Absolutely brilliant and absolute beachfront. Don't believe the BS reviews saying places like Stopforths are 10/10. If you want to be on the beach this place is brilliant. Huge modern rooms, friendly and helpful staff too. Easy parking and NW Supermarket is across the road. Not sure how other properties in Hokitika rate so highly. We've stayed at most and nothing comes close to this place backed on location and price.

We arrived at the hotel and had a pang of disappointment. It looks quite austere from the outside. When we entered we were very pleasantly surprised. It is modern, clean and well laid out. We were greeted by Kelly who is absolutely wonderful at her job. She is so enthusiastic and welcoming - the best Kiwi welcome of our road trip so far. She gave us some great recommendations of things to do and places to go in the area. We went to our room and it was huge! Two double beds and a lovely bathroom (and a great shower). It had obviously been refurbished recently to a very good standard. The bed was very comfortable. We were on the top (6th) floor with great views. We had a nightcap in the evening -the bar is well stocked with some great gins. Kelly and Ella chatted with us like old friends and we had a lovely time and found out lots more what the area had to offer....so much so that we booked another night! Another nightcap and another great chat with Kelly and Ella again. We didn't have dinner in the restaurant but breakfast was superb and the coffee outstanding. Great staff, comfortable room and in the middle of town with its own parking.....what more could you ask?

Liked · If the term ”Serentity” ever suited a location, it's the Mount Cook View Motel, the Motel's setting in Fox Glacier is at the base of Mount Cook. The Mount Cook View Motel is a one minute drive from the highway down a Dead End Road, so there is no passing traffic noise. The motel has a ranch/farm like setting in a unique leafy & grassy enviroment that leaves (not meant as a pun) you feeling at one with the environment & nature. The silence is almost deafening as you try & take in all the spectacular surroundings of snow capped peaks, clouds snagged on jagged mountain tops, in a spacious farmland retreat. Anyone trying to escape the hustle & bustle of the city, anyone who wants to write their own Tolstoy ”War & Peace” novel or just wants to escape from the kids for a quite weekend. Well this is the place for that. Fox Glacier town has restaurants, shops & stores, all that one needs for a weekend away with nature. We had a cabin type apartment, seperate bedroom, bathroom, kitchen & backyard patio with views you just have to experience to believe. All that & with parking at the door & an attached laundry next door. SENERITY NOW.

We stayed for 2 nights and had a lovely stay. The hostel was super clean, cosy with a fireplace lit every night for the cold weather and super friendly staff. It is a great location and Georgie was incredible, going above and beyond to help us! So helpful and friendly! I highly recommend!

Didn’t manage to stay in this hotel, however there was no suggestion and no advice to make the experience better especially being a tourist who would not know many things about the location of the hotel.

I have a pleasant stay at Fox Glacier Top 10. Love the communcal space and family bathroom. The view from the Campsite also good.

Great place to stay on the way down from Hokitika. Had a lovely dinner at the Hotel and breakfast the next morning included Infront of a log fireplace. Staff friendly and helpful, room was comfortable and warm. Local information office has a great local display of the local area with some interesting stories of the early homesteaders and the diverse area from farming to Whitebait catching, this can be seen if you drive down towards Jackson Bay.

This was a real disappointment on arrival. It certainly didn’t feel 4*. The room was very tired, there was a kitchenette with all the equipment you might need, however, had to wash the cutlery as the knives were dirty. It looked as though there had only been a light cleaning done, but the beds were comfy and the shower was good. The area felt very run down, there was very limited choice of places to eat but we had a couple of really nice meals nearby. If we hadn’t been within a couple of minutes walk for the helicopter trip we’d booked, we wouldn’t have stayed. In fairness, it didn’t help there was torrential rain at the time, which never helps. There was a minute terrace outside, but only about 10feet from the neighbouring property, whose windows looked right into our room. We did ask if there was another room available but were told no, despite the sign outside saying there were vacancies.

We stayed upstairs in a queen bed room in the main lodge. The room was large and well appointed. We were very comfortable and enjoyed all of the windows we could open to control the temperature. They offer a guided walk to see some glowworms in the forest nearby. It was a very fun walk, even though it was raining. It was a nice bonus. The facilities are somewhat minimal but we knew that going into it. We enjoyed making ourselves breakfast in the morning and talking to some of our fellow guests around the table. It was a different stay than the other hotels we used on our trip and we found it to be memorable and fun as a result.

We stayed at Hotel Lake Brunner for one night for our Tranzalpine package. The hotel picked us up from the train & took us back for our return journey. We enjoyed an afternoon platter, hot tub, dinner & a cooked breakfast- all part of the deal. The menu for dinner was extensive & everything for all meals was delicious. The room was spacious & warm with a great bed. We really enjoyed our stay here with lovely views & an easy walk to the lake & walks by the lake. The highlight for us though were the genuinely nice & down to earth staff. Thank you to each of you for your wonderful customer service - always with a smile.

We stayed here for two nights and had issues with this place as follows: 1. Arriving at check in an elderly Chinese lady appeared at reception, dialled a number on her phone and pointed to it. I was connected with her son who’s somewhere else and did check in with him by phone….really ?? 2. The first room we were given had no wifi as it was so far away from reception. We asked to be moved, by phone again, and we provided with another room where the wifi worked. 3. The lid on the kettle was broken and fell off when filling. 4. The hot water pressure appears almost non existent and, in the mornings when everyone was showering, there was almost no water coming out of the shower and this morning I got up at 6am to shower early but still almost no pressure and took forever to get hot. 5. The bed was super springy and didn’t feel very much like quality at all. On the upside, there’s plenty of parking as very few people in the motel ( I wonder why ? ) and the motel is close to the Main Street of Fox Glacier. I always review our hotels on our trips and 99% of the time give glowing reviews but this place is having a lend at almost $200 Aud per night. No English speaking, no welcome, no facilities no water pressure and by the looks of it, no guests. You can do much better elsewhere

There is a saying, the location of the motel is very convenient, in the center of the town, from the attractions are very close to the car, the town is relatively quiet, all kinds of service facilities (gas station, convenience store, catering, etc.), the hotel has its own free parking lot in the hospital, the room is relatively clean, however, the TV viewing experience is very poor, the hotel basically does not have access to the real-time TV signal source, the channel does not seem to be a real-time signal source, it is estimated that it is to save money, there is no channel to buy from the TV operator

We stayed here one night. Franz Josef Glacier is a nicer place to stay, but we wanted to be positioned at Fox Glacier so we were better positioned to do the early morning walk to Lake Matheson. Many of the accommodation options in Fox are closed due to COVID, others seemed to me to be ridiculously expensive. This place looked okay on paper. I booked on line. When we arrived our first impression was that it was closed. The entrance looks unkempt and the car park area is full of ****s. However there was a woman behind the reception counter. The first thing she wanted was for me to pay in cash, because their eftpos machine was not working. Needless to say I did not have enough cash - who carries much cash around these days? I asked her if there was an ATM in town, but she did not know. I logged onto their wi-fi to find for myself that there is no ATM in Fox Glacier, the nearest being in Franz Josef. We were not driving back to Franz Josef to get some cash! On reflection, at this point, I should have said we would go elsewhere, but instead I offered to try and get some cash out in the town in conjunction with buying a meal. We were allowed to drop our gear in the room and we drove back into town (hotel is a little distance outside the township). Not many options for a meal, but we found a very decent burger and chips at a cafe. But they could not provide me with the amount of cash I needed for the hotel. Back to the hotel, to be told the eftpos had been fixed - presumably by the guy we saw arriving as we left to go back into town. So we paid for the room and settled in for an early night. We were the only occupants. The owners/operators didn't appear to live on site, so we must have been the only people in the building overnight. There was absolutely no sign of life and it was a bit spooky. They did not provide any phone number to contact anyone if we had a problem. The rooms are nice enough - spacious and comfortable, with everything you need. There was mould on the curtains. The hotel restaurant is of course closed at the moment, thanks to COVID. Reception hours were something like 9am to 7pm. We left in the morning about 7.30am. Not a soul to be seen. We left our room key in the box on the reception counter, unlocked the main door to leave the building and departed. Had to leave the door unlocked. This was not a pleasant experience, but I am sure it would have been better if things had been ”normal”, and COVID was not hurting everything. We would definitely not consider returning to this hotel.

The male receptionist who greeted us was not particularly friendly; and only when we got to our first floor room did we read about a luggage service. The room was tastefully furnished and clean, and other staff we interacted with were friendly. However the biggest issue is that the walls between rooms are are paper thin so we could hear people next door and doors banging. This woke us up early on both nights we stayed. If you stay - bring ear plugs. There was a lounge with a bar - the bar was permanently closed so there was no where to get a hot or cold drink unless you went to a cafe down the road.

酒店就在福克斯冰川直升機集合出發地點旁邊，入住後可以徒步走過來。我們來的時候因為下雨所以沒能成行，但是酒店本身還不錯，房間很大，唯一的缺點是水壓很小，洗澡不是很舒服。早飯是西式自助早餐，算不上豐盛但是吃飽沒問題。酒店旁邊的whitepub咖啡店可以吃白人晚飯，人均25-30紐幣一個人，味道還可以。福克斯冰川的酒店普遍貴，來新西蘭11天這是唯一一家價格超過1000的。

At this motel we were warmly greeted and given an inspection of our room with supersize king size bed. Room has all cooking facilities and fridge. All mod cons you need Michelle even gave us some eggs because we weren’t able to purchase any I would highly recommend you experience the wonderful hospitality shown

This is a building in the process of being restored. It's potential is large but a way off yet. The rooms are progressively being updated. We stayed in an updated one and it was great for what we needed. Travellers should know it's still rough around the edges and you will encounter older areas not yet updated such as the toilet and shower area and lounge .. but it was comfortable and the owner man kind and helpful. For the price paid I think it's good. By buying accommodation at the duke you would actually be helping progress the restoration of this old building! There was a fire going in the lounge room, and the kitchen is huge! Plenty of room and pots/pans etc if you wanted to cook your own food.

We stayed there for 2 nights in 2007, we couldn't go back that far. Must have been different owners and we stayed in off-peak so it was very quiet. It was clean and our double bed room was comfortable. Great historic building with such awesome interesting themed rooms. It was more than fine for us and reasonably priced compared to possibly finer hotels but this was way more homely,quaint and interesting. I believe the kitchen was as good as any decent backpackers. We weren't disappointed as were not wanting a millionaire accommodation hotel but a warm atmosphere.

It was the “no worries” attitude of the owner who made this trip so good. We booked last minute to visit a sick family member and had to bring a small dog as there was no time to book him in a kennel. The owner was so easy to deal with and nothing was an issue (had to call him twice from Christchurch with questions). The room was older style but it was so clean! I will admit that I was nervous booking so quickly and arriving late in the evening (could have been a disaster) but I was pleasantly surprised to find the beds all impeccably made, the bathroom was clean, as was the kitchen. Little bit of road noise as mentioned in other reviews but this place is on the main road also it’s Greymouth and traffic wasn’t constant all night… it’s also just up the road from the hospital and in easy reach of everything you need. I would book again.

This hotel presents as nothing special, but we had a lovely and comfortable stay. The rooms, bathroom and decor are quite dated, but are immaculately presented. The location is slightly out of the CBD and whilst you can see a supermarket and variety store across the road, there is no (obvious) direct access, so you need a car to get about. The location is quiet, but there is a bit of noise from neighbouring rooms, especially when the shower is running. When we turned off the light, there was a lot of light entering the room and we expected a disturbed night, but we were delighted that sometime around midnight they dimmed considerably so our sleep was quite good. I wish more motels would dim their external lighting as the night draws on. The hosts were attentive and welcoming and we enjoyed some nice interaction with them. This is a motel that's far from perfect, but where the positives far outweigh the negative. We would definitely recommend it and stay there again.

Arrived at the hotel a little bit late for the check-in, but the reception was very accommodating and still processed for us with a big smile and was very friendly! Rooms were very clean, complete with AC and heater, towels provided as well. Laundry avail for use (paid use only and hours apply) Beds were nice, great amenities! With full kitchen including fridge, stove, microwave and washing sink. Cooking utensils and pots pans avail too. Wasn't expecting much for a motel but this was actually a really great and comfortable stay! Short 2 to 5min drive to nearest supermarkets and petrol stations

Glenn, thank you for the wonderful stay. I admire your desire in brining this delightful old building back to it's former glory. Our room was comfortable, with the best hostel bed I have ever stayed in. You are a fantastic host. I can not recommend your hostel enough.

I have nothing but the highest praise for the incredible service and hospitality we all received at Aalchen Place Hotel. Michelle, the manager, went beyond the call of duty to help us with our transportation challenges. She was unbelievably accommodating and willing to do whatever she could to ensure that our stay was a very pleasant and comfortable one. The beds were so very comfortable with the rooms, themselves, impeccably clean and beautifully presented. Thank you, Michelle, for all you did for us. Lee (one of the 5 ‘mad’ Aussies).

The motel was unassuming from the street but a real gem from the moment you check in at reception. Roger, the owner, was very engaging and welcoming and showed my wife and me to our room. And fresh milk was provided for a cuppa! The room was beautifully presented and spotlessly clean. The king bed was comfortable, the water hot and there was Sky channel. Bonus!! Across the road was a supermarket and a servo. All this added up to better value for money than all the more expensive places we'd stayed on our road trip to date. But the thing that went above and beyond for me was when I inadvertently left my vital medication in the room fridge. We had dropped the hire car off by the time I'd realised, and a taxi would have been needed to get back to the motel. When I contacted Roger he insisted on dropping the medication to me and wouldn't hear of me catching a taxi to collect it. Seems nothing was too much trouble for Roger and Carol. Five stars guys!

Liked · A nice spacious 2 Bedroom apartment with all the trimmings, including a seat 6 Dining Room Table. With a Queen Size Bed & Single Bed in each bedroom there is a host of sleeping options if you bring the Family Tribe with you, otherwise it's a take your pick of a bed. The Bathroom is BIG with a cubicle Shower Unit, personally I found the cubicle shower a wee bit small for washing all parts a Man has to wash BUT the wife thought it fine, maybe I should just lose some weight. Parking was right at your Unit's front door so there was no lugging of bags up stairs or any nearby distance. Disliked · The Wi-Fi was not up to scratch for a supposed leading Motel. The Internet would either drop-out completely or annoyingly just cut in & out. A person travelling for work or in the case of my wife (who is a School Principal & is always on the computer) may well have lost valuable data & work notes. As for me being a Recreational Punter who loves nothing better than relaxing with a beer & having a few TAB punts on the Internet, it was a nightmare.

We stayed here in a 2 bdm with another couple for 3 nights whilst doing the West Coast Wilderness Trail and it was great! Worked well for the 4 of us, clean, roomy and nice to be able to prepare food etc in the kitchen and really helpful being able to use the laundry each day (for a fee) for our biking gear. Karen was lovely to deal with. We left our bikes at Wilderness Trail Shuttle premises each night as we had a car and that worked out well.

The motel is tucked away in a residential area away from all the others on the main drag (which is why we chose it), and it turned out to be a gem. Very clean, well-maintained, and well-equipped, it proved very comfortable for the two nights we stayed here. Our room had a spa bath which we didn't have the chance to use, but we appreciated the extra space in the bathroom! The staff were welcoming and cheerful, and the guest laundry was put to good use. We would be very happy to stay here again if our travels bring us back to Hokitika (which we have now learned how to pronounce properly!)

從基督城到Greymouth這段的自駕，一直開到很晚，又去了附近駕車1小時的Pancake rock，west piont, 看了下住宿這間比較符合我們的要求，於是決定再多開一段路去Hokkitika，到酒店的時候已經11點多，電話給工作人員説把鑰匙直接放在房間裏，這是一個家庭套房，有2個房間，因為訂的一室一廳，所以另外一個雙床房間就沒使用。 Hokkitika有個Glow warm的點，因為到的太晚就沒有去。 房間客廳寬敞，可以連APP投屏，餐桌上無線充電器，衞生間比較大，床又意外的很乾凈舒適，早上起來看着外面的太陽，窗外是當地居民的🏠，感覺好像就住在小鎮上，獨特美好的回憶。大早上出門大家都自行把🔑放在Office的桌子，總體來説印象很好。推薦！！

A lovely home away from home, cleanest motel in New Zealand, beautiful setting and layout. Friendly and helpful service. We relaxed after a long drive. Thanks for letting me hose down our very muddy car. Close to all amenities and quiet in the evening ensuring a peaceful sleep!

On our road trip round South Island, we decided to stop over in Hokitika. We found this lovely hotel away from the town nestled in woodland. A very tranquil place with local birdlife and great views. The owners Frazer and Anne were very warm and welcoming and the property was immaculate and well appointed. Breakfast was beautifully cooked with fresh eggs from their chickens and homemade sour dough toast and yoghurt. Would thoroughly recommend a stay.
