"Officially our 1st stop on our Peru tour - a quick 1 hour flight from Lima and another 90min drive from Cusco to the Sacred Valley. It was a very interesting drive (shortcuts to avoid main roads). But the destination was so worth the anticipation. At Belmond Hotel Rio Sagrado we found our little piece of paradise. It’s peaceful. Tranquil. And the perfect place to acclimate to the new altitude of approx 2700m above sea level. I’d strongly suggest not staying in Cusco and spending all your time doing day trips (and hours in a shuttle) to explore the Sacred Valley. Rather stay here and explore at a leisurely pace - with all the key “must see” spots fairly close"

"We loved our stay here and the Casita we had was spacious and very comfortable. The menu needs to be changed or added to as was difficult to have dinner here more than one night. Breakfast was just ok they couldn’t seem to be able to cook eggs. Our server Karla was so lovely and efficient. Regardless of the food not being great we still had a Lovely stay. The common areas are super comfy and the fireplace adds a nice touch to make it super cosy."

"A hotel with rooms laid out in beautiful gardens with a spring and little bridges. Rooms are spacious and characterful - rooms and gardens are excellent. Everything fantastic - except breakfast which is good but lacking vegan options and decent healthy breads, cereals and avocado. Menu in evening has very few vegan options (unlike many other hotels). Waiter Frank is excellent and always helpful and friendly. Enjoyed my stay here lots."

"Our stay at Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel was excellent. The hotel is new, well maintained, and is an ideal place to enjoy a comfortable rest before visiting Machu Picchu. The service was warm and attentive from the moment we arrived. A staff member was waiting for us at the train station and assisted with our luggage both to the hotel and back to the station upon departure. Our room was comfortable, and the bed provided a much-needed good night’s sleep. The hotel is also conveniently located within a short walk of the bus departure point for Machu Picchu. Everything was clearly explained during check-in, while the check-out process was equally smooth and well organised. Overall, Sumaq Machu Picchu Hotel offers excellent service, comfortable accommodation, and a convenient location. We would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a relaxing stay before visiting Machu Picchu."

"Excellent service and hospitality provided by Katty, Nelson and the staff in restaurant and the bar ! Even the lady in gift shop was so attentive ! What an excellent location to stay in to immerse in Maccu Piccu energy ! Love the drinks and cuisines prepared, I would say the best meals I had in Peru for both lunch and dinner. Of course it is a pamper for staying in Belmond !"

"Very disappointing experience. Two room changes before we were given on that did NOT face the noisy road. Noise in lobby was evident in our room on the third floor, with door closed. The restaurant recommended by several recent guests was closed, so we ate in the large, cold and very echoey restaurant on the first floor, to the accompaniment of loud insistent music. Staff informed us that the fire laid in the fireplace could not be lit, chicken salad sandwich was “finished” but chicken breast was available… No water in the room for brushing teeth… Decor dated. Would not recommend this hotel. Gave two stars instead of one as bed comfortable and shower was fine."

"I could see the mountains from the room, lie in a hammock in the spacious yard to watch the stars, and the owner was friendly. It was clearly a great value accommodation, but I had a terrible experience. I had prepaid via KakaoPay through Trip.com, but they were adamant, claiming they hadn't received any transfer. It seemed pointless to argue, so I paid by card and stayed for two nights. Although the issue was eventually resolved through Trip.com, it seems they struggled to fix it as well. I had breakfast at the restaurant and left my hat on the table; when I went back to look for it a few hours later, the restaurant staff said they didn't know anything about it. I don't know if the owner was lying or what, but I can't understand why it has a perfect 10 rating. Korean guests, please take note. The owner reportedly said, "We don't accept bank transfers here; we only accept card payments!""

"Firstly I will start with the positives, the hotel was nice with beautiful greenery surrounding. The decor certainly wasn’t modern however it was perfectly fine. Secondly the negatives, customer service was inadequate. Two of us are vegetarian and one morning we had to leave before breakfast opened so were told we would have ‘takeaway breakfast’. We clarified that these would be vegetarian three times (at checkin, the night before and in the morning when collecting the bags) but when we got on our journey we found they both contained ham. This is absolutely unacceptable and I hope they treat allergens more seriously or they could kill someone. When we mentioned this to the receptionist she just smiled and nodded and said ‘oh okay’, which is not an acceptable response. Also you have to pay for water here which we were absolutely fine with. When we bought a second lot on the second day we realised we had paid double the amount the previous day. When I said this to the receptionist again she just nodded and after a long pause said she would call someone. Other members of our tour group also agreed they had paid double the price the previous day. The following morning the receptionist was extremely rude and told us we were lying. She also told us, in a borderline threatening manner, that everything we do is on camera which is a bit weird given we were in a hotel so hoping she didn’t mean ‘everything’ as that’s a gross invasion of privacy. When we asked to watch the camera footage she was speaking of she told us it wasn’t available. The amount of money was not significant but the reaction of staff was wholly inappropriate - especially for a hospitality business. Overall would not recommend anyone stay here. Customer service skills require a lot of improvement."

"Super new hotel in a great location. We had a suite with a whirlpool which was really relaxing. The room was big and had comfortable beds and a balcony with a great view. The breakfast was also good with omelettes, flat rolls, sausage/cheese/cereal, fruit, tea/coffee, all served to the guests. The view from the 8th floor was very nice. The roof terrace on the 9th floor was excellent. And of course Nataly has to be mentioned. She was sooooo nice. Thank you so much for that. On Saturdays you have to be aware that there is a disco below and it can be very loud."
