Visas, Entry Rules and Transit for Malaysian Travellers🛂

Good news for Malaysians travelling to China! 🎉 You do not need to apply for a tourist visa for short visits to mainland China if you hold a valid Malaysian ordinary passport. The China–Malaysia mutual visa exemption agreement took effect on 17 July 2025, allowing Malaysians to enter China visa-free for tourism, business, family visits, exchange visits, and transit purposes.

How long can Malaysians stay in China without a visa?

Malaysian travellers can stay:

Up to 30 days per entry
✅ Maximum cumulative stay of 90 days within any 180-day period

Entry requirements for Malaysians 🇲🇾➡️🇨🇳

Even though no visa is required, you should prepare:

✅ Malaysian passport valid for travel
✅ Return/onward flight ticket (recommended)
✅ Hotel booking details (recommended)
✅ Proof of travel purpose if requested by immigration officers

Your passport should be in good condition, and your personal details must match your flight booking.

Do Malaysians need to fill in an arrival card?

Yes. Travellers should check the latest China immigration requirements before departure, including any digital arrival declaration procedures that may apply at the time of travel.

What about transit through China?

For Malaysians transiting through China:

  • Short transit stays may fall under China’s transit policies depending on the airport, route, nationality, and onward destination.
  • If you are simply travelling Malaysia → Shanghai → another country, check whether you qualify for a transit exemption.
  • If Shanghai is your final destination (for example, a Shanghai–Beijing holiday), you enter China under the normal visa-free entry arrangement.

Important tips for Malaysian travellers 💡

Although China travel is now much easier, remember:

📌 Visa-free does not mean unlimited stay
📌 Overstaying the allowed period can result in penalties
📌 Work, study, or long-term residence usually requires the appropriate visa or permit
📌 Always check the latest announcements before departure, as entry rules can change

For a Shanghai to Beijing trip, Malaysians can now enjoy a much simpler travel experience — no visa application, no embassy visit, and more time to focus on planning your food, sightseeing, and high-speed rail journey. 🚄🍵

The most beautiful European-style hotel in Beijing! The lobby, restaurant, and rooms are all very spacious. The service is exceptional; all staff members are respectful, friendly, and attentive to guests. The breakfast is abundant with main courses rotating daily. Although it's an 18-year-old building, it's very well-maintained, and the facilities are comprehensive with a strong vintage feel. I stayed in room 507, which was very quiet. The housekeeping staff are well-presented, professional, and do an excellent job cleaning! Highly commendable.

Five-star review! I stayed at the Sofitel Beijing Central for four consecutive days, and my overall experience was extremely satisfying. The location is excellent, close to Jianguomen subway station, making it very convenient to get to Wangfujing, Tiananmen Square, and the National Museum. The room was clean and tidy, the bedding was comfortable, and the soundproofing was good, so I rested very well. The front desk staff were warm and polite, and their service was prompt and responsive; communication was smooth whenever I had a request. The hotel environment is quiet and elegant, and the facilities are well-maintained. Traveling with children, staying here made getting around and sightseeing worry-free and convenient. It's a great choice for exploring urban Beijing, especially since the young lady at the Chance hotel front desk upgraded our room for free and gave us a breakfast voucher for one adult and two children for one day, considering our late arrival. I would definitely consider staying here again on my next visit to Beijing – it truly exceeded my expectations!

Five stars, highly recommend this hotel on Xiaoyun Road! It was the perfect choice for my business trip. The location is unbeatable. It's right next to the Lufthansa business district and embassy area, and just a short walk to Sanyuanqiao subway station. Getting to Sanlitun and Liangma Bridge takes about ten minutes by taxi. The entire street is packed with Japanese, Korean, and BBQ restaurants, making it super convenient to grab a bite after work. Whether it's for business dinners or casual meals, you'll have plenty of options. The room was exceptionally clean, with no dust or odd smells in the corners. The bathroom had a great wet/dry separation, and the hot water came on quickly and consistently. The mattress was just right—not too soft, not too firm—and the soundproofing was excellent. I barely heard any traffic noise from the road, which meant I could get a really good night's sleep after a busy day. The room's Wi-Fi was stable, and streaming or working on presentations was seamless. The desk was also a good size, perfect for handling urgent work without any hassle. The front desk staff, Blair and Yonah, were efficient and professional. Check-in and check-out were quick, and they were always polite and patient. Room service was prompt and the attention to detail was impressive. Overall, this hotel is ideal for short business trips, temporary stays for visa applications, or even a quick getaway. I'll definitely be staying here again next time I'm in the Xiaoyun Road area.

I had an exceptional stay at this hotel in Beijing. From the moment I arrived, the staff provided warm, professional, and attentive service that made me feel truly welcome. The room was spacious, spotless, and beautifully designed, with comfortable bedding and stunning views of the city. The hotel’s facilities were outstanding, especially the breakfast selection, which offered a wide variety of delicious local and international dishes. The location was also perfect, making it easy to explore Beijing’s major attractions while still enjoying a peaceful and luxurious environment. What impressed me the most was the attention to detail and the genuine hospitality shown by every member of the team. They went above and beyond to ensure my stay was comfortable and memorable. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Beijing for business or leisure. It truly delivers a five-star experience in every aspect, and I look forward to staying here again in the future.

The room was clean and well-organized, though not large. The storage spaces were thoughtfully designed, and all the amenities were refined and practical. The hairdryer was a new, hair-care quick-dry model, which was excellent. The hotel as a whole beautifully blends traditional Chinese and Japanese cultural elements, creating a grand, refined, and welcoming atmosphere. There's a Lawson convenience store in the office building section of the same complex. The service was incredibly attentive. As soon as my car stopped, staff members were there to open the door and help with luggage. Unlike some hotels that ask guests for positive reviews by name, it felt like this was just their standard service, which made me feel comfortable and at ease. When I was leaving and had trouble finding my way, a lobby staff member personally walked me to the intersection and gave detailed directions and explanations. My three-night stay was extremely satisfying. This hotel truly became our relaxing sanctuary during our trip to Beijing. Thank you for the hotel's warm service. The nearest subway station is about a 10-minute walk at a regular pace. However, I didn't find any escalators or elevators at that specific subway exit, so those with large luggage might want to confirm this beforehand.

Let's start with the positives: Firstly, the location is excellent. Right outside the entrance is Chongwenmen subway station, making it incredibly convenient to reach all the major attractions. This is definitely the hotel's biggest selling point. Secondly, the staff are very service-oriented. Their customer care, from booking to check-out, was impressive, and the front desk was quick to help guests resolve issues during my stay. Now for the areas that need improvement: As it's an older hotel, the facilities are quite basic and dated. The lighting is also on the dim side, especially in the elevators. The rooms show signs of age, with some water stains and black mold visible in the bathroom, and dust accumulation in the corners of the wardrobe door tracks. During this stay, the first room (B213) had a strong odor from the bathroom drain, so with the help of the front desk, I moved to a different room (B559). However, the air conditioning in the second room was not very effective; even at its lowest setting, the room temperature stayed around 27 degrees Celsius, making it feel a bit stuffy in the mornings or at midday. Overall, considering the price, Xinqiao Hotel offers acceptable value for money in the city center. My suggestions for the hotel are: 1. Replace the lighting with brighter white lights to make the place feel less dated. 2. Increase the frequency of maintenance for drainage pipes and the central air conditioning system. 3. Improve the cleanliness of room corners, particularly in the bathrooms.

During my middle school entrance exam, I needed a quiet place to rest during the day. The hotel specifically assigned us to the 12th floor, which was very quiet. The hotel itself was very clean. The staff on our floor, Tang Yan and Liu Yongqiang, were incredibly friendly and responsible. Knowing I was an exam taker, they made sure my room was ready in advance so I could rest peacefully. The view from the window was also quite nice.

The hotel's location is fantastic, right in the New World Department Store building, with Chongmun Station on Subway Line 5 just downstairs. There are numerous large shopping malls nearby, lots of great restaurants, and it's convenient to get anywhere. The room's cleanliness was also very good. I particularly liked their hairdryer; it's very powerful, which is great for people with long hair. The only thing I was unhappy with was their internet 🛜 – it's really bad and often disconnects, especially in the bathroom. As soon as you enter, the Wi-Fi drops. I hope they can switch to a better network provider. Everything else deserves five stars!

Their thoughtful and attentive service made me feel very comfortable. Breakfast was plentiful and the ingredients were fresh. The most pleasant surprise was the hotel offering intangible cultural heritage handicraft experiences. The instructor was very professional and detailed in their explanations, allowing me to immerse myself in the charm of traditional craftsmanship and create a unique travel souvenir with my own hands. It's more than just a place to stay; you can truly experience local culture, and the ambiance is fantastic. Overall, the experience was excellent and I highly recommend it. The apex of Beijing, where the true heart of luxury beats! — A perfect stay at Kerry Hotel Beijing from July 25th-26th If Beijing is a flowing feast, then the Guomao CBD is its most dazzling stage, and Kerry Hotel Beijing sits right in the center of it. During this stay, I truly experienced what it means to “be amidst the bustle, yet privately enjoy luxury.” Arriving on the afternoon of the 25th, from the moment I stepped into the lobby, that grand sense of tranquility isolated me from the noise outside the window. The room was super spacious, and the floor-to-ceiling window offered an unparalleled city skyline view, with the CCTV Headquarters (the 'big trousers') and China Zun tower side-by-side. That feeling of having the imperial capital at your feet instantly made the room rate worthwhile! I must particularly praise the Kerry Club Lounge on the 18th floor! It was truly the highlight of my entire stay! The service from Ms. Lucy, Clara, and Seanna was simply delightful, making me feel incredibly welcome. The lounge's food, whether afternoon tea or evening happy hour, offered such a vast variety that it was hard to choose. The breakfast at 'Jia Pin Restaurant' on the morning of the 26th absolutely won me over—there were 7 ways to prepare eggs alone, plus fresh grapefruit. These kinds of details are truly a huge plus! Although I know this hotel is a representative of the 'old money' opened in 1999, the facilities are incredibly well-maintained. That sense of profound grandeur, refined by the passage of time, is a quality new hotels simply cannot replicate. The gym and heated swimming pool are top-tier for hotels in China, with huge spaces and comprehensive equipment. Even just a swim feels like a luxury. My two-day journey in the heart of luxury left me wanting more. Not only is the location unbeatable, but the service and dining are also exceptional! This is definitely the most 'aristocratic' hotel I've stayed at in Beijing, second to none! ♥️

This was my first time staying at the Park Plaza. We came because my child had an exam at the Academy of Arts and Design's attached high school. When we arrived, I didn't even realize there was a hotel next door. What drew us in was the parking lot we spotted as we drove by, and it was indeed very close to the school. The security guard at the entrance confirmed there was plenty of parking, and we were impressed to find both above-ground and underground spaces. So, we decided to book a room. The price was reasonable, not expensive at all, and the hotel had everything: a restaurant, breakfast, and a gym. Stepping into the lobby, it was bright, and a pleasant aroma filled the air, immediately giving us a holiday vibe and easing our nerves. The young lady at the front desk was incredibly warm and thorough during check-in. She double-checked our late checkout request multiple times to ensure it was fine. Knowing we were there for our child's exam, she even extended our checkout to 3 PM, which was a very rare and thoughtful gesture. Despite many students and parents checking in, it never felt crowded. The elevators were fast, room service was prompt, and the little robot delivering items was adorable and busy. The room itself was spacious and clean. The first night, the hot water in the bathroom wasn't very hot, possibly due to a high number of guests, but the bathtub was very comfortable, and the bedding was cozy. There was a slight creak when turning over, but it was acceptable. Staff were quick to respond to any extra requests. Parking was free after registering at the front desk. Overall, the value for money is good. I recommend it to anyone who needs a place to stay.

I chose Nuo Hotel for my birthday this year, and I was pleasantly surprised when the front desk wished me a happy birthday during check-in. Located in a prime downtown spot, it's convenient for getting anywhere. Downstairs is very lively with restaurants, a food street, and a shopping complex all in one. During weekdays in summer, there were many foreign guests... and quite a few elderly Chinese too. The front desk often had queues for check-in, and there were always people waiting for taxis outside. Business was really good, yet the room offered excellent value for money! Thanks for the free upgrade to a deluxe suite~ It was newly renovated. I was on a business trip and decided to bring my mom along so she could relax and enjoy herself. **Facilities** They offer a table tennis room, a swimming pool, and a gym. No robots for food delivery pick-up though. **Hygiene** Clean. **Environment** The overall environment is good. The old five-star hotel is very well maintained; it doesn't feel old or dated. The room was newly renovated, but the sense of space wasn't huge, and the bathroom was a bit small. **Service** The service attitude was excellent and professional.

This time we were on a family trip, but I feel the hotel is more suited for business travelers. **Facilities:** It's a five-star hotel, decent, not super new but not old either. Breakfast had a good variety. **Hygiene:** Also decent, quite clean. **Environment:** There's a constant fragrance throughout the hotel that I wasn't too fond of, but overall it was okay. It's quite close to Nanjing Road Pedestrian Street and the Bund, which is great for an evening stroll. **Service:** I had originally requested a late check-out until 2 PM upon arrival, but the front desk seemed to have forgotten about it. However, a staff member called to confirm, and I re-explained, so the late check-out was granted.

Traveling with my child for the weekend, I booked the Marriott Hotel in advance through Ctrip. The hotel's location is superb, just a few minutes' walk from Nanjing Road. The facilities are complete, and the room was clean and comfortable. Even though we had an unexpected encounter with a 'white dolphin' (a metaphor for a minor inconvenience or surprise), it didn't affect our mood at all. Gazing at the Oriental Pearl Tower through the rain-streaked window from our room was also a unique experience. The hotel even provided complimentary welcome fruits, small gifts, and other extra surprises, which was incredibly thoughtful. Honestly, most hotel hardware is pretty much on par these days; it's the little details in service that truly leave a lasting impression. All in all, it was a very satisfying stay.

Service: Before checking in, I read many reviews complaining about the check-in staff. I definitely experienced it myself. All the staff avoided eye contact; it was hard to find someone to help with check-in, and everyone seemed busy. There was a young man near the elevator entrance who suggested not standing there. He would just lower his head and walk away when he saw guests; I don't know what purpose it served to have someone standing there. The bellhop at the luggage storage was enthusiastic, but I suggest increasing the refrigerated storage space and training staff. They shouldn't advise guests to carry their refrigerated items with them when checking out, especially on such hot days; it's better to leave them in the air-conditioned hotel. The staff at the entrance who helped with luggage and opened car doors were polite, and their service was appreciated. Some of the hosts at the breakfast restaurant were very warm and friendly. Others were not, and some were only friendly towards Japanese guests. The chefs at the cooking stations were all excellent, and the food was delicious. Facilities: Older hotels always have shortcomings in their hardware. As soon as I exited the elevator on the guest floor, I smelled dust, and there was a musty smell in the room. The shower equipment was old and difficult to use, the washbasin was quite low, and the small magnifying mirror for makeup/removing makeup was broken; either you had to hold it up very high to see your face, or it would fall down and still not work. This can't be changed in the short term, so it needs renovation. During renovations, I suggest not installing mirrors facing the bed again. I slept very poorly at night. Cleanliness: The cleanliness was much better than I expected. There was no dust in the nooks and crannies, which was a pleasant surprise. Noise: The room was very close to the elevator, but surprisingly, there was not much noise, which was acceptable. However, there was a regular rumbling sound, which I suspect was the subway passing by; it was very noticeable. The sound disappeared after the subway stopped at night and reappeared in the morning. Overall, it was not a very pleasant experience, but I've tried it. I won't choose this hotel again.

I highly recommend the Pullman Shanghai Jing An. My stay in the Deluxe King Room was perfect, deserving a full five-star rating. The hotel is located in the heart of Jing An, within walking distance of the metro station, making it incredibly convenient to get to major commercial areas. The room was spacious and elegant, the bed soft and comfortable, and the entire room was spotlessly clean with excellent soundproofing. The front desk service was attentive and efficient, housekeeping was meticulous and thorough, and the breakfast offered a rich variety of delicious options. The overall ambiance is light luxury and grand, making it perfectly suited for business or leisure travelers. I will definitely choose to stay here again on my next visit to Shanghai.

We have booked more nights initially, but our plan was disrupted by the typhoon unfortunately. Kudos to hotel to be willing to accommodate to our booking twice. Room is too dim for my liking, but housekeeping staff is helpful to my request. Convenient location that our favourite 莱莱小笼包 and 双喜甜品 is just a corner away. You just need to head down n the whole shopping street is right in front

I was very satisfied with my stay during my business trip. The hotel was quiet with good soundproofing, and the internet was stable, so working was stress-free. Staff members Lily, Diana, and Quain G proactively provided guidance throughout my stay. The lobby was well-managed and orderly, with no queue-jumping or chaos. The guest rooms were neat and clean, and the toiletries were complete. The surrounding transportation was convenient, making it a great value for business travel.

I booked a hotel in Jing'an District for my business trip and really got a feel for the 'Magic City'. **Environment:** It's right next to Taikoo Hui, with the world's largest Starbucks and the LV 'Big Boat' store, plus tons of restaurants – super convenient. If you walk right out of the hotel, you'll find the Natural History Museum with a big lawn, perfect for an evening stroll and enjoying the cool air. **Room:** I was surprised to find such a spacious room, especially being a suite, in the city center. It even had an induction cooktop and a washer-dryer combo, and all the kitchenware! Much more comprehensive facilities than a typical hotel. **Hygiene:** The room was very clean, and the bed was really comfortable. **Breakfast:** Very refined, a mix of Chinese and Western options, felt like an executive lounge. **Service:** The front office staff were excellent. The lobby isn't huge, but there were guests from all over the world, probably all here to visit Shanghai. Great for business travel, I'll definitely come back next time.

The hotel's location is excellent; we could stroll to the Bund every evening to enjoy the view. The breakfast was very rich, and the room was very comfortable. The front desk service was exceptionally good, and the auntie who cleaned on the 8th floor was also very friendly. Overall, the stay experience was great! 👍

We were given a very nice , spacious junior suite with lounge access. Lounge evening canapés had good selection of food and ice cream. Breakfast was very good and the bund centre building is very iconic. It was also an easy straight-line walking distance to the bund. Junior suites, however, do not have bund views. Therefore, travelers looking for a view of the bund might need to book a different room type

Very good hotel, cozy design, great view. The only things I didn’t like that there is no toothbrashes and toothpaste in the room when you arrive, so you have to ask for it. Second is the bottle of water in the room is rediculous small, 2 small bottles, 100 ml each. But the total impression is good.

We booked this eco-friendly hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is very conveniently located: there's a metro station nearby, as well as two shopping centres. The hotel is large, but there was quiet and peaceful. The view from the window was beautiful, even despite the typhoon that was hitting Shanghai these days (our room was on the 12th floor. We chose the hotel because of its location and good breakfasts. The breakfasts were really very delicious and tasty. There was both Chinese and European food. A wide selection of fruits: watermelons, melons, apricots, mangoes, bananas, dragon fruit. There were many different pastries, several types of yogurts, even matcha yogurt. Also, at the exit from the restaurant, there was a Candy Bar with chewy marmalade: you can put the marmalade in a small bag. The room had everything, including a capsule coffee machine, an ironing board, and an iron, which is very convenient. l'd especially like to mention the eco-friendly slippers, which really stand out from the slippers in other hotels: they're very comfortable. The staff was polite and quickly resolved any issues that arise.

Train Station Area Shanghai|2.52km dari pusat bandar
The hotel's location is excellent, close to Shanghai Railway Station in the city center, making it very convenient for getting around. This InterContinental is the one I've stayed at most often in Shanghai, but this time was also the least comfortable experience. The XX21 room assigned to me this time was a type I'd never stayed in before. It was very spacious, neat, and clean, and the bed was comfortable. The only hardware issue was that the round decorative painting behind the desk made a deafening noise in the middle of the night (see video). This didn't happen on the first night, but on the second night, it lasted for about half an hour starting past midnight. I initially thought it was the air conditioning, but even after turning it off, the noise continued. The baffling part was that it only occurred in the dead of night, never during the day… Furthermore, I had terrible neighbors during this stay. On the first afternoon after checking in, I heard thumping noises outside my door, appearing at intervals. Looking through the peephole, I saw that it was the child next door, and the noise was made when the door wasn't fully closed but slammed against something. After some investigation, I figured out it was likely the deadbolt's 'tongue' being extended and hitting the door frame when the door closed (as shown in the last picture). While this noise might be tolerable during the day, it started around midnight on both nights of my stay and continued for over an hour, consistently happening at that specific time. Guest behavior is something the hotel can't control; it's a matter of individual etiquette… I can only say I was unlucky this time, as I've always stayed on the executive floor at this hotel, but this time I wasn't assigned an executive floor room.

The balcony view was amazing; no need to jostle for space at a crowded viewing platform. I just sat comfortably and watched the entire cliffside light show. It was wonderful to escape everyday worries and unwind for a night in this unique 'underground' hotel, 88 meters below ground level. The architectural marvel itself was incredibly impressive, and the overall experience exceeded my expectations – definitely worth a special trip for an overnight stay. A special thanks to Bruce for his attentive service. He was kind, patient, and responded quickly to our requests, handling everything thoughtfully and appropriately. His excellent service truly enhanced our trip to the Deep Pit Hotel, and he deserves high praise!

The hotel's location is excellent, and cleanliness wasn't an issue. However, the facilities had some significant drawbacks. The bathroom door was very problematic; the toilet and shower shared the same glass door, which was extremely difficult to slide and very inconvenient (as shown in the picture). There were too few power outlets, making charging devices a hassle. The light switches weren't clearly marked, and the night light shone directly into your eyes. Regarding service, the younger male front desk staff member was rude and unprofessional. When I checked in, I wasn't the only guest, and he was impatient and impolite with everyone, not using any basic pleasantries. He also didn't inform me about any of the hotel's facilities; I had to find the laundry room myself later. At one point, a hotel call came in to the female staff member opposite him. She wasn't sure about the situation, hung up, and then asked the male staff member, who directly mocked the guest who had called for inquiries – that was completely out of line. He also made a point of pretending to be busy with other things (even though guests could see his screen and he clearly wasn't busy) before grudgingly responding to guest requests. Although the hotel's physical amenities aren't a major issue, I will not be staying here again due to the service attitude. Being next to a university, I'm sure they won't miss one guest.

The Jiayu Hotel is right next to Jiaxuan, essentially two types of accommodations under one brand. Jiayu is more like an apartment-style hotel, which is a great option if you're traveling with children or elderly family members. You can choose a suite with a kitchen, complete with an induction cooktop, range hood, and dishwasher.

The location is unbeatable. It's super convenient – just take the escalator up to the second floor from the Purple Vine Road metro station exit towards MixC, and you'll see the hotel. It would be even better if there was a convenience store nearby. The hotel environment is also excellent, with large floor-to-ceiling windows that provide amazing natural light in the morning. The room itself is very tidy. The only downside is that the hallway decor is a bit peculiar, especially the wallpaper – it actually startled me the first time I stayed here. Overall, it's great value for money, and I'll likely stay here again next year when I come to Shanghai.

I've found a real gem in this modern tower. The hotel occupies floors 15 to 18, and the reception is a 10/10 – the staff are super friendly, they offer coffee, tea, and little pastries, and there's also a very comfortable coworking area. The rooms are like a small studio with a kitchenette: microwave, washing machine, dryer, a full-size fridge, and plenty of closet space. The bed and pillows are extremely comfortable, and the shower… wow! The water pressure is amazing, absolutely wonderful. The door is floor-to-ceiling, so steam from long showers doesn't escape into the rest of the room. The sink area is a bit small, but it's fine for one or two people. Special mention: the magnifying mirror and the Japanese toilet – a real luxury that I really appreciated. We were so comfortable that we ended up extending our stay by 3 more days. The only downside: the metro is about 1 km away, maybe a bit more. But the value for money is so good that what you save on the hotel easily covers a taxi ride. From now on, this will be my go-to place in Shanghai. Highly recommended. I'll definitely be back.
