If you ask me which place in Sichuan is worth visiting, Mount Emei is definitely one of my picks! ⛰️ Located in Leshan, Sichuan, about a 1.5–2-hour drive from Chengdu, Mount Emei is one of China's four sacred Buddhist mountains and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. From the stunning Golden Summit and sea of clouds to ancient temples and forest trails, there's plenty to see here!
Mount Emei is bigger than you might expect, so planning your route beforehand can save you time and energy. In this guide, I'll cover ticket prices, opening hours, transport from Chengdu, cable cars, must-visit attractions, hotels and travel tips to help you plan your trip! ✨

🚄 How to get from Chengdu to Mount Emei?
🚄 High-Speed Train
You can catch a high-speed train from Chengdu East Station or Chengdu South Station to 📍Emeishan Station, with the fastest journey taking around 1 hour. Once you arrive, take a taxi or local bus to the ✅ Baoguo Temple Tourist Centre. If you're heading straight to the Golden Summit, you can take the scenic shuttle bus towards ✅ Leidongping, then walk to ✅ Jieyin Hall and transfer to the cable car.
🚌 Long-Distance Bus
You can also take a long-distance bus from Chengdu, including services from 📍Xinnanmen Tourist Bus Station. The journey usually takes around 2.5–3 hours, depending on traffic. It's worth considering if you prefer a bus, but keep in mind that holiday traffic may add extra travel time.
🚗 Drive to Mount Emei
Driving from Chengdu takes around 2–2.5 hours, depending on traffic. It's a good option for families or groups, and you can even add a stop at the 📍Leshan Giant Buddha to your itinerary.
📌 Quick tip: For a day trip, I'd go with the high-speed train and scenic shuttle bus. It's convenient and means you won't need to worry about parking or getting stuck in traffic yourself.

Baoguo Temple is the main gateway to Mount Emei and a common starting point for visitors. You'll find a visitor centre, restaurants and shops here, making it a good place to get ready before taking the sightseeing bus up the mountain.
② Leidongping
Leidongping is a major stop for visitors heading to the Golden Summit. From here, you'll need to walk to Jieyin Hall before taking the cable car up.
③ Jieyin Hall
It's about a 15–20-minute walk from Leidongping to Jieyin Hall, where you can catch the Golden Summit cable car. I'd recommend taking the cable car if you want to save your energy for exploring the summit!
④ Golden Summit
This is the highlight of Mount Emei! The Golden Summit is famous for its impressive golden statue of Samantabhadra, breathtaking mountain views and sea of clouds. If the weather cooperates, you might even catch a beautiful sunrise.
⑤ Ecological Monkey Zone
Got some extra time? Visit the Ecological Monkey Zone to spot Mount Emei's famous wild monkeys. They're pretty bold around people, so keep your food and plastic bags out of sight, and never feed or provoke them.

🚠 Golden Summit Cable Car
The Golden Summit Cable Car is the most popular option for visitors heading to the top. First, take the sightseeing bus to 📍Leidongping, then walk for around 15–20 minutes to 📍Jieyin Hall to board the cable car. I'd recommend the round-trip ticket (RM72) if you're short on time or travelling with children or seniors. It's much less tiring than hiking all the way up, leaving you more energy to enjoy the stunning mountain views, sea of clouds and golden statue of Samantabhadra.
🚠 Wannian Cableway
The Wannian Cableway is a handy option to reduce the amount of uphill walking. However, if your main goal is the Golden Summit and you're only visiting for one day, I'd focus on the Golden Summit Cable Car instead.

✨ Golden Summit
If there's one place I'd prioritise at Mount Emei, it's definitely the Golden Summit! Sitting at around 3,077 metres above sea level, it offers incredible mountain views, a sea of clouds and, if you're lucky, a beautiful sunrise.
The main highlight is the impressive 48-metre-tall Golden Statue of Samantabhadra with Ten Directions and Four Faces. It's a spectacular sight, whether you're admiring it from afar or getting closer to appreciate the details. Don't forget your camera because the views up here are seriously worth capturing!
🛕 Baoguo Temple
Located at the foot of Mount Emei, Baoguo Temple is a popular starting point for exploring the mountain. The temple is surrounded by towering ancient trees, giving it a peaceful atmosphere that's perfect for a slow stroll away from the crowds.
If you're interested in Buddhist culture or traditional Chinese temple architecture, I'd recommend stopping by before heading further up the mountain. It's also a nice place to take a breather and ease into your Mount Emei adventure. 😊
🌿 Wannian Temple
With a history spanning over a thousand years, Wannian Temple is one of Mount Emei's most important Buddhist temples. Its main attraction is the famous bronze statue of Samantabhadra Bodhisattva, which draws visitors and devotees from different places.
Surrounded by lush greenery and fresh mountain air, the temple is a lovely spot to slow down and appreciate the traditional architecture. If you enjoy cultural and historical attractions, this one is worth adding to your itinerary. 🍃
🍃 Qingyin Pavilion
Love nature and peaceful scenery? Qingyin Pavilion is a lovely place to explore! 🌿 Surrounded by green forests and flowing streams, it offers a refreshing break from the busier parts of Mount Emei.
Take your time walking along the trails, listen to the sound of the water and enjoy the scenery. It's also a great spot for photography, especially if you love capturing nature rather than just ticking off tourist attractions.
🐒 Ecological Monkey Zone
One of Mount Emei's most famous attractions is its cheeky wild monkeys! 🐒 At the Ecological Monkey Zone, you may spot Tibetan macaques roaming near the walking trails or approaching visitors.
They're definitely fun to watch, but remember that they're wild animals, not pets. Keep your food and plastic bags out of sight, never feed or provoke them, and maintain a safe distance. That way, you can enjoy the experience without any unexpected monkey business!
🚶 Leidongping
Leidongping is an important stop for visitors heading to the Golden Summit. Most travellers taking the scenic sightseeing bus get off here before continuing on foot towards the cable car station.
The temperature can be much cooler than at the foot of the mountain, so bring an extra layer even if the weather feels warm when you start your trip. From Leidongping, it's around a 15–20-minute walk to Jieyin Hall, where you can board the cable car to the Golden Summit.
🌅 Jieyin Hall
Jieyin Hall is the cable car boarding point for visitors travelling up to the Golden Summit. After the walk from Leidongping, it's a convenient place to take a short rest before continuing your journey.
On a clear day, you may also get lovely views of the surrounding mountain ranges. I'd suggest taking a moment to enjoy the scenery before hopping on the cable car, especially if it's your first time visiting Mount Emei. The Golden Summit is just a little further up!

A summer trip to Emei Mountain was made even better by this hot spring resort's ”Summer Adventure” experience – a perfect choice for families with kids! The moment you step into the hotel, you're captivated by its forest-like environment – the windows offer panoramic views of rolling green hills, and every breath is filled with the fresh scent of nature. Just a 10-minute walk from the scenic area entrance, you can easily return to the hotel for a relaxing soak in the cool spring pools after exploring the area with your kids, offering privacy and convenience.
The biggest surprise was coinciding with the ”Summer Adventure” event! Saturday's hot spring fun was a paradise for the kids: water battles with splashing water, kayaking races for the whole family, and a ”South-to-North Water Diversion” game testing teamwork – the children were soaking wet from head to toe, yet still clamoring for ”one more round!”
The butler service was impeccable: they proactively contacted us during booking, sending scenic area guides via WeChat; upon check-in, they provided children's slippers and mosquito repellent patches; and upon check-out, simply leave your room key in the room – completely freeing up your hands. The room has its own private hot spring bath. My skin felt so smooth after soaking in it. The butler told me that the hot spring water is radon from 3,000 meters underground, rich in 24 kinds of minerals. Even my fatigue was washed away.Dari€ 127

First time visiting Mount Emei and choosing Hongzhushan Hotel was definitely the right choice, no regrets at all! Located right next to Baoguo Temple, the location is unbeatable and very convenient for getting to the scenic area. Nestled within 440,000 square meters of primeval forest and accompanied by Hongzhu Lake, every step reveals a new view—it feels like staying in a natural oxygen bar with mountains and water. The lake is often wreathed in misty clouds, the rooms are well-maintained, clean, and comfortable; the buffet breakfast offers a great variety and tastes delicious. The highlight is undoubtedly the forest hot springs, with dozens of soaking pools scattered among the trees—soaking in them after a day of hiking is incredibly relaxing. The staff are warm, enthusiastic, and patient. Although I had a few minor hiccups during my stay, the staff helped me handle them promptly and patiently, even accompanying me to the downtown area for medical care with an exceptionally good attitude. This time I stayed at the Hongzhushan Zen Mountain Retreat in Emei Mountain, and the experience was incredibly comfortable. The hotel is conveniently located, making travel a breeze. A customer service manager even visited and added me on WeChat, so I could contact them anytime with questions. I've been here many times. The hot springs are great and meet the needs of a family. There are many pools and they stay open quite late, so the kids had a good time. This hotel is only a 10-minute drive from Emei Mountain High-Speed Rail Station. If you contact them in advance, they can arrange station pick-up and drop-off, which is very convenient.
The hotel is nestled in a beautiful natural environment with green hills, clear waters, and surrounded by bamboo forests. The public areas are stunning, and I particularly loved the bamboo forest platform. A stroll along the wooden boardwalk takes about 20 minutes, and listening to the rustling leaves in the wind truly gives you a sense of escaping the world and finding peace amidst nature. All guest rooms are scenic, and each balcony features a private hot tub. If you're traveling with family, you can book a mountain courtyard or a villa. Before check-in, a butler will contact you to provide information on daily activities. Be aware that some activities have limited spots and require advance reservations. You can also choose your preferred essential oil and incense for the room beforehand (though default options are available daily). I especially loved the lemongrass essential oil and bergamot incense.
The room itself is quite spacious. We were upgraded to a 'Yangxiu' room, which is nearly 10 square meters larger than the basic 'Guanshang' room. The balcony also came with some yoga equipment. The shower and toilet areas are separate, which is a practical and convenient design.
The hotel's Chinese restaurant serves good food, and the breakfast at Mingyue Restaurant offers scenic views from every seat. In the morning, they provide local specialties like Tofu Pudding, Ka Bing (a type of sandwich), Qiaojiao Beef, and Egg Cakes. If you prefer not to leave the hotel, you can order takeout to the hotel's Gate 1, and the concierge staff will deliver it to your room.
All the hotel staff are warm, friendly, and always ready to help. Special thanks to our butler Lola and Archie from the concierge team.
The Banyan Tree Gallery next to the lobby sells some really nice items, like aromatherapy essential oils. I also loved the toiletries in the room and found that I could purchase them there.
Being a newly opened hotel, there's still room for improvement, such as:
1. The variety of breakfast options could be expanded.

On September 30th, our family of four traveled to Mount Emei and chose Le Méridien based on recommendations. Upon arrival, we found that everything, from the pre-arranged pick-up/drop-off service at the high-speed rail station to the hotel's facilities, met 5-star standards. The hotel offers a rich array of activities for families, including an outdoor pool, an indoor pool, and an outdoor children's playground, making it perfect for kids. Dining and beverage options are comprehensive, and breakfast is also excellent. The hotel is conveniently located just a 10-minute walk from the Huguo Temple Tourist Center in Mount Emei (the bus stop for the Leipingping bus), and bus stops for routes 5 and 12 (which go to Fuhu Temple and Huguo Temple) are right outside the entrance. Choosing Wyndham was a happy accident. I didn't check reviews or do any research; I simply picked it because of the room size. This was a family trip (2 adults, 2 children), and while typical hotel rooms are around 30 sqm, here they're 50-60 sqm. The spacious room meant the kids had plenty of space to play without feeling cramped. I've stayed in smaller rooms before where just opening a suitcase made it hard to move around.
Upon checking in, I was pleasantly surprised. This place feels more like a family-friendly hotel. It boasts three swimming pools, with both heated and regular temperature options. There's even an LED screen by the pool showing cartoons, which is a lifesaver for parents when the kids get tired of swimming.
Next, let's talk about breakfast. I'm used to pre-made pastries, but here, the waffles are freshly baked! The moment you cut into them, a rich milky aroma fills the air. They're warm but not scalding, soft and chewy – I just love freshly baked goods.
I always save the best for last: a special shout-out to customer service representative Xiao Jia. After checking in, I added her on WeChat. Whether I had a question about how something worked or needed staff to come help combine beds, she always replied instantly. I almost thought I was talking to an AI, even though the front desk seemed quite busy; she must just be incredibly fast.
I've rambled on, but in short, I highly recommend this hotel.

We stayed in an older part of the hotel which was fine though a bit rundown. The hot springs were quite nice. The water was hot with a range of pools from 33° to 42°. When we first went in at 3:00 in the afternoon the pools were a bit cooler and they got hotter and hotter as the evening went on. The pools were busier after dinner than they were before dinner. Full of details, the sink in the bathroom is wide and does not accumulate water, the toilet and bathroom are separated, water will not splash the toilet, it would be better if there is an extra storage table in the bathroom, the air conditioner remote control is covered with a protective silicone cover, which is hygienic and not easily damaged, an elevator is installed, and it is friendly to the elderly and children. The new decoration, although it is made of environmentally friendly materials, has a peculiar smell after all. It is advisable to open windows and doors more often for ventilation, or use decoration absorbents. As for the shortcomings, it is recommended to follow the Ctrip membership rules appropriately, and check-out can be as late as 14:00 in the afternoon.

Although I wasn't able to make a booking in advance for the free pick-up transfer from the railway station, the receptionist lady was able to kindly provide an immediate service recovery. This stay at this hotel near Mount Emei was an absolute delight! This place is simply lovely! Spotlessly clean, tastefully decorated, and so cozy that I felt at home right away. I booked the basic room, so the view wasn’t anything special—but honestly, that’s the only downside in an otherwise flawless stay.
The location is perfect—right next to a coffee shop and food spots, and just steps away from the tourist bus station to the mountain top (so convenient!).
The lady running the place is beyond helpful, great hospitality!

I mentioned it to the owner, initially thinking of paying for a ride. But the owner was incredibly straightforward and generously drove us to the high-speed train station for free, even taking a shortcut.

A summer trip to Emei Mountain was made even better by this hot spring resort's ”Summer Adventure” experience – a perfect choice for families with kids! The moment you step into the hotel, you're captivated by its forest-like environment – the windows offer panoramic views of rolling green hills, and every breath is filled with the fresh scent of nature. Just a 10-minute walk from the scenic area entrance, you can easily return to the hotel for a relaxing soak in the cool spring pools after exploring the area with your kids, offering privacy and convenience.
The biggest surprise was coinciding with the ”Summer Adventure” event! Saturday's hot spring fun was a paradise for the kids: water battles with splashing water, kayaking races for the whole family, and a ”South-to-North Water Diversion” game testing teamwork – the children were soaking wet from head to toe, yet still clamoring for ”one more round!”
The butler service was impeccable: they proactively contacted us during booking, sending scenic area guides via WeChat; upon check-in, they provided children's slippers and mosquito repellent patches; and upon check-out, simply leave your room key in the room – completely freeing up your hands. The room has its own private hot spring bath. My skin felt so smooth after soaking in it. This hotel is only a 10-minute drive from Emei Mountain High-Speed Rail Station. If you contact them in advance, they can arrange station pick-up and drop-off, which is very convenient.
The hotel is nestled in a beautiful natural environment with green hills, clear waters, and surrounded by bamboo forests. The public areas are stunning, and I particularly loved the bamboo forest platform. A stroll along the wooden boardwalk takes about 20 minutes, and listening to the rustling leaves in the wind truly gives you a sense of escaping the world and finding peace amidst nature. All guest rooms are scenic, and each balcony features a private hot tub. If you're traveling with family, you can book a mountain courtyard or a villa. Before check-in, a butler will contact you to provide information on daily activities. Be aware that some activities have limited spots and require advance reservations. You can also choose your preferred essential oil and incense for the room beforehand (though default options are available daily). I especially loved the lemongrass essential oil and bergamot incense.
The room itself is quite spacious. We were upgraded to a 'Yangxiu' room, which is nearly 10 square meters larger than the basic 'Guanshang' room. The balcony also came with some yoga equipment. The shower and toilet areas are separate, which is a practical and convenient design.
The hotel's Chinese restaurant serves good food, and the breakfast at Mingyue Restaurant offers scenic views from every seat. In the morning, they provide local specialties like Tofu Pudding, Ka Bing (a type of sandwich), Qiaojiao Beef, and Egg Cakes. If you prefer not to leave the hotel, you can order takeout to the hotel's Gate 1, and the concierge staff will deliver it to your room.
All the hotel staff are warm, friendly, and always ready to help. Special thanks to our butler Lola and Archie from the concierge team.
The Banyan Tree Gallery next to the lobby sells some really nice items, like aromatherapy essential oils. I also loved the toiletries in the room and found that I could purchase them there.
Being a newly opened hotel, there's still room for improvement, such as:

First of all, let's talk about the service. The owner's philosophy is the key to a B&B. Before arriving at the store, the owner will take the initiative to ask if you need to be picked up at the station, which is a good comment.
Secondly, let's talk about convenience. The B&B has its own professional kitchen and restaurant, so it's totally fine if you want to stay at home for a few days. However, the quiet environment means you're far away from the downtown area. It takes an hour to order a takeaway, so you can buy things in advance before you go.
The focus is still on the environment. The several houses distributed in the small valley next to Baoguo Temple are really quiet and seem to be out of this world.
Finally, a few small suggestions. There are many insects in the mountains. It is recommended to light mosquito coils or put a few mosquito lamps in the garden on the first floor during the activities of the staff, so that you can enjoy the environment more comfortably. I went there sight unseen and I wasn't disappointed. When I booked, there were only two reviews, but it said the place had just opened, so I went for it.
I booked a room in a 4-girl dorm, but I was alone. I was greeted by Ms. Xu Yan Peng, who took excellent care of me. She speaks very good English and didn't hesitate to give me her number so I could contact her directly if needed, as not everyone in the hostel speaks English. The room included a well-stocked buffet breakfast, and everyone was very friendly.

I don’t get the oustanding rating and here are my reasons.
-even though it’s located around 250m from the entrance of the baoguo temple,nobody we asked seemed to know the place because it’s located in a cul de sac at the end of other buildings. Trip indication is incorrect and apparently never been updated after the owner clarification.
The boss and lady are very friendly and nice but the hotel needs some renovation.
The damaged cooorifor floor are taped and the carpet is the room is obviously well used ,same as the wallpaper.Amendities are enough and WiFi is working.
Breakfast is limited but the worse is the soundproofing being woke at 5h30 by people walking upstairs,and the weird noises of the water or flushing pipes as the doors being closed without consideration.
