We chose Rhinoceros for a 2 night stay in Rome prior to beginning a Mediterranean cruise. We could not have made a better choice! Nestled against Palatine Hill near the Circus Maximus, this was a quiet oasis, with several ancient monuments just steps away, and a close scenic walk across the bridge to the Travestere neighborhood for numerous bar and restaurant options. Our ultra- modern suite was luxurious and the service impeccable and friendly. We especially enjoyed quiet continental breakfasts in our room, with a Nespresso machine, grapefruit and fresh basket of pastries/bread with jam and lovely views overlooking an ancient arch. For those wishing to cook, the clever hideaway kitchen was well equipped. The rooftop bar afforded beautiful views of Rome and refreshing cocktails. We took a short taxi ride to Colosseum area, but could have walked, and later walked back from the Pantheon, a bit more of a walk.

The location is perfect, near the Termini station which connects you everywhere you go. Termini station is not exactly safe as there are many homeless people camping and roaming around. We felt that the hotel was safe as the doors were locked and security guard is on duty to service the guests.

Great location. Any major attraction can be reached within 20 minutes. Spacious room with a very comfortable mattress. Very helpful staff both at the reception and during room service. We initially had a corner room, but found it a little noisy for us. At the reception they changed it without any problems for another one. There are several good restaurants nearby. Reception's recommendations were also excellent. The hotel does not have its own parking lot, but in the same building on the base floor there is a garage (not the hotel), which can be accessed without entering the ZTL zone. Price 35 euros per day. But opposite the garage there is a paid city parking lot, where you can also leave your car. To get into the hotel from a garage or parking lot, you need to call from downstairs so that a receptionist will come and open the door to the elevator hall. We liked the breakfast. There was a bit of a lack of variety in egg dishes, but there was plenty of other stuff. I think the main disadvantage is the paid gym and spa. And if the spa is somehow explainable, then the gym is usually free for hotel guests. The price for visiting guests is 9 euros. Restaurant is fine. You get the voucher with 20% discount when check-in so the price becomes reasonable. Overall we enjoyed our time at the hotel and will return here again. I think the main disadvantage is the paid gym and spa. And if the spa is somehow explainable, then the gym is usually free for hotel guests. The price for visiting guests is 9 euros. We enjoyed our time at the hotel and will return here again.

We stayed in room 415. It would be nice to think this room was a one off, but I suspect not. Don't book if you're a fully grown adult, you'll never get in the shower. If you do get in, bring a spare shower gel to hold the shower head still or it will swing randomly in all directions. The bed is the most uncomfortable ever experienced, and I travel a lot. Cleanliness, you can judge for yourself from the condition of the fridge (inside and out) and the chair provided. I would be embarrassed to rent out rooms like this - there's budget and then theres the Aphrodite!

The hotel is very modern, lovely sized room and really comfy bed! You get a hairdryer in the room (ladies!) and there is a mini fridge to leave your own drinks. Aircon worked perfectly and some fancy lighting above the bed! Really close to the 160 bus stop that takes you to the centre of Rome for €1.50 (pre pay on the app!) and also some lovely restaurants and cafes for food. Short walk from the 716 bus to take you to Rome Termini. Lovely staff- although confusing when one member let us have water complimentary and another charged for it. Only improvements would be to have tea coffee in the room for in a morning, and also don’t expect the Beth room to be super clean- in need of a little TLC.

La posizione è molto centrale ma non è agevole muoversi perché la fermata della metro è a 1.500 metri e a piedi si raggiunge in 22 minuti (google maps). La struttura è in un palazzetto d'epoca con un ampio parcheggio che costa 10 euro a notte, in linea con i costi dei parcheggi nella zona. La struttura sarebbe anche gradevole se non fosse ridotta molto male, c'è bisogno di una totale e profonda ristrutturazione. Il personale è molto gentile e disponibile ma un po' disorganizzato, se fai una richiesta ad una persona non è detto che venga riportata a chi viene a sostituirla, creando dei malintesi. La camera doppia era piuttosto piccola, numerosi gli urti contro gli spigoli dei tavolini, i mobili sono vecchi e rovinati, l'aria condizionata funziona bene, il televisore è piccolissimo e non riceve che pochi canali, esteri, nessuno è venuto a risintonizzarla. Il frigobar, vuoto, è praticamente inutile a causa della temperatura interna quasi uguale a quella ambiente, un problema per me che dovevo conservare un medicinale. Wi-fi gratuito e protetto da password ma piuttosto lento, problemi con lo streaming. La cosa peggiore è l'uso esteso di moquette, vecchia e macchiata, davvero inaccettabile... sarà che io odio la moquette negli alberghi. La camera, che affacciava sul retro era silenziosa ma aveva i tendaggi parzialmente non funzionante. Non è stato possibile sistemarla da parte della manutenzione. Il bagno sarebbe anche accettabile se non fosse, come in tutto, necessaria una modernizzazione, mancano le salviette di carta e sono scarsi i saponi di cortesia. La camera è stata pulita a giorni alterni nella settimana di soggiorno, la biancheria cambiata una volta, gli asciugamani due volte. Per il soggiorno, non previsto, di una seconda persona sono stati richiesti 20 euro a notte, più 6 euro di tassa di soggiorno, più 10 euro per la colazione. Ok per la tassa, non dipende da loro, ok per i 10 euro per la colazione, ma 20 euro a notte per una camera già doppia ed un cambio di asciugamani fatto 2 volte, 120 euro mi sembrano francamente una esagerazione, soprattutto quando nella grande maggioranza degli hotel che frequento anche una dozzina di volte l'anno per una media di una sessantina di notti, in genere la seconda persona soggiorna senza pagare degli extra! Insomma alla fine ho pagato, oltre alla camera doppia uso singola per sei notti dal costo di 750 euro più 36 euro di tassa di soggiorno, altri 216 euro tra secondo ospite, parcheggio e tassa di soggiorno, per un totale di 1.002 euro e cioè 167 euro a notte, un po' esagerati viste le condizioni in cui si trova la struttura attualmente.

Che dire, si percepisce la tranquillità del contesto, anche grazie alla grande disponibilità e accoglienza delle Sorelle. Colazione buona. It was pretty good stay overall. It was a decent sized standard sized room. The bathroom was a really good size as well. What impressed me the most was how immaculately clean it was from the minute I checked in thru the duration of the stay. They cleaned the room daily and left a bottle of water when I first checked in which was nice. The staff is nice and friendly for the most part. The breakfast was also pretty good in my opinion. It’s quite varied and a great selection. As far as location, it’s not terrible but not great. It’s a 13 min walk to the metro. However there is a bus around the corner about 2 blocks where it takes 20-30 min into center of town with all major sites. If you’re looking for a stay away from the tourist sites and peaceful then this place is perfect. There are some restaurants and bars in the area that are good. The only thing I was disappointed in was with an issue I was having with a restaurant reservation. I asked the staff to see if they could contact the restaurant to double check on a reservation I made prior. The date was not available on the email I sent. It seemed like the staff was bothered by the request. Just for the record I normally handle these issues myself but it would be a costly call with my phone plan. And I figured since on the website they do state that they help with these types of things I didn’t think it was such a bothersome request. But that was the feeling I was getting back from them. Also I tried making the call from the room but they don’t allow any local calls. Other than that I would not let that minor issue overshadow my stay. I enjoyed the hotel overall.

The neighborhood is quiet, a short walk from San Giovanni subway station and has plenty of nice restaurants and cafes in close proximity. The rooms are on the small side but you get what you pay for. The breakfast for 6 euros is superb value too.

St John Villa was a lovely bed & breakfast, within a 25 minute walk of the Colosseum and less than a 10 minute walk to San Giovanni metro. Vincenzo was a great host. There was a good selection for breakfast and our room was extremely clean and inviting. Our twin room had the added bonus of a lovely terrace & kitchenette too, with a fridge. If we are lucky enough to travel to Rome again, we will definitely book in at St John Villa again.
