"Excellent hotel with a beautiful view. Very friendly staff. Great breakfasts and dinners. I recommend this hotel. The room is spacious. The beds are comfortable. In the morning at sunrise, there are beautiful views of the mountains. By the pool, there's a mini-bar where you can order beer, snacks, cocktails – everything you need. We loved everything. It's close to the city center where all the cafes and restaurants are, and not far from the Nine Arch Bridge. Choose this hotel, you won't regret it."

"Stay away from this hotel! The hotel rooms isn’t what’s pictured on booking sites, the entrance is through a forest on a mountain and through other buildings. The walls is stained, door is leaking, and the room are nasty. The entrance pathway crumbled under me so a nail went through my foot and got several scratches. It is NOT a hotel, not even a bungalow. I would rather sleep with the homeless dogs than stay there one night. We checked out 30 minutes after we checked in. At least the manager was nice enough to give a full refund and drive us to another hotel."

"Overall we are satisfied. The renovated rooms are comfortable and spacious. The beds are great, and breakfast is good (even if the food is sometimes cold). Just be aware that the hotel is still undergoing renovations, so make sure to request a renovated room. We stayed the first night in a non-renovated room: the air conditioning was broken, the fan was noisy and impossible to use at night, the fridge was constantly running, and the safe didn’t work. We asked to change rooms, and they accommodated us the next day. The staff are friendly as well. The hotel is located a little outside Ella, which is actually a plus since the town can be noisy. And of course, the best feature of this place is the incredible view of the valley and Ella Rock! I would definitely go back to Misty Hills if I return to Ella."

"This hotel is basic. No duvet in the room, apparently you have to request one. Nice welcome tea and some local snacks while waiting to check in but beware there are still mosquitoes around despite the cooler temperature. I got bitten twice whilst waiting to check in. I was put on the ground floor with a view of the car park which was disappointing given the incredible views on offer of Ella from the rooms higher up. They have a swimming pool from what I can tell is a bit cold! The omelette at breakfast was good and they found me some green tea when I asked for it. The buffet at dinner was ok and included slices of pizza. Staff were friendly and helpful. All in all I imagine this hotel offers great views but it is way too far out from the centre of Ella so if you plan to go into town in the evening you’re looking at paying around 5,000 rupees for a taxi to take you, wait there for you and bring you back. So unless you’re there for a specific reason I’d stay closer to all the shops and bars in town."

"This hotel is worth staying for the stunning mountain views alone. Otherwise, the rooms are a bit dirty, especially the bathroom, with lots of dead insects on the curtains. The bathroom lacks even basic amenities (soap dish, glass for toothbrushes, etc.). There were mosquitoes in the room upon check-in. The staff didn't seem particularly concerned."

"We had a wonderful stay at Greenland Villa. It is perfectly located right next to the Kithal Ella train station, from which you can directly board the famous train that goes through the nine arch bridge. The property was beautiful, very well equipped with everything we needed including a great kitchen. It was clean, well ventilated, and more importantly it felt like home. The owner took time to decorate it with great taste. On top of that he was such a humble and polite person.Upon arrival he gave us a ride to get our groceries; another day he brought us his homegrown vegetables, which was such a nice gesture. Having said that, there were a couple of issues that needed to be addressed. The WiFi connection was not great, probably because of the location, but we struggled with it. And the breakfast was very carb-heavy, which may work for you but wasn't particularly to our liking. Nonetheless, We would book it again if I ever come back to Ella. We can only recommend Greenland villa highly."

"We had a confirmed booking at “Tea Garden Holiday Inn” in Ella, but on arrival at 7 PM om 20th April, (after informing them in advance), the host /manager refused check-in, saying it’s “not suitable for elderly people.” This was never mentioned during booking, despite us having elderly family members and an infant. We were left stranded at night after a long journey. The host also misled us to another property claiming it was theirs, which turned out to be false and more expensive. Very unprofessional and irresponsible. I would not recommend this place."

"We arrived to celebrate my Dad’s Birthday on 26/07/26. The Birthday welcome was excellent. Our two days at UGA GHIRI felt like gentle escape into a peaceful dream. It was a perfect staycation for a relaxed getaway. It’s a very well maintained cozy Hotel surrounded by the hills beauty and excellent breathing of Ella. Every moment was filled with a friendly smile, calm, warmth and joy. It wasn’t just a stay - it is a feeling we will carry in our hearts for a very long time. Leaving this place was truly the hardest part. We are especially grateful to the whole staff, their team effort, their wonderful care with the welcoming friendly smiles, delicious healthy meals made our stay even more special. "The location was absolutely stunning in the heart of the jungle but only a short walk to the nine arch bridge (you can even see the train passing through the trees during the day). The bird song and jungle noise was so peaceful, the rooms were clean, quality bedding and well thought out little touches in terms of toiletries (even some books on the shelf). The breakfast was delicious and so much food! But most importantly to note Yugesh was fantastic at attending to our needs whether that be to organise our laundry to be sent out and cleaned, making sure we had everything we needed for breakfast or coming with us on the walk to the bridge to get the best spots to film the train crossing, pictures etc. He was very kind, professional and thoughtful, he really made our trip. Another person to note was Nimal, the TukTuk driver who helped us easily get about. Free shuttle to Ella town from the hotel which is great! Anything else at an extra cost. Highly recommend this unique stay."

However, due to the surrounding chaotic development, the roads are narrow and steep, so driving there is thrilling ㅜㅜ.. Since it is still under construction, only the first floor and some facilities are open, and ingredients are not yet fully prepared.. The staff try to be friendly, but charging that price in the current state is excessive."

"The place is absolutely beautiful. The rooms are great and nicely designed with a great view on the mountains. It was great too stay there for 2 nights with a very pleasant staff! They helped us to get Tuktuk (very nice driver) so that we could hike in the mountains. Would absolutely recommend to go there instead of Ella city center (which is much more touristy and busy) if you want to enjoy a chic and resting stay!"

The city is around 15 mins from the resort and it's very lively with plenty of options for food and having an evening stroll. Transportation with tuk tuk is available at ease. "This hotel is located some 15km from Ella town centre. Fine if you have transportation, awesome if you enjoy the calls of Mother Nature. No so, if the above two points don't apply to you. Other than the above, the staff are friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful. They took pains to explain where every facility was located in the hotel. As for the rooms, you get a large room. Yes, it's a rather large room, clean, comfortable and a lovely balcony to sit and relax. As the hotel is located on a hill, the weather is cooler than most areas in the Ella region, truly a great place to relax and unwind. The negative side is that the walls and floors are transparent. So if you have noisy neighbours like we had, their incessant talking, dragging of furniture and even footsteps kept us awake till the early hours of the morning. For this, this was a downside. Surely, the highlight of our stay is the restaurant food. Be it an Ala carte mea; order, or the buffet breakfast, the food is truly excellent. I'd say one of the best meals in the entire 9-day of our stay in Sri Lanka"

"We booked this hotel well in advance with an advance payment, which based on the request of the hotel. During the advance payment, inquired about the hotel access road for the vehicles, was possible and confirmed by the hotel itself. On the arrival day (16th April) we turned from the main road to the hotel access road and the drive possibility was limited to certain distance from the main road. We tried our best to take our vehicle up to the hotel even with the help of people were in around, was not possible due to the condition of the road. We contacted the hotel and reported this difficulty and unfortunately the option got from the hotel was, somehow take the vehicle up to the hotel. Since it is almost night, no body was willing to assist us in around, unless we walk up to the hotel with all the luggages and belongings. We made our last effort for some time to move our vehicle up to the hotel and we had to give up all our efforts finally. Since the hotel did not take any further assistance towards us, we had to to look for an alternative option to spend the night. We asked for the possibility of getting a shuttle service, was just ignored. Sad part is, still we did not get any favourable assistance or courtesy call to check our condition and this made us a really disappointment with the hotel. We never received such a negative behaviour and negative attitude from any of the hospitality properties. There is no refund for our advance payment even."
