not fussy eaters. We were a bit disappointed that there was no children’s menu as there was no way my son would eat reindeer or fish soup. So we had a takeaway from a lovely restaurant just down the road called Puna Kettu. Here you could have lovely pizzas and fries. Trips: We had the taster sessions on the Saturday where you have a try of the reindeer ride, husky, snow mobile - I would say just around a few minutes but sometimes that is enough for the younger ones. This day was around -20 but lovely cabins to have a hot chocolate and warm up by the fire. When we went to see Santa this lasted under 60 seconds wasn’t personal and he looked very fake. So that aspect of it was very disappointing. We paid extra for the night snow mobile tour which was 3 hours. We stopped off in a hut half way through the journey to light a fire and to have berry juice. We are so glad we done the trip as we were so lucky to see the Northern Lights. We also paid for the husky ride which was 2 hours, this was a great trip again where you have the chance to meet the dogs and drive the sled. Again these were cold days around -20. On the return home we stopped off in Santa Village, lots of souvenir shops. I have rated the hotel a 4* due to there being no child menu at the hotel. I think they should offer fries at least as guests at the other hotels had a separate menu for children. We would love to return to Lapland but unfortunately it cost so much money. It was something we are so glad we experienced and created so many memories, such a beautiful and picturesque place. You will not be disappointed going to this hotel and it comes highly recommended. You won’t be disappointed at the Aurora village restaurant, the lunch buffet is value for money and the set menu for dinner is worth travelling all the way there for. No bookings are needed for lunch but must book for dinner especially during the Christmas holidays. I recommend you take the second seating as an excuse to have a Glogi or a bubbly with winter berries by their fire place. Wonderful place to relax and absorb the warm cosy atmosphere. You can request food requirements such as no eggs or no nuts in advance. Menu for the week is online. Hyvää ruokahalua!

Our review is a bit late, as we stayed at Giellajohka in March 2022 for our wedding. We had a wonderful time in this peaceful, unique place in the middle of the wilderness. While we were there we enjoyed hiking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, and we took 2 extra unique excursions of ice-fishing and reindeer day which we’ll treasure forever. The family were so friendly and accommodating, and came up with good ideas for our wedding day which we happily accepted and made the day even more perfect. Eating in the restaurant was always a treat with the varied local menus, and the company of Miuku and Onni (friendly cat and dog). The cottage where we stayed (Taiga) was very modern and comfortable with great views over the frozen river. We were lucky to observe the Northern Lights on several nights during our stay. We look forward to visiting again, next time perhaps seeing what it is like in summer. Highly recommended!
