A lovely little hotel! Don’t let the approach fool you - it doesn’t look much from the outside but it really is lovely. The room we had was spacious and clean with a gorgeous view of the the mountain and the beach. The bathroom was clean and had a good shower. There isn’t anywhere else to go and eat so either plan accordingly or have the buffet at the restaurant - it’s expensive but as a one off it was worth it! The staff were incredibly helpful too - we’d been having some issues with our car and they were more than willing to help us out! Make sure you take a visit down the road to see the seals!

The Hotel and the room was very nice. We arrived on Friday, after driving straight from work, to the Hotel at quarter to 6 pm. In our reservation we had a gift certificate for a 3 course meal. The reception said we had to hurry because dinner should start at 6pm. We asked if we could come a little later or maybe between 6.30 or 7 but the receptionist said NO, because then we would get our meal much later. We hurried up to our room and got dressed and went down to the restaurant. The restaurant was empty, we were the only ones there. We sat down and our starter came out within two minutes. When we hadn´t finished the waiter asked if we were done and we said wait a minute and tried to finish as quick as possible. When the waiter saw we had finished the starter she came and took our dishes and handed out the main course(straight away). It felt like they were trying to get o-us out of there as soon as possible. We took our time with the main course, it was obvious that our dinner had been made somewhere else or just earlier that day because it was just heated up for us and not cooked when ordered. When we got our dessert, at about 6:40, other hotel guests started arriving. Then we saw that they also had the same gift certificate and exactly the same meals. We found it strange why we had to hurry up to come down at 6pm and not everybody else. Sorry this service was not a good experience and the dinner just flat. This could have easily been a great experience if the service had been up to par with the room and look of the Hotel itself.

A new, modern, clean hotel. I absolutely LOVE the design of the hotel. Most of the hotels I stayed in Iceland were dated and tired, this one really stood apart. The room was roomy. There is a walk in shower. There is a floating shower wall, no door. So water got all over the bathroom floor. These floating shower glass walls are a new concept and cool in theory, but in use are not very practical. Toiletries are available in big squeeze bottles attached to the wall. There is no lotion, so make sure to bring your own. I absolutely loved the bathroom mirror with the sidelights. In fact, I loved it so much I will be looking to buy one for myself at home. There is a large vanity, so plenty of space for your stuff - which is not the case in the other hotels I stayed in Iceland. The room had a full length mirror, heavy dark black out curtains, safe, small fridge, hair dryer, tea and coffee kettle, spacious luggage bench which I loved, 2 chairs. There is an open concept closet. The lobby is cool. There is a little bar, and some nice couches so you can lounge and relax. The spa in the basement looks nice. I was only there one night, so didn't have time to utilize. There is a sauna and steam room for 2500IKR, and spa treatments available. There is a small church next door. Otherwise, it is in the middle of nowhere. You have no choice but to eat here or rent a car to go elsewhere. I had dinner and breakfast in the restaurant. For dinner, I had cured salmon and spring mix appetizer, chicken breast with carrots, and chocolate mousse, and a red wine. It was pretty good. Breakfast was a buffet - salmon, meats & cheeses, some veg, skyr, 4 hot trays. The staff was very nice. Everyone I interacted with was helpful and friendly. CONS: location- can't walk to anything fridge - the fridge whined all night long so I didn't get a great sleep. I probably should have got out of bed and unplugged it. floating shower door - water all over bathroom floor without great drainage. no lotion I couldn't figure out the bed light switch, so had to get out of bed and try to find the master switch in the dark.

We rented a cottage for two nights. The cottage was cheaply furnished but clean. The staff was very nice, so based on the accomdations, I would have given them a 4 or a five. However, I was very dissapointed in the breakfast and dinner which I would have rated a 2 or 3. I could not find the resort's restaurant , Hladan on trip advisor, so I lumped the hotel and dinnning room together for a 3 . They serve breakfast starting late at 8:00AM. Everything other place that I have been to in Iceland started breakfast at 7:00AM so you can get an early start. The first morning everything was ready at 8:00AM. However the second morning at 8:00 they were still putting food out and by the time we left at 8:30AM they still had not put everything out. Dinner was a joke as it was so limited. The first night they only had one appetizer, which was a soup ,and two entrees, a fish dish and a lamb dish. This was one of the mosty expensive dinners on our 12 day Icelandic trip. However, the quality was average. The next night we were told that it was essentially the same limited menu, so we ate elsewhere. The resort advertizes a dinner buffet, but I am not sure how often they have it, since it was not offered the two nights we stayed there.

We only stayed here one night as we were just travelling the Snaefelssness penninsula. Its right near Kirkjufell. Close to town so easy to get dinner. Really a very nice clean, modern room. Full kitchen. If I lived in Iceland I would escape there for the weekend.

This is a wonderful place to stay in an absolutely enchanting town! Grundarfjörður is far better than the guidebooks make it out to be. And the Old Post Office is really the perfect spot. The rooms aren't big but they're well appointed and the shower is wonderful! It's quiet and the blackout curtains do a great job in the summer. From this perfect vantage point, it's a wonderful and easy walk to the base of the Kirkjufell Mountain and the delight waterfalls. In town, there are two amazing coffee shops (Valeria which is run by a wonderful Colombian expat and the bookstore/cafe Graena Kompaniið which is run by two wonderful Icelandic women). Dinner at Bjargarsteinn Mathus is first rate. And, you can't miss the great studio of the sculptor and artist, Ludvik Karlsoon. Really, this town is a delight. We spent two nights there - one very full day - and we did not regret it. It's still coming to me in my dreams long after!

Don't let the fact that this hotel is listed as a one star hotel put you off, I have stayed in 5 star hotels that are not as clean or welcoming. On arrival we received a friendly greeting, and although we were early we were able to go to our room. Although the rooms are not be biggest or packed with modern facilities, we again didn't need that. Who needs a TV when you have such stunning places to visit outside. As above the room was clean the beds were combatable, I asked for and received an extra pillow with no issues. The hotel is located close to the shops so provisions are not an issue and food can be cooked in the dining room, if you wish. We were there in off season so breakfast was not being served but a simple breakfast was provided in the mornings tea, coffee and hot chocolate all day. The sauna and hot tub were a great place to watch the northern lights. After a couple of days we were moved to a sea facing cabin, as we were staying a week again this was very clean and had the addition of a small kitchen and dining area. I would definitely recommend this hotel and would happily go back there.

Stay for one night to explore deeply on Snæfellsjökull Peninsula, nice hotel with some restaurants nearby. Good for the road trip traveller.
Arnarstapi Hotel

Perfectly fine but if you’re budget conscious, this isn’t the place to spend extra $$. After looking at options on the peninsula, this seemed like the best option, even though it was more expensive than other options. The view was great but not really worth paying more when all we really wanted was good food and a comfy place to sleep. Did not love our meals, pretty bland overall. Also, the pillows on the bed were flat. The room was clean and the staff were friendly, but not a great value for what you get.
