This is my second time staying at this hotel. Although there is a distance from Kumamoto Station. It is quite convenient to take tram or bus (bus terminal opposite the hotel at Sakura Machi) to Kumamoto Station. Kumamoto Castle is nearby. There is a shopping street at walking distance. A chicken soup noodles is a must try. It is at an alley that opposite ABC Mart (shoes shop).
Stayed in the standard double room.
The room was huge, which is really surprising for Japan hotels. Everything was clean, it’s just that the hotel is a little old which shows in the style of the decorations, but the interior of the rooms were clean.
Hotel had public baths and breakfast buffet came with the room we booked. Spread of the buffet was alright.
Location wise, it’s nothing exceptional, but I don’t think there’s much to do in town anyways. We were about 15min drive to the dolphin centre which was the main itinerary for our day in Amakusa.
View was good, hotel had its own garden area and sea view.
Newly opened so all amenities are in good condition. Shower is perfect 👌
Only got 2 pools for hot spring; can’t compare with the one in Kyoto. Overall excellent experience 😄😙
Decent-sized room and nicely furbished;
Amazing location for food, transport, shopping, tram. Literally a 7-11 at your doorstep.
Public bath was amazing, even has outdoor bath;
Lounge available for working (after 3pm) and provides drinks and good wifi;
Professional service and attitude from hotel staff.
Would stay again 10/10
It's located very near to the train station that is very convenient for travelling and with many restaurants around. Room is rather small but clean with all the necessities required. The public bath and free breakfast are extra bonus for the booking. We enjoyed our stay very much.
We had a great stay at Kamenoi Hotel Aso Park. We booked a room in the South Building, which was spacious,clean, and had a large, comfortable bed. The hotel provides yukata robes in various colors, which was a lovely touch for guests to enjoy the onsen experience.
♨️ The onsen was large and relaxing — perfect after a day of exploring Aso.
🚗 Parking was very convenient, located right next to the hotel. Just across the parking area, there’s a 24-hour convenience store called Obentou Hirai offering ready-made bentos, hot meals, ramen, and udon — extremely convenient for late-night snacks or quick meals.
🍱 We chose a room-only package without meals, and in the morning, we visited the local souvenir and food center at Aso Station. It had a great selection of local foods and breakfast options, plus plenty of gifts and souvenirs to bring home.
Overall, a comfortable stay with everything we needed nearby. Highly recommended if you’re exploring the Aso area!
I really liked the hot springs with high iron content in this ryokan: I had sore throat for about 3 weeks before the journey, but it recovered just after the first bath. We also liked that family baths are for free if they are vacant (in the evening there wasn't any problem). The staff is attentive, thank you very much. The food was delicious, and there was more than enough for a man. However, we would recommend choosing a Japanese-style breakfast, since frying eggs on a burner is not very convenient. Nevertheless, everything was delicious. As for the drinks for breakfast, there was only coffee from the coffee machine. But there is always green tea in the room (we had problems with the hot pot, so they brought us a thermos).
The only thing we did not like was the heating. However, it is unlikely to do anything with it when it is minus 3 degrees outside at night. Without heating, it was very cold, the floor was cold. But the heating is very noisy, and it is difficult to find a temperature balance. We sweated a lot at night under the blankets, and since the shower is not in the room - it is in the onsen, it was inconvenient. Thanks God, we had spare pajamas with us.
Overall, for this cost of accommodation we can give 5 points.

GGuest UserSmall compact room with modern interior. Comfy bed and well ventilated with mini fan provided. They provided extra bedsheet so that the sofa bed is converted to another single. Big enuf for a teenager to sleep on. Space big enough to open just one huge luggage. Somehow the room feels damp but we just stayed for two nights so did not bother changing rooms. Lots of free parking available. Near Aso milk factory which is a must visit for delicious pastries and snacks.
JJOE JRATHGreat location. The hotel is right in the middle of major area. The hotel pays part of the parking fee at nearby lot. Many famous restaurants close to the hotel. The common area setup real nice. Free soft-drink, coffee, coco. The water pressure in the shower is great.
DDahengAmakusa is at the edge of Kumamoto, and transportation is inconvenient. You can take the Amakusa bus from Kumamoto, which takes two and a half hours on the road. There will be no group tours in this place, which is good. It is quiet and the hot springs are basically like a private place. The hotel facilities are relatively new, the sea view is extremely beautiful, and the hot spring water quality is excellent. But there are no places to play around, so in the hotel you can: watch the sea, soak in hot springs, and be in a daze. Note: There are only two ways to leave Amakusa, one is to return to Kumamoto, and the other is to take a ferry across the sea to Nagasaki. Don't choose the Lingbei Steamship plan to go to Nagasaki. If the wind speed is greater than 10 meters/second, the steamer will stop sailing. The wind speed in Amakusa is 16-30 meters/second every day. It depends on the weather to sail. There is a forecast on the blog of Lingbei Steamship. Once it can sail, it will be like good news. If you really want to go to Nagasaki, it is best to choose to take the car and passenger ferry to Oniike Port, which basically will not stop sailing. It costs more than 3,000 yen to take a taxi from Amakusa Angel Garden Hotel to Oniike Port. After crossing the sea to Kuchikozu Port, take a bus to Isahaya, where you can transfer to the Nagasaki Line train to Nagasaki Station.
GGingerhoneyThe mountain view from the room window was great.
The bath and sauna weren't too hot, so I was able to relax in them for a long time!
I recommend it if you have time before your flight because you can pick strawberries at the farm right in front of you.
CChloe-FaaaNThis hotel is super convenient, located directly across the street from the Kumamoto Sakuramachi Bus Terminal! There's a large supermarket right next door, and the Sakuramachi shopping mall across the street is fantastic for shopping, dining, and family-friendly activities. While the hotel is a bit older, it's very well-maintained. We booked a corner room with our child, and it was spacious enough for two 24-inch suitcases to lay flat without getting in the way. Do note that there's an additional charge of 3000 JPY per night for children. The hotel's hot spring is very comfortable and quite popular. It features an indoor cold pool, a hot pool, a sauna, and an outdoor bath. Yakult is available in the morning, and various cold drinks are offered in the evening. The hotel also serves complimentary soba noodles from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM, which were delicious! Overall, it offers great value for money.

LLeyan1978This is a traditional Japanese ryokan, built with beautiful wooden architecture. It's located on the westernmost edge of Kurokawa Onsen town, about two kilometers from the main area. If you're looking for privacy and tranquility, this is the perfect spot. They offer a complimentary shuttle service; just let the front desk or the town's tourist information center know, and they'll arrange a pick-up.
The ryokan boasts a great selection of onsen baths, both communal and private. The 'Roku-shaku Taru' (Six-Foot Barrel) is a standout among the private options; I highly recommend trying it in the morning for the fantastic views and fewer insects.
Both breakfast and dinner were served in my preferred Japanese style. The dishes were diverse, beautifully presented, and utterly delicious. And the tatami sleeping arrangements were incredibly comfortable.
SSailinnuoQueenThis Japanese onsen hotel met all my expectations. Every day after coming back, I could enjoy a hot spring bath. Inside, there's one hot and one cold bath, plus a sauna. Outside, there's an open-air hot spring. After bathing, you can choose from four types of ice cream and read Japanese manga for free. You can also pay for a massage. For the late-night snack from 9:30 PM to 11:00 PM, they offer matcha and hot chocolate, along with a vegetarian ramen that comes with a quarter-egg. Overall, I looked forward to returning to the hotel every day after my excursions. I'll definitely stay here again next time.
HHuangbenbendemamaThis inn was amazing! We even added an extra night. Our room had a view of Mount Aso, and dinner was a BBQ with Japanese side dishes. The innkeepers, a loving couple, were incredibly attentive and caring, especially considering we had a child. The four private hot springs, each with its own unique style, were fantastic. This small inn had everything you could need, with impeccable attention to detail and impeccable cleanliness. Even the slippers we wore each day were labeled with the guests' room names. Staying at the foot of Mount Aso allowed us to explore at a leisurely pace. With the extra day, we also visited Takachiho, ate Miyazaki beef, and enjoyed a great inn!
